'With all the trimmings'

I couldn't even type that without my teeth itching.

I'm sure they'll be plenty more...Smile

Humbug!!!!

Frogdinner · 20/12/2022 22:26

Yes yes to the whole family wearing matching PJs but what really annoys me is when they tag the relevant supermarket in the pic, hoping for photo deals or whatever.

NeilHamburger · 20/12/2022 22:28

Matching family pyjamas
picky bits
Christmas Eve boxes

I have no problem with the elves. I think some people who don’t do it spend an awful lot of time harping on about it. Takes me 2 minutes tops each night and brings a lot of happiness.

Christmas 'lunch'
I am also cringing at most of these but Christmas lunch is just Christmas lunch. What am I missing?

I'm not from the UK but I suspect a lot of the gripes on this thread could be British class-based, or I could be completely mad and wrong.

Calphurnia88 · 20/12/2022 22:34

ReneBumsWombats · 20/12/2022 22:13

They're considered to be working class.

Really?

I assumed the dislike of Christmas Eve boxes was borne out of consumerism i.e. yet another thing parents feel pressured to spend money on at Christmas. Is that not correct?

AngelicaElizaAndPeggy · 20/12/2022 22:35

Elf on the feckin shelf.

'on 19th December, elf went for a cheeky sit in the outside bin. I wonder when/if we will see him again?!'

You are absolutely bang on. This is always how these threads go.

swappingwellies · 20/12/2022 22:37

Forgive the Christmassy ignorance ick but has the quintessential stocking been replaced with the Christmas Eve box 😱

AngelicaElizaAndPeggy · 20/12/2022 22:38

Yes Yes to festive nails too. They can go and sit in the bin next to the elf.

As can the Christmas edition of Mrs browns boys. In fact most of the Christmas day telly shite.

And perfect, colour co-ordinated trees with one-tear-only Decs. Get in the bin too. (except not - reuse them next year)

Ugzbugz · 20/12/2022 22:45

From our family to yours 🙄

Gingerbreadhouseofhorror · 20/12/2022 22:48

People who say they’re not sending cards but sending money to charity instead. Fuck off! What you mean is you can’t be arsed to write cards. I want my card! Stop being all smug and self-righteous with the money you’d earmarked to ME! I want my card!! Send your other money to charity and shut the fuck up about it.

Gingerbreadhouseofhorror · 20/12/2022 22:49

Christmas boxes are hated because they’re not a tradition. Someone invented them recently and they caught on. They’re a symbol of crass commercialism and social media inspired competitiveness. They can fuck right off.

HotMess21 · 20/12/2022 22:53

I'm aware it has been mentioned by PP but "Are you ready for Christmas?" really riles me. What does it even mean??! 😡

Santa Baby - sung by anyone, but particularly by Kylie Minogue

Love the Eartha Kitt version, though. She doesn't sing it, she purrs it.

The Miss Piggy version is best 😁

ThreeLittleDots · 20/12/2022 22:58

ILs and their kids attacking their stash of presents all at once like a bunch of rabid hyenas, barely muttering a thank you.

People getting too drunk and acting like twats.

People who look at you oddly as you wish them a Merry Christmas on Jan 5th.

Annabel073 · 20/12/2022 23:18

TheLadyOfHay · 20/12/2022 21:42

I will throw into the mix, ‘shit loads of bubble and squeak’. My DSis comes out with this gem every year on Boxing Day having done far too many vegetables for the day befores Christmas lunch. The thought makes me want to heave

Do people seriously eat this crap?

Lopoem · 20/12/2022 23:21

@HarrietSchulenberg On the other side of this though is that my oldest DD's birthday is the end of December. She is of an age where family want to see her on the day and she also wants a party with her friends. I find it the busiest time of the year anyway. Then trying to make sure my Dd's birthday is special and that she isn't left feeling she gets a lesser day just because of when she was born is stressful. So I do try to be very organised and get the things I can get out of the way very early.

OldFan · 20/12/2022 21:28

People who moan about consumerism. Smile They tend to not be poor either- I think the lower someone's socioeconomic class the more they try to go all out for their kids at Xmas financially.

Yes. Because you can't afford lovely trips or treats during the year so want a special Christmas.

Save the trees.

Yes!

Museya15 · 20/12/2022 23:52

Picture of family in matching pyjamas with the title "feeling blessed!"🤮

TortolaParadise · 20/12/2022 23:56

Lame jokes from crackers!

nettie434 · 20/12/2022 23:59

Chrimbo is my ick word and I'd be delighted never to hear 'Do they know it's Christmas?' ever again. Embarrassingly, I love blue lights and I'm not sure I could even tell the difference between warm white and ice white ones.

Museya15 · 21/12/2022 00:00

Just popping to Marksies to get my picky bits!

Idlechitchat · 21/12/2022 00:05

I must admit I did matching PJs once when my DS was little (he loved it), but he has been wearing the ones that were mine this December as he is now taller than me, so we aren’t wasteful 😇😉😆

I know a couple in their 40s that don’t have any children, who wear matching PERSONALISED pyjamas on Christmas Eve and post photos on social media 🫣😮😆 This is probably on an ick level with those who post photos of present piles etc.

Most of the other Christmassy stuff doesn’t really offend me (said as I lounge around in my reindeer PJs after drinking the Christmas Day Baileys). Have loved reading this thread if made me laugh alot. Merry Christmas everyone!!
