Crochet for Christmas

Does anyone want to join me in a thread for Christmas crochet chat/ideas?
I realise it's a bit niche but Crochet and Christmas are my two favourite things!
I'm fairly new to Crochet but planning on making Christmas pudding tree decorations for everyone, stockings for the DC as well as toys to go in the stockings. My DC love to watch me crochet so I think they'll like them!
So, would anyone care to join me?

Hello fellow crocheters! Can I ask your advice please for some crochet that isn't Christmas related?

I'm making a baby cardigan and the sleeve is pointing at a 90 degree angle. Is this normal?!

Thanks

TruthThatsHardAsSteel · 27/08/2023 00:40

Can you show a pic of the cardigan and pattern!? Very hard to visualise.

Just sharing this mosaic Christmas one, I had it saved in my browser for ages

Your plans for Christmas pudding tree decorations and stockings with crocheted toys sound adorable and personal. Have you considered any specific color themes for the decorations? I'd love to hear more about the toys you're planning to create for the stockings. Wishing you a delightful time with your crochet projects and a cozy, craft-filled Christmas!"

Btw, last week I bookmarked this Pinterest Board - Crochet Christmas Ornaments

Good luck 😻

CrochetBug · 29/08/2023 15:23

@OddsocksinmyDocs I've made cardigans where the sleeves are at 90 degrees to the body so I'd say it was normal (I've also made ones where they aren't)

Eachpeachpears · 31/08/2023 07:48

I'm so chuffed with my Christmas Pudding! Sorry I've been quiet on this thread it's the summer holidays so crochet time is limited!
I've tried a few different patterns out and this one came up trumps! I've also crocheted a set of pumpkins for the window next month.
I'm working on another set of pumpkins for my lovely mum and then I'll be starting the Christmas stockings I think.

That's so cute!

I also love crochet pumpkins, so easy but very effective!

@Eachpeachpears Your Christmas Pud is adorable. 🎄

Jules0702 · 06/09/2023 13:55

I’m making this as a gift for a friend.

I’m also adding to a crocheted paper chain that I always add to.

I’d like to make a jingle garland (can’t upload the image).

I’d also love to make Marion’s Christmas blanket but that may be a bit ambitious.

@Jules0702 can you share a picture of the paper chain?
I’ve started making one (just been improvising) but I’m not convinced about it!

Lillygolightly · 06/09/2023 14:06

I love crochet and Christmas my 2 favourite things…other than my kids of course!

I have toddler twins so not as much crochet going on recently, but I made pumpkin’s for DD’s school last Autumn and I made these Christmas Lights.

They look like this although I don’t have a photo of mine.

I can’t seem to find a pattern but it’s pretty straightforward.

i cast on 30 stitches and join into a circle, then I knit 15 or 20 rows.

I use scraps of 4-ply sock yarn with a 3mm needle.

I love those Christmas Lights!

Jules0702 · 06/09/2023 14:26

Sorry forgot to mention that the chain is knit not crocheted.

AlpaNat · 11/09/2023 10:02

Have any of you considered macramé? It's very much related to crochet. :)
There are hundreds of models on Pinterest. You can even start with a toilet paper roll as a Santa hat structure🙃 🎄🎄🙃

@Bibbitybobbitty and @britespark1 and anyone else - do you have a pattern for the Chocolate Orange covers? I have made 3 using 2 different patterns - on the last one I used a slightly bigger crochet hook, and they are all too small! I'm so upset! Looking now for a good pattern that'll actually work!

britespark1 · 02/11/2023 08:58

I don’t have a pattern sorry as I just fudged it from a ghost one I’ve been making for years. I personally use cygnet chunky wool with a 4.5mm hook. For the main body I just put 6 sc into magic ring, and increase row by row until I get to 30 stitches. Then I just keep doing the 30 stitch rows until it sits nicely on a choc orange.

The nose is just 6sc into magic circle, increase to 12 and add black yarn for the nostrils.

The ears are just 6c into mc, increase to 12, increase to 18 and decrease back to 12 to get the “curve”.

Sorry if that makes no sense 😂 I’ve never written a pattern as I’m sure you can tell!

ScottishBeth · 02/11/2023 09:07

@britespark1 no that is perfect! I don't think I'll do that exactly but it will hopefully help a lot. (And if it doesn't work I will buy some of that yarn and follow it exactly). Maybe you should publish your pattern!

britespark1 · 02/11/2023 09:10

Hope it helps! I really do just seem to fudge my way along with most projects 😂I don’t know how to publish a pattern but you’re right, maybe I should try!

Bump

ihaveayod · 19/12/2023 14:47

I have finally finished the blanket. The pattern is from #woolthreadpaint. I have also just realised the blanket is upside down on the bed.

That's beautiful! My christmas blanket that I've been making since August is still a work in progress. Not sure it will be done before the decorations come down.

ihaveayod · 19/12/2023 15:16

Thank you @WhyDoesItAlways It's hard to find the time to just sit and crochet isn't it, there is always something that needs doing but when I do get time I find it relaxing.

ScottishBeth · 21/12/2023 11:32

@ihaveayod the blanket is amazing - well done!

I am close to having finished my chocolate orange covers (will post a picture when they are done) but it is driving me mad! I'm planning on making a Christmad stocking for next year but I'm going to start it in March as having this deadline is just adding to my stress 😩

ihaveayod · 21/12/2023 14:25

@ScottishBeth Thank you

littleblackcat27 · 22/12/2023 08:27

@ihaveayod lovely blanket - I finished mine in time to give to my friend on Dec 1st - really enjoyed making it!!

I'm back to cross stitch now for a bit.

ScottishBeth · 22/12/2023 14:35

These are my chocolate orange covers. To be h9nest they have been the bane of my life! But I am pleased with how they have turned out.

Thanks @britespark1 for help with the pattern! I honestly could not have done it without you!
