Iv gone and put my tree up

Yesterday, I was sitting at home and kids started saying they wanted the Christmas tree up. Normally, it goes up about the 20ish of December- so quite early by most people's standards anyway!

But, I don't know what came over me. It's all up and decorated. Now, I'm sitting here cooking a Sunday roast and booking Christmas activities Grin

Let the Christmas cheer begin!!

And to think I came on this post for photos!

Love a tree pic, even at the start of November.

Normally, first weekend of December ours would go up, but since having kids, we keep doing it earlier and earlier. This year I'm planning next weekend for ours as I need the twinkling glow of lights in my life!

JNW11 · 05/11/2023 23:12

I put mine up today too! I just love having the Christmas tree up!

StarShipControl · 05/11/2023 23:57

A house in my area had Halloween decs out on the 1st of October. I'm expecting to see Christmas lights there when I walk past tomorrow.

SweetBirdsong · 05/11/2023 23:59

Bit early for me! Another month before mine goes up. Cute though. 🎄Grin

Always wondered if you put your tree up this early do you need to dust it?

EveWinter · 06/11/2023 07:07

Well done OP 😂.

Mine’s going up on Saturday, we need a bit of cheer here and we’ll enjoy it. I bought a new one this year, my old one is about 15 years old and 4ft, this one is 8ft. I took it out of the box at the weekend to see how big it actually looked/see if it fitted in the space I have.

👍 it’s fine, instead of putting it away and in the garage I’m going to get the decs out and switch it on.

When I lived in an old cottage with open fires, wood burner, solid fuel Rayburn I used to have to clean my Christmas stuff before I put it away.

Due to the day I go back to work it will come down on the 6th/7th January Blush

Why the blushing face? That's the entirely correct day to take it down. The embarrassed face emoji should be for anyone who takes it down anywhere between 26 December and 5 January (inclusive)

I'll be taking mine down before I'm back to work on 3rd January. I don't have time to take it all down & put it away on a week day due to work & caring commitments & I'm away the weekend of 6/7th for DS's birthday so it would end up staying up until the 13th January if I didn't!

It will be going up the first weekend in December.

Eh? Are you for real? 😂

My house, my life, my choice.

Entirely! When I'm made benevolent dictator I will legislate for this.

In the meantime I'll just keep quietly judging anyone who takes their decorations down while the 12 days are still going. As is also my choice to to do so!

BirthdayQuestions · 06/11/2023 08:17

I'm not a fan of an early tree. Sorry OP. Obviously everyone is entitled to do what they want with their own lives/homes but something about it makes me feel quite on edge. Like time is getting pushed faster and faster and we're all rushing on to the next thing and the next thing and the next thing.

I'm not ready for Christmas to be here, I'm really enjoying November! Yes I'm doing some Christmas prep in the background of course with ordering some presents and food but the wonderful thing about Christmas for me is that it is for a limited time each year, and signifies the end of the year into the NY (yes I'm also a January 5th tree person). By extending that earlier and earlier, I don't know. It just sits very uncomfortably with me.

hides from baubles thrown at head

I remember somebody suggested putting the decorations up in stages, and I was thinking I would do that this year. So I'll start by putting the garden fairy lights out in a couple of weeks. Anything that brightens the darkness is a win IMO. I'll get round to our tree by the beginning of December.

We love our tree, it has lots of different baubles and decorations on it and I never get bored of looking at it. I suspect the people who do get bored of theirs have dull ones with all the baubles the same, like the ones banks put up.

Yes stages is what we do.
The fur trees outside have had lights on since Halloween. I still have my autumn decor up but have swapped some of my autumn candles for more Christmas scents.
The small tree will go up end of November and the bigger tree first week of December.

Mines up too 🎄🎄🎄 enjoy op because I know I am ❤️🎄

The 12 days is a religious thing though and Christmas in this house is literally a winter festival and nothing to do with religion .

You really need to look up the history of Yule and Twelfth Night!

Twelfth Night is an echo of the pagan Twelve Days of Yule.

The dates have changed to fit the dominant Christian timetable. But Yule, the fore-runner of Christmas, was a 12 day festival

piscofrisco · 06/11/2023 15:53

I bought some garland making bits on Saturday to do my stairs with and I'm
Itching to put them up. But I'm resisting until the last week in November when I feel it's legitimate to trim the house, with the tree up last on December 1st!

Floralnomad · 06/11/2023 18:53

@MoggyP , when you Google it it is very much about religion :

What are the 12 days of Christmas? The 12 days of Christmas is the period in Christian theology that marks the span between the birth of Christ and the coming of the Magi, the three wise men. It begins on December 25 (Christmas) and runs through January 6 (the Epiphany, sometimes also called Three Kings' Day)
It may well have different meanings but this is how it’s known to me and I’m atheist .

TheMainCharacter · 06/11/2023 19:05

I don’t want my decorations up yet but I do start my shopping in September, which is just a different way of extending the excitement!

Ivalueloyaltyaboveallelse · 06/11/2023 19:32

I want to see photos! Sadly we don’t have ours yet but plan on doing it early December.

TheChosenTwo · 06/11/2023 22:07

Jeepers that’s early! Hey ho (ho ho) your house!!
I get sick of mine and it’s only ever up for about 10-12 days, usually get it the second weekend before Christmas and it’s back down and outside for the tree collection people on the 26th, we go on holiday every year on the 27th and come back the day before we go back to work/school so like it all back to normal before then.
i love the tree but it’s just normally too big (due to dh and the dcs inability to choose something sensible 😂) and takes up space and generally blocks so much natural light from its position in the bay window so makes the room feel dark.

marshmallowfinder · 05/11/2023 13:39

How totally depressing.

You might be best to take your Grinchyness off the Christmas board 😂

Enjoy your tree, OP🎄

littleblackcat27 · 07/11/2023 06:08

Love the early tree pics 😍

Nice one OP - for starting this thread!

I'm going on an annual visit to massive garden centre later this week with a mate. We go specifically to gaze at all things Christmassy - and to eat cake

Enjoy your early/trees/lights/decorations

AuntieStella · 05/11/2023 12:05

Well, if you enjoy it....

Personally, I think it's better to wait until Advent Sunday (which can be in November, but is 3 December this year), or at least until after Remembrance Day.

I hope that you will be keeping decorations up through the full 12 Days of Christmas (down on 6th Jan, which is the day after that and Epiphany)

We don’t put ours up to mid December but never have it up in January. I like everything cleared away once Christmas is over with a clean and tidy house to start the new year.

BMrs · 07/11/2023 06:44

Enjoy it!

My kids are 4 and 8 now and they were asking me to decorate, so we've got our smaller tree up in the kitchen and our Christmas village up. I was going to hold off on the main tree but they asked if we could do it tonight.

I thought sod it, it's not been the best couple of weeks and not hurting anyone. The kids were so excited yesterday as well

Zanatdy · 07/11/2023 07:37

Haha why not!! My new window lights came yesterday. But no decorated houses / flats near me yet so I’m holding off yet for a few more weeks. I’m not even a big Christmas fan, I just like the fact it cheers up the dreary winter nights with a few sparkly lights
