Ds3 asked for toy that doesn't exist

My DS3 loves the show Giant Jack on Netflix and has asked Santa for a Giant Jack toy for Christmas. I have searched everywhere and bar a 6in Teddy that costs £79.99 plus postage from America (that won't get here on time now) they don't exist. I'd hoped when he asked at the beginning of December he'd forget about it but everyday he says he can't wait for his Giant Jack toy. I don't understand why they don't make merchandise for this and have tried to put it to the back of my mind but I feel so sad for him that he's not going to get what he wants for Christmas and this is the first time he's really understood Christmas and Santa etc - November birthday so had just turned 2 last year. I've managed to get a small book from Amazon but if anyone has any good ideas of how I could make or come across a Giant Jack toy (called trash truck in America) I would be so appreciative, otherwise please tell me I haven't ruined Christmas for him already at only 3 Sad

Really!!!!
hes 3 ffs!!

Yes, 3. Not 13 or 30. Although I'd still do my damnedest to give my dc what they'd asked for if it was within my power and budget, even at those ages.

Coal for your dc again this year @Bertiesmum3 ?

Boomboom22 · 15/12/2023 22:13

The fisherprice one is good. As is your idea op. The printable transfers sound great.
I've bought 2 presents and the sticking fillers so far 🤪

Zippedydoodahday · 15/12/2023 22:23

The Etay toy could easily come in time depending on what shipping method they use. I'd ask.

Also you need to come back and show us your homemade toy.

I love this. Hope Santa delivers 🤞
My son at the age of 4 was really in to the Musical Oliver!
All he wanted for Christmas was a Lego Workhouse. That was a fun challenge!

I am laughing a lot at “Lego workhouse” .. !! Brilliant.

No, but if they asked for something that I wasn’t able to get they’d be told NO! You can’t have it, you’ll have to have something else instead!!!

Gently? Or with SHOUTY CAPITALS and Lots Of Exclamation Marks ⁉️‼️

AlltheFs · 16/12/2023 17:56

Poor Bertie. Sounds like he lives a joyless life with his shouty parent.

Imagine being proud of not putting any effort into your parenting.

Making out that sticking eye stickers on to a green bin wagon that took a google and 2 clicks to buy is wildly hard and an unreasonable request is utterly ridiculous.

I imagine your the type that puts in the most minimal effort into gifting in general though. We all know one, you know that leaves shopping til xmas eve, goes to one shop and then says 'they didn't have it' as if it wasn't entirely the result of laziness and lack of care.

cazcaz2 · 17/12/2023 07:15

Ask someone who xan cŕocheþ or knit reasonably well and show them the book- they should be able to make one that can be a stuffed toy.But you have left it a lot late unless theyre quite good & quick at their craft.

cazcaz2 · 17/12/2023 07:15

HurdyGurdy19 · 17/12/2023 07:41

I wanted a particular doll one year. My mum decided it was "too ugly", so chose a different one.

I had a note from Santa on Christmas morning, saying he was very sorry, but it had fallen off the sleigh and got broken, so he hoped the one he left instead would make me just as happy (it did).

You could do the same for your little boy, and either give him an alternative, or if you think you'll be able to source one eventually, say a new one will be delivered soon.

Little People Recycling Truck, Push-Along Musical Toy with Figure for Toddlers and Preschool Kids Ages 1 to 5 Years amzn.eu/d/1Yu8DRJ This toy looks similar and will arrive before Christmas. Not actually trash truck though.

But, it could be called "Trash Truck as a little boy" truck, not grown yet?

I think the FP one looks very similar and is better than nothing. I think he would love it.

GruffaIo · 17/12/2023 08:56

In case this hasn't already been solved and you are adapting something else, I've used Sticker Mule to print decals - you upload the design to their website and they post them. Very good quality decals, quick delivery. Used for an 'urgent' Thomas the Tank Engine project (!).

My kids also love to fall in love with obscure foreign kids shows... its the joys of things like netflix.

My DH is hoping to buy an Ariel from Little Mermaid and pass it off as 'Marina' (red headed green tailed mermaid in a odd french cartoon DD fell in love with) this year.

What annoys me more is that TV shows on Cbeebies can be impossible too find. Like my little girl LOVES colourblocks but they don't make anything. You get the odd numberblock thing, the rare alphablock thing but no colourblock things... even just a teddy of one colour would do.

Something I did a while ago was get one of those 'we print your design' places to make stuff with an image I pulled off google. Its not a teddy but you can get tshirts and bags etc... made.

I know the creator of the Numberblocks etc series. For many many years he was very resistant to the idea of any merchandise at all. Only recently has he allowed a small number of products.

without his consent they can’t make official merch. I don’t have insight into his exact reasons before someone asks.

Many years ago my daughter asked for a talking hen from the return to oz. we ended up writing a letter from santa to say the hens can't come because they have to sit on their eggs all day and all night or their chicks would get cold. we enclosed a few feathers for authenticity and we got away with it.

Word of warning - be careful ordering from the USA, as you have to pay import duty as well.
A few years ago I ordered an £8 poster, and I had to pay around £10 duty to collect it from Post Office . X

Also (and this is not helpful to you!) my DS has also requested a toy that does not exist. It's a Frozen waterplay river to put boats in. Luckily he wants other things too so it won't be disastrous, but I was also surprised at how much this idea has stuck!

You can get lids for boat-shaped sand pots that have canals in. See https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/325627261190?mkcid=16&mkevt=1&mkrid=711-127632-2357-0&ssspo=Hi-7OJNiSVq&sssrc=4429486&ssuid=Ggg0DtJfRDa&var=514651868978&widget_ver=artemis&media=COPY

Or

Would either of these work? https://www.johnlewis.com/aquaplay-lockbox/p2627071?sppc=2dxxmixedfashionnBAU&tmad=c&tmcampid=2&gadsource=1&gclid=CjwKCAiA1fqrBhA1EiwAMU5mmxmfii7gPdcmsPOTGMOlzVBJwdUGRzdS52OsQplXKbyd1ZibFwGMxoCjsoQAvDDBwE&gclsrc=aw.ds

FYI, my Christmas shopping gets done through out the year, so by December everything is all bought, wrapped and ready to distribute 🤣🤣🤣🤣

Ahh that makes sense, your one of those that decides what their kids are having instead of them having the joy of writing to father Christmas in December and getting them what they'd actually like. That figures.

Otherwise known as generic tat.

They’re old enough to know what they want in advance 🤣

Livelifeandloveit · 17/12/2023 21:56

Try Etsy, good luck

cassy16 · 19/12/2023 21:21

You can buy printable vinyl then just cut around your image if you don’t have a cricut machine, and use some tape to pick the image up and place it on to the truck xx

sunshowers01 · 24/12/2023 19:25

For anyone who was following this thread.. thanks so much for all of your help and ideas. One really kind poster even made some cricut stickers but they didn't arrive on time so I improvised with some print outs and PVA glue. Definitely not in anyway professional looking but hopefully DS will like it Xmas Smile

Merry Christmas
