Unexpected Christmas present wins

There was a thread a couple of years back where people posted their unexpectedly brilliant present wins - it was quite heartwarming so I wondered if anyone had any this year? I do - we got DS these tiny rubbery creepy crawly tentacle things you chuck at a wall and they slowly roll down, as a stocking filler, and he’s been playing with them all morning - the greens and yellows are zombies and the others are the goodies apparently - there has been much monologue-ing! He’s barely touched anything else 😂😂😂

Dd (13) loved everything she opened.
I got her the shut the box game that was all over tiktok a while a go. We've had a hilarious time this morning playing it and getting really excited when we win 😂

ZestFest · 25/12/2022 15:14

DS (almost 13) loved his Tinc flip clock (£10) which was just a stocking-filler and wasn't so mad about some of the other things I thought would be sure-fire winners.

PreVerbalGerbil · 25/12/2022 15:19

DS (soon to be 13) is over the moon with a greggs voucher, and a usb mini hoover I randomly picked up, rang family to tell them he’s using the worlds smallest hoover 🤣

DD Uni house has taken to playing games in the evening instead of telly.
She asked for some games-

Now all 20 somethings are immersed in a board game called Ticket to ride.
It's so nice instead of telly, phones etc

Mini Waffle Maker from Lakeland

I got one of these for my 10yr old. He loved it and made us all waffles for breakfast

moggerhanger · 25/12/2022 15:29

I got my kids a joint present of a download of a game called Outer Wilds. It was an afterthought, only cost a tenner in the sale. And they are taking turns, collaborating and discussing, and generally being really nice to each other. (This is increasingly unusual.) I'm drinking sherry and enjoying watching them play.

Mr and mrs potato head and a wooden train track for my 2 year old. Has been playing all day!

YukoandHiro · 25/12/2022 15:31

Make your own mask kit for 5 year olds. She's spent about 2 hours on it already

Lemonademoney · 25/12/2022 15:32

A talking hamster toy that was £8 from eBay! It repeats what you say and has had all of my children in hysterics all morning - best buy ever

SilverGlassHare · 25/12/2022 15:44

@Jollofrice i just got them in our local garden centre! I chucked the packaging already, sorry!

Oh dear OP, he seems to have one stuck to his face! 😂

We had some of these things a couple of years ago as 'table presents'. Great fun and the greasy marks are still visible on the walls! 😡

DH isn’t too happy about the marks on the wall 😂😂

Ds had a Bruder lorry with digger. Dd1 had a barbie camper and dd2 had a mouse in the house hotel. All 3 are great wins 😊 Oh and the 2 dogs loved their treats and turkey dinner 🤣

itsgettingweird · 25/12/2022 15:53

A blow up antler hoop game Grin

We opened those last night whilst doing our Xmas dinner and its provided more entertainment than Xmas day itself has 🤣🤣

Slinky! DD has spent two hours playing with it. It's been a worm, a skipping rope, hair, a telephone(?!), among others.

SilverGlassHare · 25/12/2022 16:14

Yes! Well done, @Blanketpolicy!

My DS (14) is also delighted with the Pepsi sodastream flavouring he got in his stocking!
That was a very last minute addition to balance out a curveball my DD threw me. Aside from an Under Armour crossbody bag, that was definitely the biggest stocking hit!

NotSorry · 25/12/2022 16:22

A games table as my DH is learning to play mahjong - they are currently all playing Catan on it while I lay on the sofa resting

Beanie with built in speakers, bought by DD2 for her big sis.

Flossiemoss · 25/12/2022 16:41

Ds 18 - newtons cradle, it’s clacking away and a twisty screwdriver thing.
ds 17 - smartphone holder for his desk.

NeverDropYourMooncup · 25/12/2022 16:45

TwatCat hasn't budged from his cardboard Chaise Longue all day, except for a brief interlude to murder a catnip trout. Other cat couldn't believe her paws when she realised I was wearing the softest, fluffiest oodie thing in the world - she lifted each one in turn to check what she was standing on before not bothering with her usual 35 minutes of clawing, dribbling, climbing up and down to my collarbone and shoulder and back before wandering off, but just dumping her fluffy arse straight down and not moving since.

I think I was bought it because he didn't quite realise I'd been actually googling dryrobes and he's had his eye on my hooded dressing gown for years - but it may have been a cunning plan to get the cat onto me instead of him everytime he sits on the sofa. And she clearly thinks it was bought for her benefit.

thismeansnothing · 25/12/2022 16:47

Sushi rolling mat, nori, sushi rice and rice vinegar for the 10 year old. She's been googling recipes all morning 🤣

NotQuiteUsual · 25/12/2022 16:52

Pokémon battle academy. My DD9 announced we were going to sit down and learn to play the Pokémon card game first thing. I wasn't feeling it tbh. But we a really had so, so much fun playing. Considering how many of the bastard cards I owned at her age it was about time I learnt.

Whycanineverever · 25/12/2022 17:01

I bought my 15yo a cardboard make your own record shop. It has little characters and loads of records to cut out. She loves it. Was an impulse purchase at a local art fair.
