Unexpected Christmas present wins

There was a thread a couple of years back where people posted their unexpectedly brilliant present wins - it was quite heartwarming so I wondered if anyone had any this year? I do - we got DS these tiny rubbery creepy crawly tentacle things you chuck at a wall and they slowly roll down, as a stocking filler, and he’s been playing with them all morning - the greens and yellows are zombies and the others are the goodies apparently - there has been much monologue-ing! He’s barely touched anything else 😂😂😂

The biggest hits by far for my 3yo were a pack of Peppa Pig hair clips and a snap band. She’s gone to bed wearing them all!
The older one’s favourite present was blu tack and a pack of highlighters.
I don’t think I’m going to bother with expensive presents next year!

A Whoopee Cushion.... my mum bought it as a joke for DS (7)!! He LOVES it!!! We have all had lots of laughs to be fair!

Just goes to show...it's the simple things that win!

Dd 10 got more chopsticks this year, she absolutely loves chopsticks and she loved these as all had a picture of cats on.
got DS electronic salt and pepper mill, that was a big hit... it was mainly because he puts salt and pepper everywhere, and I mean everywhere when grinding himself, these new ones are so much mess free...

Not surprising but surprising how much he liked it. My DH got my DS6 a cheap pack of Pokémon cards from Ali express. He also got a folder to store all the cards. He spent about 3 hours sorting out the cards into groups and filing them. Showed all the family zooms them. Barely looked at his nearly €600 bike!

Haha another one with a 5 year old DD who loved her whoppee cushion! Also big hits - a remote control robot, the little live pets chameleon and a really cheap miniature plastic treasure chest with 9 different coloured plastic jewels in

mamaduckbone · 25/12/2022 23:39

Ds17 was completely delighted by a BB8 mug and some Trash Packs in his stocking - both silly charity shop finds but he loves Star Wars and used to collect trash packs when he was little so they just made him laugh!
Also I very last minute put in a pizza express gift card for him and greggs for ds13 so they can treat themselves when they're out and they seemed chuffed with them too.
Stockings are impossible for teenage boys so it's always good to find something that's not socks, smellies or food.

nanodyne · 25/12/2022 23:52

My mum got DS a bead threading kit for toddlers and it's the only thing he's been interested in playing with today.

Wetblanket78 · 25/12/2022 23:53

Books I got for my son. He's 21 and severly autistic. But he loves books and being read to. I spent a fortune on him. The books, me reading them all to him and heavy winter coat I got him have been his favourite.

InconvenientPeg · 26/12/2022 00:07

Christmas shaped pasta for DS18, he's hidden it in his room so that he can cook it after a night shift.

And a knife sharpener for DD13, I actually bought it for us because we needed a new one, DH wanted to wrap it for her because she's really good about sharpening the knives when she uses them to cook, and she was delighted with it 🤣

britsabroad · 26/12/2022 00:08

DS2 loves the whoopee cushion from his stocking. Other winners - pop up pirate, rubbish truck and build a tractor

Stelmosfire1 · 26/12/2022 01:00

This lovely book, DD10 adored it and had completed it and read it cover to cover in no time

Axe throwing (plastic) game for ds 9. Echo dot for dd (12). Pink blu tac and pastel highlighters.

kateandme · 26/12/2022 02:00

A snood but with the ability to pull the back up to a hood. We all eyes each other and pretended to be in a cult.but actually they are super warm and practical and will cover all the bits that the wind gets to with just a it and scarf.
A picture with a qouate on it that you might usual vom over actually made me joyous because of who it was from.

A crimpet

Same ish here.

5 year old ds came home from school a couple of weeks ago with four pokemon cards someone had given him that he's shown a bit of interest in.

I bought him a box of 50 (opened but new) from Amazon for £7...just a stocking filler. He nearly peed his pants on excitement and has spent all day laying them out, organising them, showing them off, sorting them more, putting them in piles.

He's never seen an episode of pokemon in his life and can't read much yet so can't even read the names on the cards! But obviously someone in school must have been imparting knowledge because he talks about them with great authority.

SilverGlassHare · 26/12/2022 06:24

Someone got my DS a Pokémon encyclopaedia - he’s not a big reader (yet, she says hopefully) but he was very excited to get this. I’m hoping the subject matter will entice him into reading a bit more for pleasure.

14yo ds loved his Kalimba thumb piano. Father Christmas bought it in desperation trying to fill his stocking and it's been played with by everyone all Christmas.

Marleymoo42 · 26/12/2022 07:04

A kids archery set. Looked out the window while cooking Christmas lunch to see my 8 year old and his 84 year old granny having the time of their life firing arrows in the garden. (Both looked quite pleased to have escaped from the rest of the family!)

littlestowl · 26/12/2022 07:05

@Squarerootofpi - could I ask which plasma ball it is? I’ve been looking on Amazon as need one for a January birthday but was umming about whether they’d be ok quality wise!

CornishTiger · 26/12/2022 07:12

Also Doodle Jamz were appreciated by my 6 and 11 year old.

lorisparkle · 26/12/2022 07:57

I was very concerned about buying my teenage ds a coverless duvet as their main present. None of them had ever mentioned them and ds1 is autistic and can not hide his feelings about presents. However they ALL loved them ! A real win!

A talking hamster toy that was £8 from eBay! It repeats what you say and has had all of my children in hysterics all morning - best buy ever

Last year santa got dd one of those but so did MIL. If you have two they go a bit crazy repeating each other and it's even funnier. Just saying in case he wants a friend next Xmas!

Polkadotpjs · 26/12/2022 08:26

This is lovely. Mine are older now but love reading these for inspiration next year. I've not felt at all Christmassy this year and struggled yesterday but these really cheer me up and show how the little things are what is remembered

AmazingBouncingFerret · 26/12/2022 08:33

My 16 year old son strangely really loved the little pack of post it notes that have little designs and instructions on how to fold them into little origami figures.

I can only apologise to his teachers when he goes back to school with them.
