The final week in the run up to Christmas, what does it look like for you?

I have 3 and a half days work
A meal out
Parcels to collect
About 3 more presents to buy
All presents to wrap
Food shop
Hopefully all done so I can relax at home on Christmas Eve with a film and a nice dinner

I have a funeral to attend ( miles away ) have offered to pick up my nieces children on the way back. One shift left at work, shopping for food and general tidying of the house / garden as we have guests arriving Xmas eve until the 28. Would like to fit in a movie night with the grandchildren too.

Muchtoomuchtodo · 17/12/2023 10:11

I don't even want to think about it.

JenniferJupiterVenusandMars · 17/12/2023 10:26

Both retired, food shopping sorted online, cards and presents done. Having a very quiet Christmas which suits me perfectly, nice food and wine 🙏

HippyChickMama · 17/12/2023 10:30

Working Monday-Thursday, will be cleaning and getting washing done around work. Ds has an appointment on Tuesday that we've been waiting years for. Ds finishes sixth form on Thursday, dd finishes school Friday. Collecting the turkey Wednesday morning, food delivery Friday and then ds and I will pop out to the shops for anything not delivered or substituted badly. I have one present left to collect tomorrow and another two coming in the post so just those to wrap. Will deliver some presents Friday after dd finishes school. The 23rd is always our day to give the house a good clean and then food prep and beds changed Christmas Eve morning. We can then relax Christmas Eve afternoon, maybe a walk to the village pub for a drink before buffet dinner

TheChosenTwo · 17/12/2023 10:36

Working tomorrow then staff party on Tuesday, dh out Wednesday for his Christmas work thing, Thursday we will all be off, prep food for Fridays party, food shop

Dc are in and out all week, youngest finishes school on Wednesday.
might need to go to a couple of shops but will work that out closer to the time.
Saturday will be clearing up after the party and starting the prep for Monday. Sunday much of the same, prep food, clean, wrap, collapse 😂

newyorkinthefall · 17/12/2023 10:39

Off Thursday, going to the hairdressers
Off Sunday and going out for dinner with DP
Working every other day until the 29th

Rainbow1901 · 17/12/2023 10:39

Look after youngest GC Monday and Tuesday, get bus into town to take GC to meet SIL for his haircut on Monday afternoon. On Tuesday morning collect GC from his mum who is at his siblings school (on the PTA) to meet Santa's reindeer before taking him to his Playgroup Xmas Party and see Santa!!
Two other GCs are at ours for breakfast Monday and Wednesday before walking them up to school and then collect after them school and feed them tea and entertain them till ACs pick them up. Then hoping that is it as they are in school till Friday - and I want to chill - much as I love all the GCs.
Tuesday evening - Shopping trip to Iceland to take advantage of 10% OAPs discount and fill freezer with treats and nibbles for Xmas and New Year.
Carol Concert at GCs school church on Wednesday morning before she breaks up that afternoon.
Thursday/Friday - shop somewhere for Gammon Ham - as that is our contribution for Xmas Dinner and maybe final bits for fresh food shop. Much as I love the atmosphere in shops on Xmas Eve - don't think I'll wait till Sunday for final fresh food bits like bread and salad bits. Tend to buy in lots of part-baked bread for Xmas as it's so much nicer.
Off to the Pantomime with GCs and other extended family on Saturday afternoon. Then put out all the Christmas sweets, nuts and treats then chill with a nice glass of Mulled wine and a Xmas movie or two!!
Xmas Eve sort all the presents into bags ready for the car on Xmas Day - we see all the GCs on Xmas morning to give out our presents and then take off for Xmas dinner at DDs ILs.

What the week before Christmas looks like for me:

🫣😳😞😫😱🥃🥳🎄

NoodletheSchnoodle · 17/12/2023 11:54

Working all week, but have booked one day off as annual leave.
DC last day at school is Tuesday.
This week I have to fit in around work:

•4 hour round trip to IVF clinic for a consultation 😫
•Watching Home Home alone with a live orchestra playing the score (excited for this)
•Dinner in an igloo!
•Finalise online food shop & no doubt some last minute top up shops
•Buy MIL & SIL presents
•Got a few returns to do at some shops
•Wrap majority of presents
•Post DH family presents (not seeing them over Christmas)
• Write and deliver cards
•Give the house a proper tidy and clean, every single room is a bomb site and 2 relatives are staying with us from Christmas Eve.

Jellycatspyjamas · 17/12/2023 12:47

I have 3 days work, have a hair appointment on Friday and still have a bit of shopping todo. I am currently doing laundry and cleaning etc so my day/evenings off can be nice and relaxed. Kids finish school on Friday and are with their dad til Sunday so I have time for last minute bits and pieces. Hoping to spend Saturday night relaxing in a clean, organised house before chaos descends on Christmas Eve.

Natsku · 17/12/2023 12:52

I have three more days of school, with a big exam on Wednesday so I am studying in my spare time until then so no time for Christmas preparations. Thursday I'll be home but the children will still be at school and nursery so I will take the opportunity to clean the place. Friday finish any cleaning and make gingerbread house and wrap presents. Saturday prep the foods. Sunday celebrate.

childrensward · 17/12/2023 12:59

WFH Monday
Office Tuesday
WFH Wednesday plus DS Christmas concert at school and getting my nails done
Office Thursday and DS has his Christmas disco at school
WFH Friday and hopefully get an early finish, make the starters for Christmas Day.

Somewhere in all that I need to finish Christmas shopping, buy some wrapping paper and actually wrap some presents.

DH is working until Wednesday then again on Saturday and Sunday so evenings once the kids are in bed will be spent wrapping I think

PurBal · 17/12/2023 13:07

I am on maternity leave. It’s DH 40th birthday so I’m arranging a surprise party on the 23rd. 24th will be a write off because of the party but will take DC to the local nativity on my own.

Izit · 17/12/2023 14:26

I had a lovely morning this morning. Met one of my best friends for breakfast in Soho and a mooch around Fortnum & Masons before it got too rammed.

Working Mon-Wed. Might go for a quick drink on Wed with colleagues but might not. I don’t drink at all, so I’ll sound out whether it’s going to be a messy one before I commit Grin.

Thursday - I’m doing housework and wrapping presents in the evening.

Friday - I’m going for a manicure & pedicure and lunch with my Mum.
Teen DD has invited her boyfriend round for dinner in the evening so I’m making something nice (not sure what yet).

Saturday - no plans yet, but may see some of DH’s relatives in the afternoon.

Christmas Eve - Taking DH & our two teens to the theatre in the West End. They don’t know yet Grin.

Justhereforthechristmasthreads · 17/12/2023 14:34

Working Mon-Thurs, have custody of my kids Weds PM-Sat AM, one finishes 1pm Thurs, after his biannual SEN review, the other noon Friday.
It's payday on Friday (thank fk for that as down to last 25 quid which needs to cover commuting) so might take them out for dinner, if not takeaway and Christmas films as won't see them again til NYE. Saturday afternoon small food shop for Xmas Eve drown sorrows booze but also for tasty food for for me and DP Christmas Day / Boxing Day.

Sharedcupboard · 17/12/2023 16:59

Working until Thursday. Will keep DC off school on Friday. They finish at 12 anyway. We will go for brunch somewhere. Then I am meeting friends in the pub on Friday afternoon.

Saturday is food shopping and a few task such as recycling glass, washing cars etc.

Sunday morning, all hands on deck house clean, out for lunch and a walk. Movies, champagne etc on CE evening.

I am all wrapped bar one gift. That’s assuming I don’t twitch.
