Waitrose - no meat being delivered…..

I’m just fucked off and wanting a moan
Ordered a rib of beef from their Entertaining range months ago, to be delivered this evening as the Christmas meat. Got the email about what is being delivered and guess what? No beef! So no meat for Christmas Day, 10 people coming, a house to get clean and children to entertain and now have to try and find a joint of beef.

Also not being delivered - Christmas pudding, Yule log, cheese, booze…. Basically we have to now go and do a full shop. It’s fine, we can, DH is home and we can drive, we are lucky…..

If they’d even said sorry I wouldn’t mind, but the woman I spoke to in customer services was the rudest most dismissive person I think I’ve ever dealt with in a Customer Service context. I’m in a mood now and I don’t want to be, it’s Christmas!!!

Because I don’t want to? I’ve been getting supermarket deliveries for about 15 years.
I don’t understand why people go in.

Why do people go in? Oh I don't know, to avoid the problems stated by most of the replies on this thread?!

For most of the year I don’t have a problem.
Also, there could potentially be missing items in store as well. This way I got to stay in my house.

andwhy · 23/12/2022 23:03

We also ordered from Waitrose entertainment range; went into store yesterday to collect it to be told ' your order isn't here' our supplier didn't deliver it. That was it, no apology, No offer to help solve the problem, they really didn't care. Not much food on the shelves either. Ended up in M&S late last night where luckily I managed to get everything. Waitrose was really rubbish!

hiredandsqueak · 23/12/2022 23:05

I ordered from Ocado it came Tuesday, no missing items use by dates 28th on Turkey, pigs in blankets etc so very pleased. Didn't order from Morrisons despite the delivery pass as they have been shocking all year. Nipped in Tesco this evening and it was dead but the shelves were bare apart from an incredible display of frozen sprouts and loo rolls.

PurpleButterflyWings · 23/12/2022 23:19

Completely unhelpful post alert. I can't imagine why anybody would put in an order/delivery for virtually their full Christmas shop, include all the meat, veg, desserts, savouries, nuts, fruit, the booze and everything they need..... to be delivered on Christmas Eve Eve (or Christmas Eve like some people do,) especially when they have ten people coming. It's an absolute foregone conclusion that some of it's going to be missing, and some stuff is going to be wrong. Why do people do this to themselves?

Me and DH got everything for Christmas from the shops, ourselves. Everyone I know does at Christmas. All our food, booze, desserts, frozen veg, biscuits, cake, chocolate, all the buffet stuff we need for our Boxing day family buffet etc, and virtually everything we needed ourselves from the shops two to four weeks ago (and the bit of fresh we have, we got 2 days ago.)

Turkey is a frozen one and we got it 2 weeks ago. Why anybody would depend on a shop delivering everything, on the evening of 23rd of December and depend on everything being there just eludes me. I don't know anyone in real life who does this, only Mumsnet.

I know I sound smug. I don't care. I really feel some people bring this on themselves tbh. And I don't buy the 'what about those with no car' argument. Most people have transport/a car, or shops closeby. Including the OP who says she and her husband have a car and are now going out Christmas Eve (tomorrow,) get everything. (Good luck with that!!!)

There is a shortage of eggs because of Avian flu, supply chain is precarious, so worth ensuring accepting subs if you're default is no subs.

Thankfully I had a customer the other day who gives us eggs every year in exchange for discount Grin we were very grateful to receive a huge amount!!

FlamingoSocks · 23/12/2022 23:53

Well DH went out like a Real Man to hunt down some meat and came back triumphant, we now have beef and a Turkey crown. Also successfully gathered booze, cheese and we now have everything EXCEPT Christmas pudding, they didn’t have any normal ones so he had to get some bastardised version with biscuit crumbs on.
We are actually out and about tomorrow in a London so I am going to try and pick one up then. Also my ham came out absolutely delicious and I opened the Bargain Thread Hotel Chocolat Wreath and watched Motherland.

Waitrose are going to get a very sternly
worded email from me when I have time, we have about £150 in vouchers we need to spend there but then will head back to Ocado or Morrisons.

I have Waitrose and Ocado delivering between 11-12 tomorrow. Both have let me down with the joint in previous years. Once with Ocado, I gave them merry hell as a rib of beef was missing. This was when they were associated with Waitrose. An hour after my call, the manager of the local Waitrose was on the doorstep with a rib of beef, and Ocado refunded the original one. £80.

Waitrose also tried to replace a Christmas pork joint with pork loin steaks!
I managed to get some rib eye steaks in flash sales this week with Ocado. If they have missed my joint, we will be having steak with all the trimmings!

