Are we having a Christmas fridge thread this year?

I know every year it gets slated by the ones who click on It to say how awful it is. But don't know if it would be genuinely insensitive?
I'm only asking because I finally have a proper huge fridge for the first time in years 😀

Genuine question: why do people buy 3-4 bottles of milk? BewareTheBeardedDragon has 6 , are you all milk lovers ?? the shops are only closed for two days
I see a lot of waste here , unfortunately

We would get through that... Two milk obsessed young children.

TangledWebofMincemeatDeception · 21/12/2022 21:12

We don’t waste any of our food. None at all, and not just at Christmas either. I’m extremely careful never to throw any food away.

I can’t speak for previous poster, but I’ve got lots of milk in, and more is being delivered on Friday (3 days early to allow time off for milkman). Some is for baking, some for porridge, some for cauliflower cheese (to have with roast beef), some for hot drinks/drinking.

I don’t intend to set foot in a shop between now and 2nd or 3rd of January, or longer, if I can help it! The time between Christmas and NY is for hygge at home, not trudging around supermarkets, IMO. And it’s a good thing I’ve got plenty of food in because DH and I are both coming down with something nasty - feel so rough today, completely out of the blue.

lightand · 21/12/2022 21:12

I have several people coming. I dont think that is out of the way at all. We will need to buy more before they depart.

Ironically, I had just come from reading a thrad about osteoporosis.
My family knows the importance of milk. [not sure that will save everyone]. A friend has it. No thanks if we can help it.

You see waste? How? By making assumptions about the amount of milk they've bought / will use? Weird.

We buy and get through loads. More with guests over Christmas. You see your own assumptions, no more, no less!

We buy 4 litres plus 2 of oat milk on a normal
week (and none gets wasted). We’ve got an additional 11 people over Christmas, I think we’re going to get through quite a bit!

lawandgin · 21/12/2022 21:52

How did I not know about the fridge thread? 😱 I have found my people! @pompei8309 would have a fit at my parents' fridge - they get through about 24 pints A WEEK!

That's the same amount I always buy for a week... 4dc, we regularly eat pancakes and Yorkshire puddings which take a lot of milk, eat porridge and cereal, drink coffee and tea with milk. It's not Christmas milk 🤣

BewareTheBeardedDragon · 21/12/2022 22:05

I don't remember the last time I had to throw any milk away - on the very rare occasions that any goes sour I make scones or soda bread with it. Rest assured my milk will be well used.

TangledWebofMincemeatDeception · 21/12/2022 22:09

I knew there was another thing I needed milk for! Yorkshire puddings, of course (also to go with the roast beef).

dudsville · 21/12/2022 22:09

Picked up the click and collect tonight! All ready to go only 6 adults two kids for Xmas dinner. Trifle still to make. Less drinkers than usual too!

Are we having a Christmas fridge thread this year?

TheRealKatnissEverdeen · 20/12/2022 11:48

@ChristmasFreezer that's impressive!

I've got a few bits in but am going to M&S and Waitroise on Thursday I think.
We are eating through sime of the current freezer contents in readiness!
Think we have approx 13 for Christmas. Unsure on Boxing Day yet.

I've got friends over this evening for our annual Christmas get together which we'd usually have at a restaurant.

This is spectacular. I've just found spinach in mine that was best before 17th November.

Prettypennies · 21/12/2022 22:39

Samsung fridge? Think I have the same one!

mum2jakie · 21/12/2022 22:47

We get through a ridiculous amount of milk on a daily basis. Haven't stocked up for Christmas yet. We also get through loads of eggs so the recent shortages have been a bloody pain! Managed to buy a pack of 12 on Monday and we used them all the same day ...

TheGirlWhoLived · 21/12/2022 22:49

Gosh we get through so much milk on a regular basis. Like 3litres a DAY! I may as well have a small herd of dairy cattle in the garden

PickledWilly · 21/12/2022 23:04

dudsville · 21/12/2022 22:09

@PickledWilly , what is the rich and creamy ttd stuff next to your OJ?

It is jersey milk with the cream at the top Wink Christmas treat!

TheRealKatnissEverdeen · 21/12/2022 23:18

@mum2jakie I do really LOVE this fridge. And this is when it comes into it's own!

@userxx have you now got rid of all the old dregs in readiness for fridge filling?

@mincepiepie why, thank you! Please upload pics of salad drawer come cheese cave...where will the salad live?

TangledWebofMincemeatDeception · 21/12/2022 23:42

I love the sound of a cheese cave.

I’ve been quite good with cheeses this year, not gone overboard. Four, maybe five? I’ll fit them in wherever I can.

TheRealKatnissEverdeen · 21/12/2022 23:48

@Dimpous you're fridge is impeccable. So tidy. Care to share tips? Or is this a Christmas fridge clean special?

TheRealKatnissEverdeen · 21/12/2022 23:49

Your not You're 🙄

Most adults know how much milk they will use before they shop next, and buy accordingly. You get the hang of it after a couple of shops, to be honest.

Have you considered the possibility that some families might use more milk than yours?

Yup we have 5 currently.never a drop wasted.i was quite embaressed as I new if I showed our fridge the milk would be shamed.so I'm glad to see others with milk in quantity.

I never understand people saying they run out of milk.we could never let this happen!

kateandme · 22/12/2022 02:10

I am so glad for this thread if only to have saved me from my milk guilt. after being on mn for so long you start to "believe" certain things are bad lol or just not done.but fuck it we go through soon much milk without even trying.

BewareTheBeardedDragon · 22/12/2022 08:13

Aw bless you kate.
I wandered, blissfully unaware, into my milk shaming 😂
Two years ago ds1, who is a big teenage boy, would only drink milk, and we used to have 5 6pinters in the fridge. Can only imagine the minds blown if I'd showed that.
I also never run out of milk, except when we've been isolating during covid. As ds1 has ASD, milk supply was always a top priority (he literally wouldn't drink if there wasn't milk), and even though he's moved on from his milk fixation the need to have milk in at all times has stuck with me.
