Have plans to make a gingerbread house and a party food tea, but other than that nothing. Hoping for some inspiration

Wondering whether it’s worth a dash to the shop for bay leaves which I forgot - might try the local international shop on corner and if not there then forget it, don’t think I can face a supermarket.

Then between us DH and I will entertain DD plus:
Making cranberry and (probably bay-less) bread sauce
Prep veg
Tidy round and sweep floors as despite doing it all yesterday the house seems to be a total tip again

Hoping that will be done by lunch time. I think my niece and her dds might call by to drop some presents for DD at some point - though I’ve told her it’s really fine to leave it till we see her again after the big day so depends how hectic her own preparations are. Then a walk, christingle service and home for buffet tea and a bottle of champagne - just us and my aunt who is staying, some neighbours might call in.

Amongst that will do the reindeer food scattering, jingling of bells and leaving drink/ mince pie for Santa before DD hopefully goes to bed at not too ridiculous a time.

HippyChickMama · 23/12/2022 23:43

Dh is going to go out and get us all something nice for breakfast while dc and I start on the food prep. Hoover and mop. One load of washing left to do. Soup for lunch and then the Christmas Eve box will magically materialise containing new pyjamas and hot chocolate for the dc. We'll all have a hot chocolate while watching Father Christmas and then we may pop to the village pub for one drink. Buffet for dinner then showers and into pyjamas, mince pie etc. out for Santa, we'll read The Night Before Christmas and then bed for the dc. Once they're in bed, we'll bring the presents down and then watch the BBC Christmas ghost story with a glass of port, fill the stockings and then bed

purpleme12 · 23/12/2022 23:45

Watching things on Tele.
Playing.
Bake something.
That's it I think. I hope it's good enough.
Think I'll have to force myself to be happy this year

Orangeslemon · 23/12/2022 23:51

Laundry, tidying, wrapping the last few presents, picking up some last minute bits from the supermarket (think I need cheese, cream & tonic water) then hopefully I have time to paint my nails sparkly red with a tipple in front of a film!

Tinsella · 23/12/2022 23:54

Carols late morning.
Then home and having dinner and zonking out in front of the telly.
We’re all tired and need a proper rest.

Partyofthree · 23/12/2022 23:58

@Yoyooo good luck! My DD was due 9 years ago on Christmas Day! 🥰

Vicliz24 · 24/12/2022 00:02

I'm working then after that I'm going to the cemetery to lay Christmas flowers for those I have there , coming home to make three lots of custard for trifles. Final Hoover then cracking open the Baileys

ODFOx · 24/12/2022 00:03

Laundry, veg prep, wrapping,
Fish pie and all the greens I can source for dinner, in anticipation of 4 days of meat roasts.
If we have enough energy or time there's wood and walls to sand and caulk/silicon/paint to be applied over half the house.

LunaNova · 24/12/2022 00:06

I feel like we've got a manic day tomorrow.

We need to wash and remake the beds, have a quick tidy (which is often counterproductive as DD is a hurricane while we attempt to tidy), bake Christmas cupcakes, prep the lamb for Christmas day and then drive it to PILs (1 hour round trip) so it's there ready for the slow cooker to go on in the morning, give the dog a long walk, preorder our takeaway. Then my parents will come to ours around 5pm for the aforementioned takeaway and Christmas films, hopefully DD will go to sleep easily as we've got a few things to build once she's asleep!

I think divide and conquer is going to be our tactic to get through it all haha 😂 we'll be ready for a rest on Christmas day 😅

Partyofthree · 24/12/2022 00:07

Cook Turkey/prep other food
clean house & change over bedding for family staying
Go for early dinner with in-laws never normally make any plans for Xmas eve but we’ve not been out much since DH & I having the nasty virus going around.
wrap rest of family presents
crack open wine/Baileys & watch Die hard of bad Santa 🎅🏻

lionsandwhales · 24/12/2022 00:07

Dog walk, veg prep, last minute wrapping of Amazon parcels (if they arrive), Pantomime matinee. Always spend Xmas eve evening watching a movie with kids, we give them and Xmas eve box (pj’s and chocolates) so they put on the pjs, scoff chocolate and (hopefully) fall asleep on the sofa. Always start the movie so it finishes past their usual bedtime and hope for the best.

Thearex · 23/12/2022 21:44

DP is at work till 7pm, a final tidy & clean, drop a few gifts off.

Then have, at the last minute, arranged to go for afternoon cocktails with my friend (We are going to be sensible).

Home for freezer tapas tea and to watch the greatest Christmas movies ever made (Die Hard 1&2-obs)

That's the danger signal right there - we are going to be sensible!! My friends and I say that every time! Enjoy!

caringcarer · 24/12/2022 00:21

Drying washing, wrapping, collecting a new car (pre used), wrapping, cleaning kitchen and more wrapping. Cooking a boiled ham and mashed potato and veg for dinner. Add in a glass or 2 of good wine to get me through the wrapping. Thankfully I finished the shopping today and got everything I needed/wanted except Satsumas.

namechanged221 · 24/12/2022 00:24

Christmas Eve parkrun then visiting the cemetery to take flowers for my mum

MaydinEssex · 24/12/2022 00:24

Cooking my joints of meat for Christmas day, and preparing vegetables, I'll also parboil my potatoes and put them into the tray to bake on the day.

