The final week in the run up to Christmas, what does it look like for you?

I have 3 and a half days work
A meal out
Parcels to collect
About 3 more presents to buy
All presents to wrap
Food shop
Hopefully all done so I can relax at home on Christmas Eve with a film and a nice dinner

I'm working until Friday, it's going to be manic so I'm doing last minute.com next weekend.

As long as I have my lists, all will be well 🎄

dressedforcomfort · 17/12/2023 09:23

ithinkthatmaybeimdreaming · 17/12/2023 09:24

I'm mostly retired, so a cruisy week for me. I am working on Wednesday afternoon, otherwise I'm out for lunch on Thursday, breakfast on Friday, and I have two presents to wrap. That's it. I will be spending Christmas day at home alone, so not much to do there.

wejammin · 17/12/2023 09:27

Monday - work from home, manic, school runs
Tuesday - day off, food shop, wrap presents, DC2 and 3 break up
Wednesday - work in office, last day until 3rd Jan, even more manic
Thursday - DH having major leg operation, drop him at hospital 7am, take DCs to see Santa to take their minds off DH in hospital, collect DH in evening
Friday - DC1 breaks up at lunchtime. Make gingerbread houses
Saturday - tidy house
Sunday - take younger DC to ice show and for dinner to try and tire them out, would normally go for a long family walk but can't with DH on crutches for a few weeks.

Kim82 · 17/12/2023 09:28

I’m working from home 4 days this week and in the office on Thursday.

Dc are still at school/college all week too and finish on Friday.

Hairdressers on Tuesday for me.

Friday I will collect our food order from Tesco then in the evening dh and I have dinner and drinks with friends. We will leave early to go to my brother’s house warming party for a couple of hours.

Saturday will be spent cleaning the house and watching Christmas films. Dd19 is working.

We have no plans for Sunday apart from Dd19 working from 3pm - 1am. I’ll probably do the rounds and visit family to hand over Christmas presents around lunchtime.

I do also need to find time to wrap all of the presents at some point as I haven’t done a single one yet.

ChubbyMorticia · 17/12/2023 09:28

Barely controlled chaos here. My youngest daughter has been in a school play, with the last performance tonight. That’s thrown our usual way of doing things off a ledge.

We have Yule on Thursday, and have a few friends expected, and then Santa on the 25th. Adult daughter is seeing her fiancé off (military deployment) next week, so I anticipate her being a bit of a wreck. She and other adult daughter will be here on the 24th, leaving the 25th.

I have everything to wrap, baking to do, a hot chocolate station to prep and wassail to make.

Wheeeee.

I have handed over Christmas dinner to the kids and husband. I’m not planning, shopping or cooking, I don’t care if we eat PBJ and frozen waffles, I want a holiday outside the kitchen 🤣

dudsville · 17/12/2023 09:30

I'm working the full week but I'll go to yoga and pilates and do gym stuff as well. The Christmas shop is booked. My favourite clothing store will start its sale at some point this week. The week after is the one I'm looking forward to most though. I have the time off, will do more gym stuff, see friends and family, eat lots of tasty things. Love this holiday!

Whiskyinajar · 17/12/2023 09:31

Working until Friday. I am totally unprepared for Xmas this year, still have loads of stuff to buy.

DS is 21 this week but isn't a standard 21 yr old having some learning disabilities. We are taking him out to dinner.

Not in the Christmas spirit at all but might be once the extra stuff is bought and wrapped. Perhaps by Saturday I will be there.

Back in work 27th

Ewoklady · 17/12/2023 09:31

Working until Friday& kids still in school until then
-concert for kids school to see
-wait for online orders to arrive and wrap
-lots of work (admin) for my job to sort
-Christmas food shop (won’t be bad as live near decent choice of quiet quiet supermarkets)

drspouse · 17/12/2023 09:31

Monday, WFH, meeting at DS school (third such meeting at which they promise the world and don't deliver).
Tuesday, office, seeing my counsellor, choir.
Weds I have a scan for an ongoing health condition and my DM arrives for a few days. Will do a half day's work I think.
Thurs WFH in the morning while DH takes DM to DS school Christmas fair, DD breaks up at lunchtime, tree decoration, taking DM to the theatre (an hour away).
Friday DM can amuse DD, DS breaks up at lunchtime.

