TEMU Bargains

Any chance we can have a thread on TEMU items? I keep seeing items I know my (by Xmas) 8 year old girl would adore. So far bits and bobs we have had from there have been good - more luggage and summer based items so far. Have been looking at all the jewellery and bedroom organisers, night lights, etc. Would love to see anyone else’s finds! Also thinking that the whilst deliver is about a week at the moment, this is likely to increase my Xmas.

please no comments about human rights/ slave labour etc. the likes of other Chinese based bargain website, Shein, Amazon, Primark will be no better 🙂

It's so hard with the col crisis, we all want a bargain. However I am not choosing to use TEMU for all the reasons upthread.

I do like Kenji and flying Tiger for bargain and fun presents. If I find out they are problematic I will avoid them too.

HerMammy · 15/08/2023 08:12

So don't buy any of it! Put food in stockings and give up on random crap!
I have a feeling not many kids would be impressed with this!!
MN truly is nuts at times 🤣

BBno4 · 15/08/2023 08:28

I got all this stuff for my children and they loved it. If the price decreases on the app within 30 days they give you a partial refund aswell.

The dress I bought, looks exactly 💯 like the picture. My dd will wear it to a wedding later in the year.

I love Temu, its better than Wish and has free delivery.

When I joined I also got a fat discount and 10 items for the price of 6! I ended up opening an account on my dh phone so I could use the coupon again.

I have a coupon code if you would like to use it.

Can you accept my invitation so that I can get a free gift?

Isn’t collecting things like pin badges the poster child definition of owning things for the sake of owning them? Or do pin badges have some sort of hidden purpose that I’m unaware of? They’re cute sure, and owning cute pointless things isn’t completely bad, but isn’t it better to own a few carefully curated pin badges in quality materials and of a decent standard than trying to own as many as logistically possible by buying cheap crappy ones?

I have to say I agree with this.

I grew up in a household with little money, very working class background. Very old school make do and mend type attitude. I remember my mum being totally against stuff like this and refusing to buy "pointless" stuff like badges just because we children fancied them. For her it was a matter of hating to waste money, but it obviously had good environmental side effects too. We certainly didn't suffer because mum didn't buy masses of cheap toys and collectible items.

For Christmas stuff, I get high quality stuff second hand for pennies. Because it's high quality, I can usually sell on after we're done using it too as it lasts and doesn't just fall apart like cheap tat!

This is my thoughts. Yes TEMU is likely to be unethical and not officially meet British standards, but it’s unlikely to be better than any other bargains from purely online retailers.

Can't believe the blase way you justify this- yes it's unethical and not U.K. to British standards but who cares.

Wow.

I’m not going to echo what everyone else has said about slave labour and nasty chemicals, but did you see that article about just how much of your info you’re giving access to by downloading the Temu app? I don’t do apps at all, but even the person writing the article said it was excessive. That alone put me off.

Totally my take on this. And there are also cases of people having their accounts raised and cleared.

Prinnny · 15/08/2023 11:11

Thanks for the heads up OP! Just had a little splurge, Christmas Kraft gift bags for my team, Christmas and fall nail gems, hocus pocus tshirts for me and DD, fall decor, some new Christmas decor bits and some weird and wonderful items like blackhead poppers and earwax removers 🤣 can’t wait for it to come!

ITSSSSCHRISTMASSS · 15/08/2023 15:42

Writing a post about TEMU was never going to go down well with the almighty hypocritical virtuous brigade on here.

Ive only shopped on TEMU once and was impressed, fast delivery and good quality goods. I use shein and aliexpress a lot and have a number of items already saved. My DDs tend to like things that can’t be bought in most shops so aliexpress and shein are my go to places.

I’ve got quite a bit of grinch stuff ready to buy as we are doing a grinch theme this year.

I guess I’m a bad person as I’ve just ordered 4 Christmas presents from Temu but realistically with the way things are right now I’m not going to be able to afford to buy to buy loads of presents at regular prices 😬 The 4 toys I’ve just ordered from Temu would have cost about £30 more on Amazon (and one of them is identical) so whilst it is obviously awful to have things made the way they are, one person not buying from one app isn’t going to stop that.
I’ve also got some gifts from Facebook marketplace, eBay and charity shops so it’s not like everything I am buying is from there but I’m just doing my best to find things that people will like on a little budget 🤷‍♀️

narniabusiness · 15/08/2023 17:40

Even if those toys don’t comply with UK safety standards? Just because they look the same in the photo doesn’t mean they are the same.

FusionChefGeoff · 15/08/2023 19:15

Just adding another voice pleading with people not to buy this crap - without us generating the demand the MASSIVE industrial carbon footprint will drop

Don’t understand why you want your children to have the knock off, possibly unsafe versions of things.

Why do you need to buy loads of Christmas presents?

BeverlyBrook · 15/08/2023 19:40

Temu stuff is utter shit. Made in factories using basically slave labour.
Posted to you to avoid them having to pay vat to the UK government. Massive I mean MASSIVE carbon footprint.

No it is not the same as Primark. Primark pays taxes and sells stuff that passes EU safety regs. And they know exactly what factories they buy from.

you do realise you will not be getting an identical one to the one on amazon? It wont have gone through the same safety tests - in fact you will be lucky to get one that even looks like the photo

Because you and your information is the commodity. The cheap stuff is just to get you to willingly hand it over.

I’m not judging anyone for shopping with them. And I agree that it’s a bit rich to talk about carbon footprints when you live in a three bed house, you have kids, you drive and you go on foreign holidays. But they are mining people for information and I don’t think everyone is aware to the extent they’re doing it, or the level of access you’re giving them.

Tiredmummy201 · 15/08/2023 21:38

My DC 8 & 12 love Temu .. yes it’s all tat but everything they have ordered has actually been ok and just as shown on the app. I’ll be ordering stocking filler bits for them for Xmas off there. Only things I’m wary of are electrical items like phone chargers etc won’t buy them.

FoodFann · 15/08/2023 21:42

MileyWiley · 13/08/2023 14:03

I don’t see it as any different to Ali express, Wish or Shein. Items from the above are all regularly shared on the Bargain Thread especially as stocking fillers.

Same. Which is why I wouldn’t shop at any of those places either 🥴 Do you really need to import this tat from China? What are you teaching your DD?

Ampharos · 16/08/2023 02:02

You’d be mad to buy anything off Temu. Read the T&C carefully before you’re potentially charged £££ out of your bank account further down the line. Or your details are sold off.

And for the love of god, never ever use a debit card if you are going to buy from there!

VikingLady · 16/08/2023 15:37

There are all sort of truly bizarre things coming up on my ads from them. I don't think I've seen a single advert where I haven't thought "well, that's weird"!