Fofftwenty21 · 24/12/2022 00:28

Most Christmas Eves we are travelling somewhere so looking forward to getting up late and spending tomorrow afternoon drinking mulled wine and watching Its a Wonderful Life at 1.25pm at C4.

No grand plans beyond that 🙂

Beansthemusicalfruit · 24/12/2022 00:49

Lay in!! Then husband's cooking us all breakfast. After we'll be taking the kids out for a walk/play somewhere, home for buffet lunch. We love our board games so maybe play for a bit then Nativity service at church. Christmas Eve treats and mince pie and carrots left out for Santa and the Reindeer. Christmas film once PJ's on, then they have the night before Christmas story read at bedtime, watch Santas online journey. Once they have gone down we have drinks with the family , scoff crap, probably watch another film while we wait for Santa to arrive..... 😉 Merry Christmas all

Ohdofuckofdear · 24/12/2022 00:56

Giving the neighbours they're Christmas cards then picking up the 3 last presents for friends and flowers for my Mum and Dad.
Going to the cemetery to see my Mum and Dad and then going to visit my Auntie and Uncle to give them they're presents and card.

Dropping off presents and cards to friends and then back home for lunch.

Back at home I have 2 bits to make for Christmas dinner(it saves me room in the cooker on Christmas day) I'm really behind this year.Whilst I'm doing that my DH will bath the 2 dogs and clean the house.

An hour or 2 to sit down and watch something nice with the DC and then my big brother will come round to exchange presents and cards and then in the evening we'll have a take away and a drink or 2 and once the DC are in bed I can finish wrapping the stocking fillers and fill the stockings.

I am never ever getting this behind again!

Good Luck to everyone else that has to brave the shops tomorrow 🎄

Sodullincomparison · 24/12/2022 01:01

DH keeps talking about his to do list for tomorrow. ( he has done not One thing so far) so I said what is on this very busy list for tomorrow.

go to the tip
pick up turkey
pick up my mum

that is it!!! busy man. I adore this capable man 362 days of the year. There is something about the next three days that renders him useless. He will cook the dinner though.

We have dinner buffet for ten which I will prepare and Christmas Eve fun for DD4. We will have a gingerbread house competition.

I have hidden the sellotape and wrapping paper so will sit back and watch DH start to panic as he realises he hasn’t wrapped anything yet but won’t want to reveal this…

Christmas Eve- what family joy! 😂

Namechange303333311 · 24/12/2022 01:32

We’re going to the cinema then I’ll start preparing the food and do a bit of last minute wrapping. Usually have loads to do on Christmas Eve so I’m looking forward to a relaxing one.

Whendovescry03 · 24/12/2022 07:27

Picking up some fresh pastries for breakfast, buying some flowers, welcoming more relatives in, eating Christmas Dinner (yes we do that today), probably watch a Christmas film and then I need to finish the wrapping once DC has gone to bed! I've slept terribly but I'm really looking forward to the day :)

Theoldwoman · 24/12/2022 07:38

It’s 3:30pm Christmas Eve.

I was up early and went to Aldi, Coles, Reject Shop and the butcher.
All done and home by 8:30 am.
Have washed all the bedding and hung out.
Clothes in now, then a load of delicates and everything is upto date.
Still to do today:
Drop DD off at friends to go to concert.
Pick up cooked chook on way home.
Make jelly.
Vacuum.
Make up beds with fresh sheets.
Watching Love Actually.

Going to neighbours house tonight for Christmas catch up.

TheChosenTwo · 24/12/2022 07:42

I’ve just made the chocolate torte so that’s now in the fridge to set.
this morning I’m going to get some washing on, finish wrapping presents and clean the bathrooms and toilets.
going to convince ds to come and walk my friends dog with me to get him out for some fresh air and I’ve got some presents to deliver too so these can be combined.
Need to bring some logs in from the log store.
going to visit a friend in a hospice and take her a card and present.
This afternoon I’m going to hoover the house again, drop dd2 at work,
Could do with a quick trip to the shops as I realise I didn’t get the earrings dd1 asked for but if I don’t make it it’s not the end of the world.
We’re hosting Christmas so it’s always a crazy busy day, Dh is now in the kitchen prepping and will be there most of the day. Making pizzas for dinner.

Soccermumamir · 24/12/2022 07:58

Cooking the meat for tomorrow, tidy up, watch films, eat and drink 😊

Freesia41 · 24/12/2022 08:21

@Yoyooo Good luck 😊

Going on a Christmas trail at a local country park this morning to hopefully wear the DC out. Also has a huge playground so double activity!

Back for snacky lunch, then games/playing/tidying this afternoon.
