Iv gone and put my tree up

Yesterday, I was sitting at home and kids started saying they wanted the Christmas tree up. Normally, it goes up about the 20ish of December- so quite early by most people's standards anyway!

But, I don't know what came over me. It's all up and decorated. Now, I'm sitting here cooking a Sunday roast and booking Christmas activities Grin

Let the Christmas cheer begin!!

Go for it, OP!

I had a sudden realisation last weekend... now that I'm separated from ex DP and living alone, there's nothing actually stopping me from putting the tree up whenever I want Grin

I normally wait until early December but really... who would even know???

I'm not a fan of an early tree. Sorry OP. Obviously everyone is entitled to do what they want with their own lives/homes but something about it makes me feel quite on edge. Like time is getting pushed faster and faster and we're all rushing on to the next thing and the next thing and the next thing.

I'm not ready for Christmas to be here, I'm really enjoying November! Yes I'm doing some Christmas prep in the background of course with ordering some presents and food but the wonderful thing about Christmas for me is that it is for a limited time each year, and signifies the end of the year into the NY (yes I'm also a January 5th tree person). By extending that earlier and earlier, I don't know. It just sits very uncomfortably with me.

Honestly I was the same as you until post-lockdown and all the changes that brought about. Now it's not a case of rushing to the next thing, which I totally get, but to extend my favourite season for as long as possible. I may not be able to put the tree up yet but I can decorate my garden office, and the house windows will be decorated on the 1st of December and not come down until January, 12th night. I have a lights trail booked for 12th night too!

Climate change, long long days of too much light and sun (here in the SE) and so much uncertainty and gloom has changed my outlook. I want to hold onto Christmas as long as I can

CornedBeef451 · 07/11/2023 08:32

Too early for me but if it makes you happy then go for it!

I'm a bit of a grinch, ours usually goes up 2 weeks before Christmas although DH would like it much earlier. He likes it down before he goes back to work though so it's generally gone again by the 2nd January.

crumpet · 07/11/2023 08:37

Tree won’t be up until the end of the month, but I have watched at least 3 Christmas films…

DappledThings · 05/11/2023 13:56

Due to the day I go back to work it will come down on the 6th/7th January Blush

Why the blushing face? That's the entirely correct day to take it down. The embarrassed face emoji should be for anyone who takes it down anywhere between 26 December and 5 January (inclusive)

Why would someone need to be embarrassed about taking their tree down on a date that suits them?

Because it's the wrong date!

Does it actually affect me? Of course not. Will I continue to judge people who take theor decorations down early? Hell yeah!

CrackleOfWinter · 07/11/2023 16:05

Come on then, those of you who have your trees up ridiculously early, let’s see a pic of them…

HoHoFuckingHo · 07/11/2023 20:57

Requested pics 😁

Oh I do love a Christmas tree photo (no matter how early it is!). 😍😍😍

I love seeing Christmas tree photos, thanks.

Found an article on the timing of taking down the decorations. We’re atheists so 12th night has no meaning to us so we have our own traditions.

According to new research conducted by Next, five million (7%) Brits take down their Christmas decorations on Boxing Day, while just a third (34%) wait until the twelfth night after Christmas to pack their decorations away.
It's important to remember that there is no right or wrong answer. Some people prefer to keep decorations up longer to ease the January blues, while others can't wait to pack them away and have a deep clean.

Nah. Before 12th night is the wrong answer. I'll die on this hill and continue to cheerfully judge away anyone who does it early.

You can't stop me 😂

Lovely pics 🤩
I need more…

Tinaforshort · 09/11/2023 11:47

We put our tree up last weekend. I love Christmas, DH loves it but we always have the ‘debate’ of when the tree goes up. DH is always 1st December earliest - as I’m disabled and unable to get into the loft he usually ‘wins’ but this year it was him that suggested it! I didn’t need asking twice Grin

@Tinaforshort looks lovely, thanks for sharing.

Tinaforshort · 09/11/2023 12:39

Thank you, I love it!

I also should have said in my original post, they won’t come down until the day the kids go back to school, which this year 05/01.

LadyBird1973 · 09/11/2023 13:05

Beautiful trees people! Can't wait to put mine up now

TheChosenTwo · 09/11/2023 13:18

@Tinaforshort very pretty and tasteful!
mine is an absolute riot of mismatched bright gaudy ornaments, coloured lights and some of the kids homemade crap from when they were small, topped with a loo roll inner angel with photos of the kids faces on the top 😂😂 the kids (2 now adult and one tween) decorate the tree, I’ve never done it - I don’t even move anything - I lazily sit on the sofa with a glass of something and watch them throw it all on. One of my
favourite days of the year.
It’s a ghastly monstrosity and I love it so much!

That sounds amazing! We have all the stuff the DC did on the tree but weirdly it was white, so as much as I’d love a bright tree we kind of made the mistake when we initially got everything and, all of the sentimental baubles and stuff.

mondaytosunday · 09/11/2023 13:48

Too early for me - and I love Christmas. We put ours up first weekend in December, and I'm pretty sick of it by New Years, so take it down shortly after. It's quite big with loads of decs so takes a couple days.

StiffyByngsDogBartholomew · 09/11/2023 13:58

We used to make a donation for the tree at the prep school where DD goes to school (now senior though). So we would put the tree up on the day she broke up. However they now have a new Headmaster who donated it to a local hospice last year so we had to get one ourselves, on the plus side it means I can do it earlier this year 😀. I'm thinking 2nd weekend of December.
I make mince pies and mulled wine with canapés and we generally have a nice cosy evening with everyone trying to usurp my Tree Queen authority. Never works lol. Once the tree is up we must watch Deck the Halls. It's the law

SeaGlassTreasure · 09/11/2023 17:26

Lovely trees so far 🎄

I've been nonapologetically making christmas slideshows for two days in a row and I love it 😀besides, I won't have much time for it later with all the preparations, so why not.
