Turkey which says feeds 12
gammon which says feeds 9
over 100 pigs in blankets
plus all the usual sides

20

HelloIsItYouImLookingFor · 22/12/2022 05:52

No more than 6. You never get anywhere near as many portions from turkey and ham as they say on the packs

Scotty12 · 22/12/2022 06:04

8-10 but way too many pigs in blankets…

THisbackwithavengeance · 22/12/2022 06:13

About 100 in MN land but in RL about 8.

Everybody will want a decentish portion of both meats. The pigs in blankets are fillers to make the plate look nice. You can have the rest in sandwiches on Boxing Day.

PatientlyWaiting21 · 22/12/2022 06:29

10-12 based on the meat, pigs in blankets about 25 😂

teezletangler · 22/12/2022 06:32

I always find many people eat far less meat than you anticipate. With enough sides, I think you could feed around 20.

snowlolo · 22/12/2022 06:35

I would say a turkey that says it feeds 12 would actually feed 8-9 at Christmas, and a gammon for 9 would feed 6-7.

So I'd err on the side of caution and say it may feed 14 (assuming plenty of sides!)

Ocrumbs · 22/12/2022 06:43

21 people

Ocrumbs · 22/12/2022 06:45

People will manage to share what's there so don't feel you have to go out and buy more meat it's expensive! Just make sure when you serve it up its cut small

Orormno · 22/12/2022 07:06

Thanks everyone. Need it to feed 15 meat eaters. Had ordered turkey to feed 15-18 and gammon to feed 12 but got smaller of both (had assumed that as they were festive food to order I’d get the right size). Pigs in blankets is the right number for who I’m feeding (5-6 each and a tub in the fridge to graze on 😆-they are the small ones!).
I think I’m going to get more turkey but maybe chance the gammon?

I normally get the meat from the butchers and it’s always been really generous but the supermarket was so much cheaper this year that I couldn’t justify using the butchers.

8 to 10. If turkey and gammon are for the same meal, I would not want to run out so a guest could not have some of either.

TenoringBehind · 22/12/2022 07:16

I think it’s more than plenty for 15 (and I’m NOT one of those MN chicken that feeds a family of 6 for 4 days people).

Marthaandthemuffins · 21/12/2022 21:50

20?

That’s a whole load of pigs in blankets!

Depends how much you LOVE pigs in blankets! 😉Not that I am a huge fan or anything, you know... [wanders off to check how many dozens I have and considers whether to buy more]

Ocrumbs · 22/12/2022 07:19

It will do 12 easy. I assume you're having potatos and veg too

Ocrumbs · 22/12/2022 07:20

Oh wait 15.

Um.. should be OK maybe more pigs in blankets 😂

Sososocold · 22/12/2022 07:29

I'd say about 10-12 people if all want to have both meats. If you have a few who will only have turkey or gammon you could get about 15. I would serve the meat sliced so they just pick slices rather than self carve.

If you are doing starters and plenty of sides you will be fine.

Slightly disappointed we haven't had a prediction from the MN chicken people who will be able to tell you there is enough food there to feed half a town for a week.

rookiemere · 22/12/2022 07:34

I'd say 10 and with your update, agreed get more turkey but not more gammon, as people will feel hard done by if they don't get turkey, but not so much about no gammon. I'm assuming you've got loads of stuffing as well, if not I'd buy some of the supermarket trays of the ones with pork meat in it, they always go down well.

From bitter experience as the cook, if there is something that's a little bit short i.e. gammon - grab yourself a slice before all the gannets get stuck in. I'll never forget the Christmas I got no pigs in blankets as greedy niece had taken 20.

pigonalipstick · 22/12/2022 07:50

This thread 😂you EASILY have enough for 15.

Who is eating more than 3 full portions of meat, 7 pigs in blankets, stuffing, roast potatoes, veg etc

Autumninnewyork · 22/12/2022 07:51

20 - that must be a big turkey. The people who say 12 😆😆😆

Autumninnewyork · 22/12/2022 07:53

only buy more if you want shitloads of leftovers!

MigsandTiggs · 22/12/2022 07:56

Thanks everyone. Need it to feed 15 meat eaters.
It should easily feed 15 (I have experience of cooking for 300) depending on the amount of vegetables. Plus you will presumably be having a starter as well.

For example, I serve corn fritters, roast spuds, asparagus casserole, copper penny carrots, stir fried sprouts with chestnuts and lardons. So five different veg dishes, whichever way you want to cook them. Plus a salad (cranberry and orange coleslaw). There's not much room on the plate for hefty meat helpings even with just a spoonful of each veg plus the stuffing. IYSWIM.

Talipesmum · 22/12/2022 08:13

OP how heavy is the turkey?

Adviceneeded200 · 22/12/2022 08:27

It's the turkey that's lacking but you have plenty of meat, per se. There's loads of PIB you are likely to have a lot spare. So you could just expect people to add more of those to their plate if they want more meat.

We were laughing last night about our "green turkey" year. I opened the fresh turkey it was green in places and stank. We ended up making more pigs in blankets (we had about 60 for 6 of us), two duck breasts and a large chicken. Plus we rattled up as many sides as we could possibly manage.

We got the turkey money back and a story for life.

So what you have will do if it has to, unless you want to make sure everyone has plenty of turkey in particular.

PoinsettiaPosturing · 22/12/2022 08:29

8-10 unless there are LOADS of good sides like red cabbage, pancetta sprouts, cauliflower cheese, roasties etc
