Waitrose - no meat being delivered…..

I’m just fucked off and wanting a moan
Ordered a rib of beef from their Entertaining range months ago, to be delivered this evening as the Christmas meat. Got the email about what is being delivered and guess what? No beef! So no meat for Christmas Day, 10 people coming, a house to get clean and children to entertain and now have to try and find a joint of beef.

Also not being delivered - Christmas pudding, Yule log, cheese, booze…. Basically we have to now go and do a full shop. It’s fine, we can, DH is home and we can drive, we are lucky…..

If they’d even said sorry I wouldn’t mind, but the woman I spoke to in customer services was the rudest most dismissive person I think I’ve ever dealt with in a Customer Service context. I’m in a mood now and I don’t want to be, it’s Christmas!!!

Same thing happened to us, although ours was a collection order. DH went to pick up ore ordered rib of beef for 12 on 23/12. Didn't have it! "None arrived" they said! "What. We ordered it months ago?" He caused a strop and the butcher in store 'found' him a vacuum packed piece. Knocked £20 off too. But I'll never order from Waitrose again. Too risky.

I emailed Waitrose and complained and they offered a £20 gift voucher. So for the five people for whom Christmas lunch was totally spoiled that’s £4 each? Not even enough to buy a new meal; maybe a frozen pizza each. Piss poor Waitrose. They have now lost £100+ Weekly shop. No way am I handing over £5k a year to them when they hold their customers in such contempt.

@Libre55 I don't blame you that a is really poor offer of compensation . I think they really believe customers won't go elsewhere .

It’s better than Tesco. They didn’t turn up at all, waited up really late too for them as they are often really late. Tried to WhatsApp/ tweet them- no response.

In the morning I got told they would refund it, no apology or compensation offered at all. They also said they will not inform customers if they aren’t delivering as they don’t have the resources to do this. I cancelled my delivery pass. Went back to Morrisons who give their drivers phones to contact you if they are early/ late or have issues.

I complained to Waitrose, and told them the £20 voucher @£4 per person was insulting.. They have replied with another £50, in addition to the £20. At least £70 will buy us a lovely Sunday roast and celebration for Easter!

I can't imagine why anybody would put in an order/delivery for virtually their full Christmas shop, include all the meat, veg, desserts, savouries, nuts, fruit, the booze and everything they need..... to be delivered on Christmas Eve Eve (or Christmas Eve like some people do,) especially when they have ten people coming. It's an absolute foregone conclusion that some of it's going to be missing, and some stuff is going to be wrong. Why do people do this to themselves?

I've had pretty much my entire Christmas food shop for 12 people delivered by Ocado on the morning of the 23rd December for 10 years. I've never had any significant problems at all. This way I can start putting the shop together well ahead, then keep adding to it and taking things away as I make up my mind about the different meals needed over the Christmas period, people's plans change, I select recipes etc. I check out many, many times before I'm done!! There's no way I could cope with doing it all in person! I don't even do that on a normal week so I don't know my way around the supermarket well. Sometimes I buy a few store cupboard items ahead of time, get some stuff from COOK, or order meat from the local butcher, but often I don't.

We had a NYE party and I was sick of online grocery shopping by then and fancied getting out of the house so I went to the supermarket. It was quite fun for a change but it took me ages and I only got a few nibbles and drinks!

I have used Ocado for main Christmas shop for last couple of years and not had any major things missing or substituted. I get mine for the morning of the 23rd which still leaves time for a quick dash to the supermarket if they do happen to have anything missing. Turkey and joint of beef from local butcher though.

When I have shopped at the local supermarket on the 23rd there was always things they were out of stock of- usually cranberries, mincemeat for mince pies, figs, mini cheddars, fresh gravy etc. and Ive then had to do a dash round all the supermarkets in the area looking for them in stock.
