So many Christmas Trees popping up on FB already. I've had another 4 friends today 🤦‍♀️ I mean each to their own, but it's still November. When did Xmas start being a 2 month year of decorations? I'm fed up of seeing captions, 'It's beginning to look like Christmas'. Sucking the joy out of it. I'm not a Grinch, honest lol 😆

I would usually agree we’ve always decorated in December but since my DS has started school this year we’ve just totally lost all our December weekends to kids parties (including his mid December), school and club fairs/plays/performances etc…. So we’ve put ours up this weekend.

If it didn’t go up today it wasn’t going up at all! I don’t mind to be honest as it spreads the overwhelm out for little kids - maybe my friends are grinch’s as now you’ve mentioned it I’ve not seen many trees yet!

(Although if it makes you feel better I haven’t instagrammed it)

I've put all our decorations and trees up and dont find it too early as it cheers the house up and makes it cosy on the dark cold nights. Theres many reasons why people put trees up earlier than december and it's an individual choice. For me personally xmas is not just one day on the 25th but a build up of december events and catching up with friends/ family and doing different xmassy things. This will be the first xmas without my mum this year and rather than dreading xmas I'm embracing it which is partly why I've decorated now

mumstheword1982 · 26/11/2023 19:11

We have always done the 1st weekend in December, (next weekend) but now we have 2 parties, cross country, football, dancing lessons and a night time event then..so we've done it this weekend.

GettingOldWithoutStyle · 26/11/2023 19:13

Ours went up this weekend. Kids have their school Christmas fayre on Friday (and advent of course), village fayre on Saturday. It would feel wierd doing all that with no tree up. Kids have had a great weekend so no regrets here 😄

Soccermumamir · 26/11/2023 19:16

Yeah we have a lot parties, fairs etc coming up. But mine is staying firmly in the cupboard and when I get chance it will go up at some point in December lol 😆

Sorry to hear about your mum 😔 Lost my dad a few years ago. Probably why I prefer Boxing Day to Xmas Day itself.

It's always happened this early. There have been threads on it for the 20yrs I've been on MN. I linked to dozens recently to illustrate the point. I think what changes is how you feel about it. Sometimes you're too busy to notice or relaxed about it because you're in a good place. Sometimes it's the last straw and you are out of sorts or done with Christmas. My cousin used to love it and delighted in the November tree's up posts. She then lost her Dad unexpectedly on Christmas Day and it breaks her heart every November.

LookingForABreak · 26/11/2023 19:23

I love Christmas but I hate how it's now Christmas Season as soon as Hallowe'en is over. It's almost 2 months of non-stop adverts about Christmas, newspaper articles about Christmas, etc. It'd feel much more special if this didn't start till December. I get Christmas Fatigue and by the time it's actually the Big Day I'm just glad it's over for another year.

Derb · 26/11/2023 19:23

I don't get why it bothers others so much. We put ours up weekend before last as my kids were really excited and asked me to. They absolutely love seeing the decorations and it's made us all happy.

I didn't put pics in social media and no one would know unless they visited us or walk by the house. I had a friend scoff when I told her and I replied, 'it doesn't effect you at all, why are you so bothered?'

Each to their own I say!

70isaLimitNotaTarget · 26/11/2023 19:29

We've always done our main decorating 10-14 days before , over a weekend .
DS Birthday is December so waited till after that .
Dec 1st though sees the Christmas LooRoll , shower curtain, towels, doormat and oilcloth Xmas Grin . Already got the Christmas straws and coasters out .

Our cats will happily demolish a tree so we decorate the bannister and the dividing arch (squared arch ) with garland and lights

There's a house near us that is already in fullblown Christmas Mode . Every year I drive past in the dark a few times , it is an eye opening wonder !

ShortColdandGrey · 26/11/2023 19:32

Ours went up today, and I don't care if anyone thinks it is too early. December is busy, and this was one of the few days we have free.

EveWinter · 26/11/2023 19:36

I think you said it in your OP, each to their own. Live your own Christmas not someone else's.

teaandtoastwithmarmite · 26/11/2023 20:11

I'm putting it up next weekend. The neighbours is up already but it doesn't bother me. It's ppl who post it on fb with a caption of I don't care keep your opinions to yourself. I have got better things to do than comment Irene honestly 😜

mondaytosunday · 26/11/2023 20:14

No - maybe my friends are like me, in fact I'm probably the earliest putting decs up first weekend in December.
And I'm just getting in to it - have wreath making workshop booked on the 1st.
I do confess I've got the car radio tuned to Heart Xmas for the last week...

UnderstatedElegance · 26/11/2023 20:48

I hate the Christmas early thing too. I know other people putting their tree up early doesn't affect me, but it's still my petty rage. To be fair though, I don't know anyone who has put their tree up yet. Our house is still cosy with lovely blankets and candle light/fire.

Yettisrus2 · 26/11/2023 21:52

I'm a bit of a bah humbug where Christmas is concerned but need to make it happy again.

Every year I say I won't get a tree and get a tree as I take my mum to get their tree and end up getting in the festive spirit. I put it up around the 10th (although this year that weekend I'm at the panto so may do it on the Friday) and take it down on Boxing Day, always have the slot at the tip booked for the 27th. Two weeks is enough for me.

Seeleyboo · 26/11/2023 22:03

It's a miserable world we live in, so the earlier and longer we can enjoy some sparkle, the better. I put mine up at the beginning of November and will keep them up until the end of January.

Do you know I think that's what it is. Even when the kids go back to school in September, the Christmas aisles start with chocolates and food in supermarkets. Then as soon as Halloween is over, Christmas Ads, decorations and music everywhere 🤦‍♀️ I'm burnt out by it all by the end of November. It's rammed down everyone's throat now from September. I honestly don't remember it being that way when I was a kid. Think it all started after Bonfire Night, which was early but okay.

Each to their own, put your tree up now if you want, wait until December if you want.

Why would someone else’s tree upset you though?

Live and let live. No need to suck the joy from others because you have your own reasons for not really liking Christmas.

sandgrown · 27/11/2023 06:26

I think it’s too early but each to their own. I get more annoyed with people who rip everything down on Boxing Day ,rather than waiting until 12th night, because they are fed up of it. It’s nice to have that brightness after the main festivities are over.

43ontherocksporfavor · 27/11/2023 06:28

Totally agree op. I get cosy with candles .
Had to switch Chris Evans off last week as he had started Christmas music! Dec 1 st is soon enough.

SabrinaThwaite · 27/11/2023 06:30

Now that the kids are older, Christmas Day itself is less of a big thing, and I’ve come to enjoy the whole build up to Christmas a lot more. Even DH, who is a total bah humbug, joins in a bit.

Still put the tree up in December and it’s still a Christmas tradition that the cat has to climb it and pull it over at least once before she remembers that happens every time (she’s not the smartest of cats).

43ontherocksporfavor · 27/11/2023 06:31

Take it down on Boxing Day???? That’s Christmas. The world’s gone mad I tell ye!

LLInADaze · 27/11/2023 06:33

I can never understand why some people get worked up over this.
