'With all the trimmings'

I couldn't even type that without my teeth itching.

I'm sure they'll be plenty more...Smile

For me it's the name - they were bacon rolls when I was growing up (as opposed to a roll and bacon which is a bap type thing with bacon in it...). Pigs in blankets is an americanisation! Mind you, whatever you call them (bacon rolls, bacon rolls!) they are delicious 😋

I agree. Bacon rolls and chipolatas (served separately) when I was growing up. And the term.ligs in blankets was used by some people for sausage rolls. Pastry is more blankets like then a rasher of bacon!!

Having loads of presents from Santa. My kids thought they were naughty growing up as all their cousins presents were from Santa. We only did one, rest from actual people.

Mil was not pleased because she wanted ds to think the huge pile of plastic tat she bought him every year was from Santa, and we told ds it was from her.

Santa brings stocking gifts and one present that has been asked for.

wildthingsinthenight · 19/12/2022 16:05

A family member calls Christmas CHRISMACA?!
I want to smack her every time she says it.
Aarggggh!

myusernamewastakenbyme · 19/12/2022 16:06

Tacky shite made by stay at home huns and sold on facebook marketplace...im thinking of scrabble letters in frames etc ...glittery gin glasses and god awful cheap rash inducing toiletries shoved in a basket and wrapped with cellophane being sold as a 'hamper'.

Santa Baby - sung by anyone, but particularly by Kylie Minogue

Love the Eartha Kitt version, though. She doesn't sing it, she purrs it.

Eartha Kitt's voice was so wonderful.

People stealth-bragging about Christmas Eve by saying: “we don’t do much, we tend to JUST visit various relations, have a hot choccie, open Christmas Eve boxes and then go ice skating, pop to the cinema to watch a family Christmas movie, have a bracing walk round a National Trust property grounds, then we’ll come home to get into our matching PJ’s and snuggle-up with hot choccies with all the trimmings and a fave Christmas movie. Then the adults finish the sprouts prep whilst all the kids play a few board games and then we all pop to midnight mass before home for another snuggle and popping the stockings out for Santa. We just like to keep it low-key basically.”.

I’m always 😓reading posts like that. Who ARE these people?!?!

Where do they fit in listening to the Carols from King's College in all this?

Calphurnia88 · 19/12/2022 16:09

The phrase 'Merry Christmas from me and mine to you and yours' accompanied by a family photo and posted to social media seems to have grown in popularity over the last couple of years and is a bit cringetastic.

MeridianB · 19/12/2022 16:10

Did you think the person who invented Christmas Eve boxes also came up with baby showers and 'gender reveal' parties? 👿

Purplecatshopaholic · 19/12/2022 16:11

Elf on the shelf - I don’t even know exactly what it is, and it annoys me. Christmas Eve boxes - just WTAF is that about, other than rampant and excessive consumerism.. (See also Christmas bed linen…)
Traditional Christmas Dinner - yuck. There’s a reason why many of us don’t eat this shit at any (other) time of year. I do love pigs in blankets though..

Lovemusic33 · 19/12/2022 16:11

Chiristmas Eve boxes and endless photos of elves doing naughty things 😬

Brandy butter 🤢

Christmas jumpers…socks…hats etc..

Adults buying presents for adults.

The whole notion of "you have to do/eat this because it's Christmas". I don't do these things any other time of the year because they aren't actually enjoyable.

I like getting presents for people - I do my best to choose something they will enjoy. I don’t want people to feel they have to buy presents, but it is something that can cheer people up, I think.

Eartha Kitt's voice was so wonderful.

It's the only version worth listening to. Makes me laugh every time.

Twixtmas - I have only started seeing the word this year and already it is giving me the rage.

The first time I recall seeing this abomination of a word was for coach holidays between Christmas and New Year, that was about 35 years ago.

Aarggggh!

This is from The OC. Terrible patter from your family member.

Benjispruce4 · 19/12/2022 16:14

Those that can’t wait to put up their Christmas tree in November then froth with excitement at telling anyone that will listen, that it’s down after Boxing Day. Ejits!

Is it??
Ugh

wildthingsinthenight · 19/12/2022 16:18

Oh is it supposed to be Chrismukkah..a cross between Christmas and Hanukkah?
Just occurred to me.

Either way. No.

justasking111 · 19/12/2022 16:18

Hotels here pre Xmas have tinsel and turkey coach tours in Llandudno. The Christmas decorations are amazing. Worth a drive along the promenade with children

Ah, maybe she has got it from Chrismukkah which is what my Jewish friend and her Christian husband call the festive period. It's party central at their house and they got Chrismukkah jumpers in New York.

Benjispruce4 · 19/12/2022 16:23

Thanks for this thread op. Definitely needed amongst the madness.

Benjispruce4 · 19/12/2022 16:25

@MeridianB yes I think it’s probably Mr Hallmark!