TheaBrandt · 24/12/2022 05:47

God you must like living on the edge. Maybe I’m paranoid but Christmas food I buy in person a few days before.

Falalalalalal · 24/12/2022 06:46

I made the mistake of getting a christmas eve delivery slot for this morning. I normally fet the food in a couple of days beforehand, but grabbed the christmas eve morning slot this time. Never again. Got an email from Morrisons at 8.30 last night telling me my entire starter, and the potatoes were out of stock. So spent last night walking to Morrisons at 10pm to see what they had in stock, thankfully the shelves were full and I got everything.

Next time the delivery slot will be for 2-3 days earlier!

knittingaddict · 24/12/2022 07:23

Ocado order had 1 sub (skimmed milk) and two missing items (M and S Irish cream truffles and camembert). Not too bad I guess.

M and S didn't have the truffles in store either.

Libre55 · 24/12/2022 07:27

Yes, Waitrose are a fucking joke. Just got the email about my order and half of it is missing. Christmas pudding, brandy butter, mince pies, cream, and the Entertainment order of fresh stuffing that has been on order for the last 2 months. Thank god I bought the cheese from Fortnums so we have a course after dinner. Never again. Still waiting for the Ocado confirmation.

Waitrose are a bunch of wankers. Won’t be shopping there again.

NCagainandagainand · 24/12/2022 08:02

Pretty pleased with Ocado - three substitutions for different pack sizes and two non-Christmasy / non-essential things missing. The posh chicken and pigs in blankets were ordered from the butcher ages ago, who delivered too.

(We have someone very vulnerable to covid, flu etc. at home so a heaving supermarket wouldn't be the best idea right now)

Same here. I hate supermarket shopping the rest of the year so there's no way I'm going in at Christmas!

That’s really crappy. Entertaining orders aren’t like a regular shop. If they couldn’t fulfil them they should have said well enough in advance, they must have known.

I get why you think ordering two months ago secures your order. But it really doesn’t. It’s what’s available on the day. Waitrose are live branches not dark warehouses who doesn’t have customers. Baring entertaining orders which ‘should’ be guaranteed baring supplier issues.

BeverleyMacca1 · 24/12/2022 13:10

Excuse grammar. Cremant kicking in 🤣

Raddyradiator · 24/12/2022 13:25

Sainsburys delivered everything apart from our turkey. So pissed off because the email didn't say anything about it being substituted/not available. Our local butcher was open this morning and had a giant turkey breast weighing 6kg and costing an eye watering £78. We had to get it as we are hosting for 10. It doesn't even look like a nice bit of meat but all the local supermarkets were out of meat. I'm ordering locally next year.

Mine is delivered from the Coulsdon warehouse, not a branch, I asked the driver. My entertaining items should have been delivered.I had to confirm them by 15th December. I could not cancel after then, so they should know how many of each item they need. And it seems widespread, so clearly they don’t have an effective ordering system.

Growlybear83 · 24/12/2022 15:08

I think all the missing entertaining orders must have turned up late to my branch of Waitrose. I had to pop out for a couple of things I had forgotten and store was awash with the big green entertaining boxes, all marked down to half price. They had loads of turkeys left as well, and were just marking them down to half price when I was there.

Si1ver · 23/12/2022 18:57

My M&S order tried to give me a smashed £35 Snowglobe Dessert. I'm having to make one this evening. This will teach me to be smug about ordering everything.

Mine was cracked when I picked my order up yesterday morning...they gave it to me for free plus threw in a free dessert of my choice. I didn't even ask them too so was very impressed. They were lovely about it.

Stressedmum1966 · 24/12/2022 17:54

That’s odd I thought the entertaining items were pre order, they cannot be cancelled and they know when they sell out so no-one can order anymore.

My delivery was fine this morning at 6am everything ordered was delivered but it wasn’t a big order. I have learnt from previous experience not to rely on a huge delivery so close to Christmas so I pop each morning the week before to get what I need & order meat from the butcher.

We had to pick up an order from M&S at 7.30am & for the first time in years that was really well organised.

Sorry you have had a stressful day.

LuckyLuckyWoman · 24/12/2022 18:26

The only thing missing from my Tesco delivery was a box of biscuits. Picked them up at the local lidl no problem.

Tesco did deliver all the wine though, and it's going down a treat after a long day at work today

Merry Christmas everyone

sydsmum · 24/12/2022 18:35

My Waitrose entertaining order which was placed 6 weeks ago arrived on Wednesday with 3 items missing. This has happened 2 years in a row, so back to M&S next year.
