'With all the trimmings'

I couldn't even type that without my teeth itching.

I'm sure they'll be plenty more...Smile

Excessive mention of family members who have died and how it's extra sad at Christmas

What a shit thing to say. Maybe the person died at Christmas time, maybe they loved Christmas, maybe they are missed more at this time of year because family get together.

Nobody should be berated for talking about missing a loved one at Christmas.

‘Picky bits’ 🤮

Ooh send all the picky bits to me I love them 😍

Ch3wylemon · 19/12/2022 10:27

People who start planning Christmas in July. Thank you but I want to enjoy the rest of summer and autumn without thinking about it.

Adults getting over excited. I'm looking forward to nice food and spending time with extended family but I can't get all squeeeee about it.

Every year, as our Christmas present, getting large, garishly framed photos of the DGC. We have already felt gloomily through the wrapping paper that this year’s delight is going to be a wall hung triptych.
yes, I know I’m a grumpy old so and so!

Sorry but the image of you feeling your present through the wrapping paper ‘gloomily’ has really made me chuckle!

Agree with so many of these, and I’m generally a positive Christmas-loving person.

The absolute worst: the boy/this one, my world/my little family, crimbo, spuds, lucky boy/girly (about their own children).

It strikes me that 99% of these complaints stem from people following people on social media who don't think like them. I'm curious why you do that - to see family photos I guess?

I avoid all the sentiment and phrasing that gives me the ick by making sure that all my social media is an echo chamber of like-minded folks and denying the existence of anyone who doesn't speak and think exactly like I do. I also fast forward the ads and only watch television that has been pre-vetted for me by the Guardian.

Works a treat Wink

I am serious- I have a six year old child and lots of contemporaries with similar-aged children. I have not seen one single "Elf on the Shelf" social media post.

It's all snowy walks in all-weather clothing and chat about food banks.

Shgytfgtf111 · 19/12/2022 10:29

'Have you got your decs up yet?'

No, as its November so I shall be putting the decorations up in December.

Crimbo. False jollity, ghastly word

Omg this!!!! Yuck!

TerraNostra · 19/12/2022 10:31

Sorry, to clarify, I mean chat from people who are reminding others to donate to food banks and volunteer, and that is obviously a good thing.

SockGoddess · 19/12/2022 10:31

'Chrimbo'

I do say Chrimbo but only in a spirit of sarcastic cynical gallows humour.

I hope people realise Grin

JamSandle · 19/12/2022 10:34

Matching Christmas pajamas. Only because it seems so contrived and often for social media. I appreciate for many it's a tradition.

MingeofDeath · 19/12/2022 10:36

@mam0918

The majority of cases of type 2 diabetes are caused by lifestyle factors, mostly being obese.

tiredfriday · 19/12/2022 10:36

Christmas themed items FOR CHRISTMAS! Just no.

VickyEadieofThigh · 19/12/2022 10:36

Oh God, YES to the poster who mentioned the phrase "washed down with". It makes me queasy.

Also: the Elf, Christmas Eve boxes (because the mega pile of presents on 25th is NOT ENOUGH), Advent calendars that aren't simple pictures behind windows telling the Christmas story. Children do not need an extra bit of chocolate a day (substitute all the other expensive shite that modern calendars can contain).

But can I make a pitch for the ultimate one? "The Big Day". It's ONE fucking DAY. I once saw a Good Housekeeping 'countdown to "The Big Day" that started in early November.

Bits
Just popping out for the last few bits.
What else can I buy DD, I still want to get her a few more bits.
I hate the word bits.

Thank you for this. I got slated on here for asking what the fuck 'bits' are

MoirasSaggyBundles · 19/12/2022 10:38

Santa Baby - sung by anyone, but particularly by Kylie Minogue.

Annabel073 · 19/12/2022 10:39

Including 'posh' within the descriptor, e.g. 'posh crisps'. Purchasing from Waitrose or M&S does increase the status of your food in any way - it's still supermarket shite.

SockGoddess · 19/12/2022 10:39

Oh Santa Baby has reminded me how I irate I get if I have to hear Buble.

Annabel073 · 19/12/2022 10:39

Does NOT that should say. Even typing this has irritated me.

EatYourVegetables · 19/12/2022 07:33

“Prezzies.”

More widely:

“My 14 year old got told by friends that Santa doesn’t exist, AIBU to send him a forged letter from Santa and also have a stern word with the friend?”

Christmas eve boxes.

”The kids are getting the presents they wanted but it doesn’t look like much wrapped so what mountains of plastic tat can I buy to make it look bigger?”

Just generally rampart consumerism.

Unless your child has additional needs there's no way they believe in Santa at 14 lol

MoirasSaggyBundles · 19/12/2022 10:40

Yes, Buble can fuck off too

TalkSomeSense1 · 19/12/2022 10:41

gettingolderandgrumpier · 19/12/2022 08:02

Are you all ready for Christmas? Argh
also just general giddiness from adults in the run up to Christmas especially those that don’t have children I mean why ? I know I’m a Scrooge but it makes me cringe .

So if you don't have children you aren't allowed to get excited about spending time with those you love, eating turkey, having fun, relaxing?? Golly!

MingeofDeath · 19/12/2022 10:41

@grannycake

Your Val Doonican reference made me laugh. Do you also remember New Year TV the White Heather Club? Dreadful programme. There was always a Stanley Baxter special as well

whattodo1975 · 19/12/2022 10:41

Making a big proclamation about how you aren't sending Christmas cards but instead giving to charity.

Ericaequites · 19/12/2022 10:41

Homemade hot chocolate made with milk is quite good. Gifting annoys me, but turning nouns into verbs generally does.

tiredfriday · 19/12/2022 10:44

Yea please say Type 2 diabetes when you’re talking about eating a load of shite giving you diabetes. It’s just a little annoyance for people who have a T1 child or relative.