Echobelly · 17/12/2023 09:36

We don't actually celebrate Christmas, but my week looks like

  • 4 days at work - I think Wednesday will be the only day I'm in the office though.
  • Going to an exhibition about fashion with my oldest on Friday afternoon
  • Probably going to supermarket Friday morning so I don't have to go on weekend before Christmas!
  • Actually going clubbing on Friday night 😵
  • Going to a local acrobatic circus on Saturday afternoon with youngest - it's the first time we've ever had a circus set up in our local park, have lived here for 16+ years.
  • Oldest and I have volunteered to sing with a group of early music enthusiasts who have a spot under the Trafalgar Square Christmas tree on Christmas Eve
Hibernatalie · 17/12/2023 09:37

I finished on Friday, kids finish on Tuesday. Monday and Tuesday I will be doing a bit of work at home, housework and wrapping the last two presents.
Wednesday I'm not sure, but probably go and visit my parents with the kids. Also bake biscuits for Santa.
Thursday afternoon we are driving to Stratford upon Avon to have a browse and then to see a light trail. Staying in a hotel over night.
Friday, driving back home via local shopping centre to see the Grinch.
Saturday I am collecting a food order, then getting a food delivery. We will bake if we didn't end up doing so on Wednesday. General sort out indoors, fridge jenga.
Sunday we are seeing a panto and looking at the lights. Christmas Eve traditions at home in the evening.

WillowTit · 17/12/2023 09:40

Cluelessat33 · 17/12/2023 09:43

Down to Cornwall tomorrow until Tuesday to see some Christmas lights with my daughter, seeing my friend with newborn twins on Wednesday. Driving to Shoprshire to see friends also with twins on Thursday, coming home late Friday. Pack car head to my sisters in Weston Super mare on Saturday morning, which is where I'll stay until after Christmas. Main family meet up done yesterday, so most of my Christmas prep has already been done and has gone away with those family members. Just one last minute present to buy and a bit of wrapping for my daughters presents. My daughter and I finished school/work on Friday so we're free now until January.

BernardsarenotalwaysSaints · 17/12/2023 09:47

I work in a school. Was off Friday with a stomach bug, so I'll mainly be trying not to catch anything else this week & hoping dc don't either.

Oldest 2 finish @ 12:30 on Friday, younger 3 are in until 3:20. I've got to marzipan & ice 2 cakes, sort the kitchen a little bit & finish the wrapping. Dh is off Tuesday so is dropping presents & cards off. Then he finishes work until 9/1 on Thursday (mix of annual leave & hours owed mean he's got a lovely long break for the first time ever, really) so he'll do any bits that still need doing & getting the bits of food we get from the farm shop.

Our plan is that next weekend can be quite relaxed with just food prep to be done on Christmas Eve.

mrsed1987 · 17/12/2023 09:49

Working till Friday. I do have Wednesday off so will do final bits then. Got a couple of things to wrap.

Nothing planned for Saturday, probably have a relaxed day.

Xmas eve wi be full of excitement as we are seeing santa in the morning at a local soft play.

StiffyByngsDogBartholomew · 17/12/2023 09:49

sunr111se · 17/12/2023 07:19

Work. We don't break up for Xmas so I'm doing really long shifts every day. Have Xmas day off though. I still have most presents to buy, have to wait for payday.

Sympathies, I'm in the same boat regarding little time off. At least I am on nights on Christmas Eve and Christmas Day so i have the days. I've finished pretty much all the shopping now and am halfway through a long list of food prep which needs to be done by the time I go back to work on Tuesday

Auntieobem · 17/12/2023 09:54

Working until Thursday. Stuff to prepare for a "friendmas" for dd1 on Friday, dd2 Christmas show on Friday night, online shop delivered Saturday. Just the dogs presents to get.

plominoagain · 17/12/2023 09:55

Monday I'm going to work for a red 🤣

hby9628 · 17/12/2023 09:56

My last week in my current job. Starting a new job in Jan.
wrap the last few Xmas presents, food shop, light trail. Kids don't finish school until Friday which feels really late.

MummyInTheNecropolis · 17/12/2023 09:59

Full Christmas dinner and gift exchange at my auntie’s today with extended family. Working Monday to Thursday. Meeting a friend for drinks Monday evening. Work Christmas do Thursday night. Food delivery arriving Friday morning, then last bit of Christmas shopping Friday afternoon, followed by dinner and drinks with a good friend Friday night. DD is working Christmas Eve so I’ll have the house to myself during the day, will do all the wrapping and clean the house, then prepare a buffet for the evening when my mum arrives and DD gets home. Couple of DD’s friends will pop in for food and to exchange gifts in the evening, while my mum and I make the stuffing for Christmas Day. Then off to my sister’s for Christmas Day with her family and in-laws plus a few from our side. Busy but exciting!

This thread has made me feel so much better about how much I still have to do, it seems small in comparison to some of you!

5 school days (2 of which are party days so outfits etc to organise).
2 hobby Christmas parties after school.
Food shopping on Saturday morning.
Pick up Christmas meats.
Pick up Christmas deserts.
Wrap presents.
Drop off parcels.
Pick up parcels.
Help DS prepare for school talent show act.
2 church services.
Help my mum with her cleaning as she struggles to do it herself.
Christmas pantomime today.
Drop and pick up eldest at work each day as they have taken on extra shifts after finishing college for Christmas.
Still need to put up external Christmas lights.
