What do you do with your chocolates?

Maybe it's just us, but each year we buy tubs of wrapped chocolates, like Quality Street or Roses - or something a bit nicer Grin

I never know what to do with them. I want to put them out around the house so everyone can just grab what they want but I hate having the plastic tubs lying about.

Does anyone have any inventive ideas for putting out chocolates in a decorative way?

I did think of a large glass jar, like a biscotti jar. I am just worried it might be a bit heavy?

Look in charity shops for old fashioned china dessert bowls or glass dishes

AdoraBell · 18/11/2023 22:31

Shallow bowls either glass or china.

CheersToMe · 18/11/2023 22:38

I'll reuse our personalised QS tin as usual but I won't be filling it with QS. I could just about tolerate the crappy chocolates but without the shiny wrappers they are just sad and ugly.

caringcarer · 18/11/2023 22:42

I put mine in cut glass bowls that used to be my Mum's. She used to always put them in these 2 cut glass bowls.

WRT After Eights, I have one of these beauties. Passed down from my late DDad, it makes an appearance every year! I am almost certain it came from the Argos catalogue on the very early Eighties.

This one is on eBay but it's very similar to the two I kept after my Mum died.

^. This. Chocolate MUST be kept in the fridge. It is the law.

Chocolate in the fridge is an abomination

Nonplusultra · 19/11/2023 09:43

We got a personalised QS tin a few years back and fill that. One tub looks pathetic in there so I put in a mix, and QS features less and less.

I’m more curious about how you avoid having wrappers stuffed down the couch.

DarkRainyNovember · 19/11/2023 18:33

!!! @RobertaFirmino that is absolutely glorious!!!

Xmas Grin I;ll check back for answers..though here they;re just as likely to get stuffed into pockets and I'm reminding everyone 'check before you put your clothes in the wash' but I'll always find the odd few ..

oh dear must be young! candy dishes have been around for a veeery long time.merry christmas

Lilibert456 · 19/11/2023 20:05

Glass bowls dotted around. I could put them in a bucket. My.lot wouldn't notice. 😀

DiscoBeat · 19/11/2023 20:11

At Christmas and Halloween all the wrapped sweets like those go in my big crystal trifle bowl. I try to avoid any sold in big plastic tubs - such a waste, considering we all have bowls to put them in.

quivers · 16/11/2023 21:32

I've always put Quality Street in a glass trifle bowl because they looked so nice and festive, but they've changed the wrappers and they look boring and shit unattractive now, so I won't buy any this year.

@quivers couldn’t agree more!! NOTHING says Christmas to me like that gleaming bowl of bright multicoloured sweets in a cut glass bowl! They’ve ruined it! Crappy shit paper!! I’m way more upset about this than I should be 😂

Mejustme3 · 20/11/2023 00:13

I just put them into bowls …they go very quickly and wrappers never find the bin !!

Ellmau · 20/11/2023 00:39

We put them in china bowls/dishes. Apart from the Lindors which go in the fridge so they don't get all melty.

You ca get actual Christmassy ones like this: Spode Christmas Tree Porcelain Rectangular Sandwich Plate, 33cm, White/Green (johnlewis.com)

We have one very like this, but also use various other ones.

sausagedogpookie · 20/11/2023 03:00

Have a look in TKMaxx, they have so many lovely and/or unusual glass and ceramic containers, dishes and bowls, some with lids. (Look in the vase/bowl section before the crockery section though,as the former are usually prettier to leave out on show.)
I’ve found several there,for sweets/chocs and also jewellery/trinket pots for the bathroom/bedroom/hallway.

Ladyj84 · 20/11/2023 03:07

Ah they don't last in our big family we get 3 tubs, massive glass bowl and I can guarantee all will be gone at then end of Christmas day apart from a couple of children can nut ones lol

Brieandbeetroot · 20/11/2023 09:27

We have a glass cake stand with a lid, and a Lindt Christmas Santa goes in the middle and it gets filled/refilled with various goodies over the festive period. It is now referred to as Santa's Jail because he never gets eaten until the end.

Rosscameasdoody · 20/11/2023 10:24

Have a look on Etsy. Lots of reasonably priced things there that’ll do the job.

It certainly is!

Alison Steadman's Beverly, from Abigail's Party, would covet it as well.

😁

User0000009 · 20/11/2023 12:06

Mine go in glass bowls. This year I’ve bought a large glass “fruit” bowl on little legs x

JPMJuliz · 20/11/2023 12:41

I know they are trying to change over to sustainable packaging, but they have really shot themselves in the foot over this. And the colours for the wrappers they have used - bleugh. Brightly-coloured foil is recyclable and they should have chosen that.

Quality Street is not on my shopping list this Christmas.
