Yesterday, I was sitting at home and kids started saying they wanted the Christmas tree up. Normally, it goes up about the 20ish of December- so quite early by most people's standards anyway!

But, I don't know what came over me. It's all up and decorated. Now, I'm sitting here cooking a Sunday roast and booking Christmas activities Grin

Let the Christmas cheer begin!!

Too early for me to do ours but I do love seeing other people's lit up if I walk/ drive past them.

ThanksItHasPockets · 05/11/2023 18:50

I used to be a sneery bitch about early Christmas decorations but then one family I worked with had an early Christmas because a relative was terminally ill and wouldn't make it to December, and another had one because the father was being deployed at the end of November, and I well and truly got over myself.

Enjoy your tree, OP. Ours won't go up until December but I have already decided to have two this year so I am in no position to judge others for being extra.

TheNoodlesIncident · 05/11/2023 18:54

I remember somebody suggested putting the decorations up in stages, and I was thinking I would do that this year. So I'll start by putting the garden fairy lights out in a couple of weeks. Anything that brightens the darkness is a win IMO. I'll get round to our tree by the beginning of December.

We love our tree, it has lots of different baubles and decorations on it and I never get bored of looking at it. I suspect the people who do get bored of theirs have dull ones with all the baubles the same, like the ones banks put up.

@TwoItalianApples I was looking at all the Christmas food on fortnums earlier! I really would like a hamper!

Yes popped in but it was heaving. Lovely stuff though.

hiredandsqueak · 05/11/2023 19:13

Each to their own OP, I'm more for as close to Christmas as possible. Walking the dog last week saw one house trimmed up for Halloween and their neighbour with tree, lights and huge Santas on the front.

AllProperTeaIsTheft · 05/11/2023 19:18

Mine would be brown twigs by Christmas if I did that. I love Christmas, but not early - I'd be totally fed up with it all by the time it actually came! We put ours up in mid-December. Enjoy yours though, OP!

Floralnomad · 05/11/2023 19:18

End of November / Dec 1st for us but I can see the appeal of having it up earlier .

I mean each to their own and there’s worse things you could have in your house (piles of clutter, overflowing bin bags, rats, cliff Richard posters etc.) but this just seems so bizarre to me!
i guess as Christmas moves away from being a religious festival and towards being a secular ‘season’ it will seem less odd!

Cliff Richard posters😆

SeaGlassTreasure · 05/11/2023 19:22

Enjoy OP 🎄

Nesbi · 05/11/2023 19:23

You should add some cobwebs and pumpkins. Not long now til Halloween 🎃 🕷️

Christmas trees have never been a religious symbol, so putting up your tree early or late is nothing to do with religious significance.

JMSA · 05/11/2023 19:30

You're a nutjob OP, but I luffs you Grin

LindorDoubleChoc · 05/11/2023 19:34

Ours will go up on or around 15th December as usual.

BUT - I have gone slightly nuts today and bought a Christmas present! It was an easy one as one of the DC has told us what they want. So I was out shopping today and I went and bought it. I feel slightly out of kilter as Christmas prep doesn't start until 1st December in this house at the absolute earliest. I feel discombobulated.

HoHoFuckingHo · 05/11/2023 19:38

Mine are up as well. Nothing remotely depressing about it, quite the opposite actually. Makes the house lovely and cozy in the evenings and the baby is fascinated with it. Other dd super excited as she gets her own to decorate in the playroom so she keeps her grubby little hands off mine!

Really cheers up the dark nights

Cosywintertime · 05/11/2023 19:43

wont you get bored of it by Christmas? I would. It’s nearly two months away. Fairy lights can give the same sort of effect, you don’t need the full blown tree?

BOOTS52PollyPrissyPants · 05/11/2023 20:02

Enjoy the tree and lights and think it is lovely in a room and because you have small children. I will put it up in December. Also I know people who put their tree up so early and really go all out with decorating the house as I never seen so many lovely expensive decorations, even down to the seat covers, cushions but I cannot understand that they then take it down 2 days after Christmas.

I like to leave my tree up until week or 2 after Christmas and always hate taking it down and is funny as see so many trees up for ages after especially in student houses. Read a thread on here yesterday and loads saying take it down straight after Christmas.

I did prefer when we were children and Halloween began at Halloween as a big celebration in Ireland as that is where it originated and also Christmas began in December and we enjoyed it more. Now everything over commercialized and have lost their true meaning.

jocktamsonsbairn · 05/11/2023 20:50

Ah brilliant! If it makes you happy and is hurting nobody then why the hell not!! DD and her flat mates took down the Halloween decs on Nov 1st and put up the Christmas ones! They are happy, you are happy! Win win!

rdgaisnhyg · 05/11/2023 21:55

So, had a very Christmassy day under the glow of the twinkling lights!

Ordered some Christmas presents and booked a few Christmas activities after having cheese and crackers and baileys.

Back to work tomorrow where I will hide the fact Im living a double life Grin

I love that you are living a double life. You enjoy!

Thelondonone · 05/11/2023 22:11

We put up fairy lights in our window nov 2920 during covid. We’ve never taken them Down, I love them. Im
not putting my tree up until 3rd dev but if it makes you happy then good for you x

The tree definitely won't be coming down early. I like it up for New Year's Eve and New Year's Day and then take it down. Due to the day I go back to work it will come down on the 6th/7th January Blush

Tucking into my Sunday lunch with the Christmas tree twinkling! Glad I'm not the only one! Had a delivery earlier and the delivery man gave me a bemused look as my hallway is decorated too Grin but he didn't say anything.

Good for you! I would gladly have mine up if I was a free agent!

I used to be a proper sniffy purist about when Christmas decs should go up, but it's a dark and scary world and we've had lockdowns and Covid and we're living through climate change and a CoL crisis....We need twinkling lights and festive cheer now more than ever. I've just looked through the family Christmas jumpers and smiled because they have such happy associations. Not game enough to wear one yet though!

I watched my first Hallmark Christmas movie and I never thought I'd do that in early November! Or anytime really.

I hold onto Christmas for as long as I can, including booking a Christmas Lights Trail for early January!
