'With all the trimmings'

I couldn't even type that without my teeth itching.

I'm sure they'll be plenty more...Smile

The word ick 😱

TheFallenMadonna · 19/12/2022 17:14

"Ick" itself is surely in the same lexicon as "picky bits" and "my little family".

Ladyof2022 · 19/12/2022 17:15

"crimbo".

AdditionalCharacter · 19/12/2022 17:16

I hate the word host/hosting as in "I'm hosting Christmas". Makes you sound like a right knob.

Benjispruce4 · 19/12/2022 17:17

@AdditionalCharacter easier to say one word than “I’m having guests over to mine for Christmas dinner.”

DesertIslandCondiment · 19/12/2022 17:17

YukoandHiro · 19/12/2022 17:13

@DesertIslandCondiment I thought it came from "got the ick" which is suddenly developing a revulsion towards your sexual partner. So not really a teen thing?

It is a stupid word.

AdditionalCharacter · 19/12/2022 17:18

@Benjispruce4 or simply saying I'm making Christmas dinner?

WetLettuce2 · 19/12/2022 17:19

The monstrosity of consumerism, otherwise known as Christmas.

JiminyGlick · 19/12/2022 17:24

Poinsettias. Hideous things. Does anyone really like them?

And really difficult to kill 😄

JiminyGlick · 19/12/2022 17:26

I agree 'ick' is offensive.

TearsNReindeers · 19/12/2022 17:28

Well isn’t this a jolly thread? Grin

CloseYourEyesAndSee · 19/12/2022 17:35

The world really is divided into people who understand what a performative social media griefwank is and those who could never #bekind

Another Ick (literally!!) is people who say they wear pjs all day. Why? That's so gross. Sloppy, smelly and gross. And if you shower and put on clean pyjamas why??? Wear clothes you weirdos

Benjispruce4 · 19/12/2022 17:39

@JiminyGlick the white ones are nice.

Benjispruce4 · 19/12/2022 17:39

@AdditionalCharacter that doesn’t convey having guests. Hosting is the correct term.

People's complete lack of understanding of my children's SEN. Its an issue all year, but is particularly prevalent at Christmas. I spend the whole of December being made to feel like I'm robbing DS1 of vital, life altering Christmas memories, and that he'll grow up resenting me for it.

We don't go to the panto because he has ASD and the lights/sound/smoke effects/shouting crowd etc are just too much for him. The Christmas Market in our nearest city completely overwhelmed him a few years ago, so he doesn't want to go, Santa visits freak him out. DS2 is severely dyspraxic, so ice skating is out unless we want a broken arm for Christmas.

We have our own family things we do, that they both love, but I spend the whole of December resisting the urge to deck (ha!) anyone who tells me I'm 'robbing' them of the opportunity to 'make memories'.

I hear you!
the family gatherings with far too many people and things going on, even though they are family you love.
Going away to family - the altered mealtimes, different foods, bedtimes slightly out, internal tutting from relatives who don’t want to understand why your child is ‘acting up’, ‘let her stay up a bit, it’s Christmas’… being out of normal routine!!

@fancyacuppatea it's a sainsbury's click and collect one. Except she only realised after ordering that she has to collect it because she's paid for it. So she has to drive an hour to my local sainsbury's to collect it and bring it to my house.
I'm tempted not to open the door but that's a bit mean.

Oh, I presumed from your other post that she lives too far away to actually spend Christmas Day with you. Could you not just go to her and let her cook Christmas Dinner for you?

Endless discussion about whether Die Hard is or isn’t a Christmas movie.

Yes, it's annoying.
It clearly is 😂

Chickadee83 · 19/12/2022 17:47

I’m the Mum in the dressing gown with the bin bag! 😂😂 Also, Christmas jammies are for life not just Christmas! My kids wear theirs all year round 😂

Wouldn’t necessarily say it’s an ick but I find the whole ‘Secret Santa’ thing absolutely pointless. When I first started in my current workplace it was a £15 gift ( which I felt was quite expensive but being new didn’t want to seem like the Grinch!) People would choose a ticket and get the random corresponding gift, you couldn’t even cater your gift to an individual because you didn’t know who you were buying for! Over the years the price has varied between £1, £5 and £10. I just find the whole thing really wasteful( work in a school so get lots of gifts anyway!) Also very awkward having to take turns and open the gift up in front of everyone 🙈🙈 one year we did a food-bank donation instead which I thought was more in the spirit of giving. This year I’ve just opted out full stop 🛑
I think probably the need to share every minute detail of your Christmas/traditions on social media is my major Ick as it feels like nothing is sacred anymore and people aren’t properly present in the moment ( I left all social media years ago because of this and would highly recommend )

AppleDumplingWithCustard · 19/12/2022 15:10

Stop being so offensive. Do you insult all religions or just reserve your abuse for Christianity?

Abuse? 😂 I think it was a joke. MN has gone mad.

CloseYourEyesAndSee · 19/12/2022 17:53

wildthingsinthenight · 19/12/2022 16:05

A family member calls Christmas CHRISMACA?!
I want to smack her every time she says it.
Aarggggh!

That's from the OC - it's Christmas and Hanukkah combined

Chickadee83 · 19/12/2022 17:55

JiminyGlick · 19/12/2022 17:24

Poinsettias. Hideous things. Does anyone really like them?

😂😂😂 Ach they are a nice colour ❤️

My MIL bought us one every year( before she passed away) as my husband apparently had the ‘knack’ in looking after them 😂 In reality it was just pure neglect on his part.

My SIL now carries on the tradition of buying us one each Christmas!! Pleased to report it’s not been watered once but is absolutely thriving!

BrilliantBadgers · 19/12/2022 17:58

Numbat2022 · 19/12/2022 07:55

People who post photos of the 'piles of presents' their children have. Also applies to birthdays. It's terribly crass.

You horrible snob. Let people do whatever they want to do. Why be so judgemental? Angry

Liverpool52 · 19/12/2022 17:58

The twee BBC news / Met office posts of "sleigh being pulled by 12 reindeer". Fuck off.
