Unexpected Christmas present wins

There was a thread a couple of years back where people posted their unexpectedly brilliant present wins - it was quite heartwarming so I wondered if anyone had any this year? I do - we got DS these tiny rubbery creepy crawly tentacle things you chuck at a wall and they slowly roll down, as a stocking filler, and he’s been playing with them all morning - the greens and yellows are zombies and the others are the goodies apparently - there has been much monologue-ing! He’s barely touched anything else 😂😂😂

A Ring doorbell. Family recipient had mentioned for ages that he wanted one but never said why. Turns out he has quite severe anxiety when people come to the door (we never knew) and it really stresses him out. Being able to see who's there and ask them to leave packages in the garden etc is a huge relief. He burst into tears when he unwrapped it and it led to a really cool conversation where he shared about some of his MH struggles. 😊

DS (13) hamster shaped screen cleaner from his stocking and DD (11) Christmas shaped pasta Xmas Grin

Tiredalwaystired · 25/12/2022 17:31

The teenagers got an orange some haribo and some kids blowing bubbles in their stockings and LOVED them!

CornishTiger · 25/12/2022 17:35

A glue gun for DD11 lots of crafting fun this afternoon.
A Pokemon tin for DS15 who I didn’t think would love it as much as he did. The winner was a mini figure he’s been wanting for years and his stepdad got it as a surprise.

MrsRinaDecker · 25/12/2022 17:42

A tube of Pringles and a can of original irn bru in ds(16’s) stocking. Pants / socks / lounge pants for ds(20).. he’s a student and tries to avoid doing laundry for as long as possible 😂

QueenMabby · 25/12/2022 18:18

For dd (14) a kalimba (finger piano) and some prit slicks.

For ds (16) a Multitool and a volleyball.

Cat next door had proper Xmas dinner. Now comatose and purry on sofa.

Sweet little cat. Do your neighbours know you're feeding it?

OhhhhhhhhBiscuits · 25/12/2022 18:32

Sling Puck game. Our 5 year old has played with it for over 4 hours today with various people. All of us have loved it and we just bought it as a little extra!

That's such a lovely post.

Well done for listening to the person both about what they wanted and then when they felt ready to say why.

I bet you've made their Christmas in more ways than just the actual gift.

We had a variant those as presents in my sons 7th birthday party bags, The boys threw them at everything and like yours a massive hit. A few stuck on the ceiling . One sticky ninja is still hanging tough to this day. DS is nearly 19 🙂,

Mini tins of Pringles in a cracker, Jolly Rancher sweets, bath fizzers, stationery

timtam23 · 25/12/2022 18:43

DC1 - Bluetooth waterproof speaker with a suction cup on the back so you can stick it to the shower and have music while you wash.
DC2 - Swiss Army knife with screwdrivers and various gadgets on it. Beyond excited!
DH - A huge bag of dry roasted peanuts
Me - A little necklace from the DCs, it's the first year they've gone out independently to buy presents, they smuggled it back into the house and kept it a complete secret until today.

Cuwins · 25/12/2022 18:45

Not unexpected exactly but I was surprised that my DD 10m got straight away how to play her xylophone instead of just eating the stick like I expected!

Shaunthesheep34 · 25/12/2022 18:47

My dd12 was absolutely thrilled with her electric milk frother. She has been frothing milk all day for our coffee and for her siblings to drink, shes only stopped because we are going to run out of milk for tomorrows breakfast and so I've told her to stop using it. Best £8odd I've ever spent.

PurpleMarbleWaterBottle · 25/12/2022 18:51

My mum got me a huge chocolate selection box but made it herself with all my favourite chocolate bars in and even included a mug and my favourite hot chocolate.

My DD bought me socks, I love socks and I love these even more because my little DD chose them herself.

This is fabulous lovely idea.

Lovely thread 😍

Always4Brenner · 25/12/2022 18:56

Today I expected no presents as on own now so brought myself 2nd hand books well two neighbours one brought Star Wars shower gel and Yoda coloured scrunchi I was thrilled enough at that my other friend she had to open it I couldn’t due to my hands opened the envelope signed picture of Mathew Modine to say I was thrilled was understatement she’d been planning it for weeks. So for me best Christmas for years no grumpiness.

Beanie with built in speakers, bought by DD2 for her big sis.

This was DH’s favourite present last year, by a mile!
Previously never wore a hat, even when it snowed as he thought he looked silly. Wore it constantly, even in summer, to listen to his podcasts 😂

Haysfam · 25/12/2022 19:00

Pin art for the nearly 7 year old and kinetic sand. Been playing with them all day.

murasaki · 25/12/2022 19:04

My 8 year old neice was so delighted with her box of fidget toys that she talked me through at least 20 of them on facetime while I was outside the pub. To be fair, they looked pretty good, fancy some of them myself! Her mum was pleased with a hamper of retro chocolate bars, quote, do picnics even exist now? And gin. In fact every female member of family got gin.....

I am very pleased with my aston villa pjs and sweary mugs. And the gin.

Idratherbepaddleboarding · 25/12/2022 19:10

All of DS(13)’s presents were hits but an extra gift that I got him after seeing someone else had bought one for their teen was a poker set in a metal case. DS declared it ‘very sophisticated’ 😂.

blueflagflyhigh · 25/12/2022 19:12

Slinky at £1 and a black note pad that u scratch and it's rainbow colour underneath also £1.

She's hardly looked at the £200 Barbie dream house 🙈 she was very excited this morning when she saw it but hasn't played with it much at all despite it being the thing she apparently really wanted!

ShaunaTheSheep · 25/12/2022 19:18

DD's 9am raid of the Gilly Hicks sale online.
Handed over my phone and credit card and she went to it and refeshed her wardrobe. Such an easy way to go Xmas gift shoppingSmile
