Blow up bed for MIL?

justanothermanicmonday1 · 03/12/2023 21:36

Hi all,

We have invited our MIL to stay over on Christmas night and unfortunately don't have a guest bed.

Can anyone recommend a blow up bed that doesn't deflate, is sturdy and reasonably priced?

Thank you!

Innex double height double/king size are great. Definitely get a good night sleep on one of these. Can be made up either normal fitted sheets etc

We had one like this, it was a good height and fine to sleep on. You don’t say how old your MiL is, but a very low mattress on the floor etc. would be difficult for quite a few older people.

That one looks good.

It is. I sleep on it when DS and family visit, I’ve taken it on holiday for an extra guest and lent it to friends. It’s worth every single penny!
I’m nearly 70 so can’t get up from a lilo on the floor anymore K

Just to say, I would never give up my bed for anyone. I wouldnt want someone else on my mattress.

It does seem strange to invite your MIL to stay over at your house but having no bed for her.

Edited

OP is getting a bed. Thats the point of the thread.

I think thr op has pretty much confirmed she is going to give her the sofa. It was I want her to be comfy unless it inconveniences me or costs me. I’m not sure of the point of the thread.

Ive slept on an airbed at my DSs home when their LO was new and it was fine..I was just happy to be able to get to be around the baby.. didn't matter where I slept.

Btw@70isaLimitNotaTarget where on earth have you found the santa emoji?! All I can find are the leftover Halloween ones...Somehow they aren't as Christmasy as the Santa onesHalloween Confused

How to alienate your MIL in one easy lesson.......

Please don't do it, give her a bed and let someone else have the airbed

We have this from argos. £100 and it’s brill https://www.argos.co.uk/product/6181064

That’s what I use when I go camping and it’s great. Oh and I’m 66 and have dodgy knees but they don’t bother me getting on and off of this mattress.

Do people just like to leave bitchy comments without context?

I have a small baby who is going through a very rough 4 month regression who won't sleep in her cot. Therefore we have to co sleep. So a blow up bed for me won't be safe for the baby. The baby won't settle with DP in the night.

Jesus.

MN is infested with so-much-more-virtuous-than-you types. They're worse than a bad case of bedbugs.

MrsSkylerWhite · 04/12/2023 09:45

You’d be better off with a fold up guest bed from Marketplace.

Helenahandkart · 04/12/2023 10:08

A word of warning about giving her the sofa. Personally I couldn’t sleep on the sofa because of my hips (since the age of 40). If the sofa’s the only option then I would check with her first. And she might be more comfortable with the sofa cushions being put on the floor so that it’s flatter.

IF your MiL is getting older or has the start of arthritis or other mobility issues may I recommend you look at a fishing camp bed. Slightly higher off the ground, slightly wider, more padded and far more sturdy. My eldest DD Got one for when I visit. I could have hugged her as the blow up mattress was painful to sleep on and hard to get up from. Not much more expensive than a good camp bed and will fold up between uses.

Looked at these, thank you for this. They cost less than a "decent" blow up mattress and look comfortable. I bought a top of the range inflatable and took it when I stayed at DSs. (I am mid 60s with arthritis). It was cold, even with a quilt underneath and not very comfortable.
I'll definitely get one of those fishing camp beds for future use. They fold up small enough as well.

YireosDodeAver · 04/12/2023 12:27

I bought a fishing-type camp-bed once and yes it was very comfortable but it really didn't fold up very small at all, it took up most of the boot of the car and was very difficult to pack around so I have stopped using it.

haggisaggis · 04/12/2023 12:52

My dm stayed with us for a few weeks and we do not have a spare bed. I bought a piece of memory foam from Amazon which we cut to fit the sofa to make it more comfortable. She was quite comfy and the sofa was a good height for her to get in and out of.

housethatbuiltme · 04/12/2023 14:55

Yeah no blow up bed will be suitable.

Does she know you expect her to sleep on an air mattress?

Honestly I can't imagine expecting MIL to sleep on an air mattress, sofa or the floor on any other type of mattress.

ChateauDuMont · 04/12/2023 14:56

Blow up bed for MIL?

I read it that you were trying to kill her whilst she slept. 😩

LaBorde · 04/12/2023 14:58

I would happily sleep on sofa if it was me - with a a pillow though

Which makes more sense than many of the posters on here, I sometimes think that I live in a parallel universe 😧

Clearly you didn't read the entire thread.

I CO SLEEP WITH MY 4 month old baby who is fussy and won't settle for DP

I'm not forcing my MIL to stay over. She lives twenty minutes away. She's thrilled to be spending the night and said she'll happily take the sofa!

We have a blowup mattress for emergency guests and it's very comfortable.

GlamGiraffe · 05/12/2023 01:26

I have an inflatable bed from I think the brand is called orlahike. Same size and height as a Normal double bed. Inflates electrically in 3 mins. It was actually used as my bed for more than 3 months and was incredibly comfortable. Mattress feels a bit chilly so I just put another cover under the sheet.

You can get really excellent inflatables that people don't even realise aren't real beds and have the great advantage of being full height. So definitely not to be dismissed as an idea.

i agree, the bed I use in USA is as comfortable as my pocket sprung mattress at home. I didn’t actually realise it was inflatable the first time I used it and it was covered with sheets and a huge duvet.
On my second visit the room was empty and I asked what’s happened to the bed and son produced it from a cupboard and inflated it.
