Ds3 asked for toy that doesn't exist

My DS3 loves the show Giant Jack on Netflix and has asked Santa for a Giant Jack toy for Christmas. I have searched everywhere and bar a 6in Teddy that costs £79.99 plus postage from America (that won't get here on time now) they don't exist. I'd hoped when he asked at the beginning of December he'd forget about it but everyday he says he can't wait for his Giant Jack toy. I don't understand why they don't make merchandise for this and have tried to put it to the back of my mind but I feel so sad for him that he's not going to get what he wants for Christmas and this is the first time he's really understood Christmas and Santa etc - November birthday so had just turned 2 last year. I've managed to get a small book from Amazon but if anyone has any good ideas of how I could make or come across a Giant Jack toy (called trash truck in America) I would be so appreciative, otherwise please tell me I haven't ruined Christmas for him already at only 3 Sad

I'm not familiar with the show but m9st things can be created from lego. There is people that will create designs for you for £ or you can find lose templates you can also glue the pieces if confident enough isln design / worried re breaking / mouthing ect. Sorry the age makes it really tricky.

SiliconHeaven · 15/12/2023 10:12

Would a real one do? 😁

I’d love a crack at this!!Amazon sells 7mm hot glue gun sticks in a variety of colours, including bright yellow, so you can mould some little eyebrows and then stick them on (will make his eyebrows 3D). If you want boogly eyes HMU with an address and I will send you a variety of sizes, we have a whole box of them (£2.99 from The Range) This is actually really nice, DS wanted a Captain America shield when he was at nursery and they hadn’t started making them in the UK yet. I did one myself he was absolutely thrilled. He’s 15 and he still has it 🤣 FWIW I think it’s more special when it’s made by a parent, it’s lovely.

Use some sticky backed plastic over the features it's usually available in WH Smith .
I mean the stuff to cover school books in not Sellotape

Laminators are quite cheap so you could print and laminate some characters perhaps?

updownleftrightstart · 15/12/2023 10:24

You could also get one of those make your own photo jigsaw puzzles. Should definitely arrive before Christmas

ilovesushi · 15/12/2023 10:33

Not a clue how to help you with that but DS once wanted a jug that when you pour the water out it plays music. Asked if his friends had one, he'd seen one somewhere, was it in a cartoon, a film? Nope just something he thought up and fancied. It was his number one on his santa list and whenever I asked hoping he'd forgotten, it was all about the jug. In the end after lots and lots of searching and no success, I got a jug from a charity shop and a little stereo system for his room and wrote a note from the elves saying they'd struggled with the mechanics because of the water. I think ten plus years on he still has the jug on display in his room.

He’s 3 years old!!
why are you pacifying him??
Tell him , no he won’t be getting one as A they’re too much money and B you can’t get one!!!

Jeez! Does the magic of Christmas mean nothing to you?!

JoyeuxNarwhal · 15/12/2023 10:41

@sunshowers01 I'm no help whatsoever but I love that you're making dc's wish come true Xmas Smile

I like the Google Maps/tracking idea that another poster had, if you order the one from America. That's a really good work around and I can't see your son being unhappy about that - there'll be lots of distractions on Christmas day anyway.

I can see the future Pixar film now.... will Giant Jack make it in time for Christmas?? 😐😧

AllIsWellish · 15/12/2023 10:57

If you can find someone local who can crochet they'd probably be able to make one

housethatbuiltme · 15/12/2023 11:03

My kids also love to fall in love with obscure foreign kids shows... its the joys of things like netflix.

My DH is hoping to buy an Ariel from Little Mermaid and pass it off as 'Marina' (red headed green tailed mermaid in a odd french cartoon DD fell in love with) this year.

What annoys me more is that TV shows on Cbeebies can be impossible too find. Like my little girl LOVES colourblocks but they don't make anything. You get the odd numberblock thing, the rare alphablock thing but no colourblock things... even just a teddy of one colour would do.

Something I did a while ago was get one of those 'we print your design' places to make stuff with an image I pulled off google. Its not a teddy but you can get tshirts and bags etc... made.

Eyeing up the Etsy blanket now too!!

The Etsy toys look great but they are all from America and I don't think he'd understand if they weren't there on Christmas morning - the cheapest one at £27 has 15 postage and £7.50 tax which works out almost £50 for a second hand toy - which I would definately get if I thought it would be here on time but it's a bit steep for something that might arrive after Christmas.

So many great ideas on this thread - you've really helped a v stressed and guilty mum out

You're a fabulous mum. Love the effort you've gone for him. 🥰

Whatamess12 · 15/12/2023 11:09

Could you get some vinyl stickers with the logo on printed to stick to it?

ConflictofInterest · 15/12/2023 11:20

I've been there, most years my kids come up with something like this. I think at 3 he'll imagine the green truck you've bought is giant jack anyway, I'm sure he'll love it. I've been amazed that when the merchandise finally appears in shops for things they often look nothing like the show and are poorly made, and I end up improvising anyway for something better quality. This year my 5 year old wants Santa to turn her into a cat. Yes a real life one. I'm hoping I've managed expectations enough that she'll enjoy her cat onesie instead!

WidowedMum · 15/12/2023 11:23

My 3yo loves this show too, it’s a bit weird but quite sweet and calm compared to most kids shows. I’d love to see a pic if anyone does make the OP one!

JamieKnows · 15/12/2023 11:23

Just in case you missed it OP, someone upthread offered to make him something!

Also, do you know your bin men well? I know mine would let him ride along the street with them while they do the bins. You could make him a ticket for a real Giant Jack trip if they will. Or just take him to the tip and wait 😅

Because he's three years old? Don't be such a grinch.

ModestMoon · 15/12/2023 11:45

I'd add some googly eyes or something on him. I also would find a local knitting group or facebook marketplace ad and see if anyone local would knit one (you'd have to be willing to pay cost of handmade, of course).

ModestMoon · 15/12/2023 11:47

Also (and this is not helpful to you!) my DS has also requested a toy that does not exist. It's a Frozen waterplay river to put boats in. Luckily he wants other things too so it won't be disastrous, but I was also surprised at how much this idea has stuck!

peonygirl · 15/12/2023 11:58

Would you be able to speak to your local company that is picking up trash and maybe ask if your little one can get into the real truck? That would be an experience in itself. I think I'd try to see if I could arrange something like that and then the toy can arrive later? Sorry, if this is totally out of the box, I don't know the show and cannot evaluate if it is similar or not.

Singleandproud · 15/12/2023 12:02

@ModestMoon This plus some frozen characters instead? I'd get a shower curtain for underneath or waterproof table cloth- possibly frozen themed
