Most came down last night. The tree finally went today. I'm probably miserable but I can't bear going back to work and them still being up.

My house is still clean and tidy, it just has a Christmas tree in it!

SideshowAuntSallly · 28/12/2022 08:50

Tree came down on Boxing day and went to the dump yesterday. For me Christmas started in October though as I was organising the work Christmas party and it was the one thing that was on my list of things to discuss with my boss in my 121 every week.

I'm now ready for my routine to get back to normal.

BackOnTheBandWagon · 28/12/2022 09:25

Dear lord, the number of people who do cleaning between Xmas and new year. Anyone else like me who is either seeing friends/family or slobbing in a dressing gown?!

Decorations won't come down til the 5th. It's too much like cleaning otherwise Grin

WhatFreshHeII · 28/12/2022 09:38

Ours come down the Sunday after Twelfth Night, because the Saturday closest to TN we have our final fling of the season - a sort of party/special meal thing to say goodbye to Christmas and welcome the coming year properly. So this Christmas they will be coming down on 8 January, the day before DH and DD go back to work.

They've been up since the last Friday in November, same as every year.

We keep some fairy lights up all year - they're particularly necessary in the dark days and evenings of Jan/Feb.

I never understand this mentality, we must be the exception to the rule because we love our decorations, they go up mid November every year and we only take them down in the first week of January, this year it will be on the 7th.
We love having the house decorated for as long as possible and will be sad to take it all down.

Are you me, @KillingLoneliness?!

I'm with you completely. Christmas is a season, not a day. Ours are never up for less than six weeks - it takes the edge off the darkest weeks of the year. By the time they come down the evenings are beginning to draw out a bit and we're over the hump. Plus they look lovely!

Sugarsandwiches · 28/12/2022 09:50

Down on 27th each year, fabulous.
house is serene, full of hyacinth and narcissus bulbs. Lots of lamps so it’s cosy for winter in the evenings. I do still like seeing decorations up throughout new year and at others homes, and if we were hosting for new year I’d keep up til 3 Jan

CornishGem1975 · 28/12/2022 10:45

Started taking them down today. May leave the tree up until New Years Day but the rest of the clutter is going.

Yes I'm chilling and pottering around, not a day to go out

Tbh we didn't put up that many decorations

BooksAndHooks · 28/12/2022 12:44

I leave out the nativity and wise men set, I like having everything else away apart from this until 12th night.

boatahoy · 28/12/2022 12:48

My decorations are mostly all down. DH works abroad and unexpectedly needs to return to work so it's easier to take the decorations down when he's still here to help. It's been a strange Christmas as I had a very recent family bereavement.

MarieIVanArkleStinks · 28/12/2022 13:05

We always go away the first weekend in December, so the decorations go up in the second week. I treasure my Christmas trees and love seeing all the familiar baubles etc come out. By the time they go down they'll have been up a clear three weeks, which is fine and I don't get sick of the sight of them.

We spend the evening of 31st December away with friends, so the decorations will come down that morning before we leave. I prefer coming home in January with that task done, leaving me free to focus on work.

BUT - do whatever pleases you. There's no right or wrong to this, and as far as I'm concerned any excuse for a happy celebration (or none, if you prefer) is fine by me! It's a dark month and things have been difficult for many people for a number of years.

BahHumbug2022 · 28/12/2022 14:18

I take them down after New Year Day. I love having them up for the bit in between as it’s still the holiday to me. Also like them up for New Years Eve. All twinkly and fun.

And then down for the fresh start in January.

dontgobaconmyheart · 28/12/2022 15:13

We don't put huge amounts up, just a tree essentially and that's still standing. I'll take it down whenever I can be bothered - maybe the weekend.

The house is clean and tidy enough and essentially looks exactly the same as usua. I can't imagine feeling these huge compulsions towards things that I need them gone the first viable second or I can't get on with anything but equally I certainly don't think there's a right or wrong date wise. Those who enjoy the ambience of the tree, why not enjoy it for as long as you like.

Krakenwakes · 28/12/2022 15:51

A friend of mine is only putting her decorations and tree up today, ready for the remainder of the Christmas season.

CambsAlways · 28/12/2022 15:54

Mine down yesterday

Abracadabra12345 · 02/01/2023 22:28

We’ve come back from a few days away and it was so nice to walk along the street with its twinkling Christmassy lights in the windows of houses and outside. The (UK) shopping centre we went to had lovely lights and Christmas trees. Our window is still decorated and our Christmas trees, which don’t take up much room, look lovely. I still love switching off the lights out so it’s just the Christmas lights on the tree.

This time has gone far too fast, I wish it could last another month but I suppose it will all have to come down this Friday

Cherrysherbet · 02/01/2023 22:32

Ours will come down on Thursday 5th Jan. Dds birthday is on Wednesday, and we always keep them up for that.

flumposie · 02/01/2023 23:47

Mine always come down on the 2nd. On the 3rd I put birthday decorations up in the evening for my daughter's birthday on the 4th. I keep lights up in the living room all year though.

IVFlife · 03/01/2023 00:00

Took mine down yesterday. Needed the space back.

honeyrider · 03/01/2023 00:59

I'm going to keep mine up for at least another week or two maybe longer.

The late Queen kept them up until sometime in February in Sandringham.

Schnooze · 03/01/2023 01:54

Mine came down today, well yesterday now. Always before work starts again as that’s the end of Xmas.

mackthepony · 03/01/2023 02:13

Think I'll do the tree at the weekend. Can't bear to take it down this week really

Adeckofcards · 03/01/2023 09:53

Same here. Now just need to bring the decorations to the attic and organise fir the tree to be picked up.
