Turkey which says feeds 12
gammon which says feeds 9
over 100 pigs in blankets
plus all the usual sides

I'd have said that would serve 15 easily and wouldn't get more. But we are not huge meat eaters. We would only have turkey or gammon not both and I would just trust the suggested servings number (with just a little to spare). Then 2-3 pigs in blankets per person. Plenty of veg though.

Yesthatismychildsigh · 22/12/2022 11:28

I’d say 10 with leftover pigs.

midgetastic · 22/12/2022 11:41

I have cooked lots of Christmas dinners

20 with leftovers I would guess

I've always found that turkey portions are generous and allow for leftovers. So if it says feeds 12 it feeds 12 for a main course plus at least half as many sandwiches later.
Gammon would probably feed the number it says on the pack if it is the only meat being served but twice as many if served with the turkey.
Pigs in blankets I would allow 4 per person plus extra to have cold.
How many are you feeding and do you want leftovers? Cold meat and bubble and squeak on Boxing Day is the best meal over Christmas!

Really? I'm the opposite. It will say 'serves10' and it will be for 5 of us with leftovers!

I think it was 5.5kg? I’d ordered a 6.6-6.8 kg one and I know it was over a kg smaller. Getting to it involves emptying a lot of other stuff out of the fridge so can’t check just now

A 6-7kg turkey would not feed 15-18 people. It would be around 10 people

Us too, it really is the mumsnet chicken, must be tiny portions.

Benjispruce4 · 22/12/2022 12:51

OP has gammon too, so not just the turkey. Plus the 100 pigs in blankets!

I wouldn't say we eat small portions - I think I'm quite generous, but we do always have sausagemeat stuffing balls with the turkey. A medium chicken in this house only feeds four maximum with stuffingnand plenty of veg.

I agree, and my appetite is very small, though the others eat normal portions.

That can’t be right on turkey op. I got a 5,4kg one from markies, says it feeds 6 to 10, looking at it, it is 6 max unless small slices

there is no way you can feed 15 people with that. And generally folks don’t think it’s turkey or ham, they would eat both.

for me the meat is really under catered.

Yeah I might have that wrong. It looks big. Just not big enough for 15. Definitely says feeds 12 on it anyway. I now have more turkey so we’ll be fine!

Although according to this it would be right 🤷🏻‍♀️
Anyway I have got a turkey crown as well that serves 9 (there wasn’t much choice!) so there should be plenty!

I'd cook a chicken too rather than more turkey. Plenty of trimmings and you would be fine with what you have but if you can, why not do extra meat
