I feel such an idiot

A few weeks ago with our Tesco order we got the preorder food catalogue.

It looked yummy and so I picked out what I liked the look of and put it in my basket for the Christmas delivery. I have been asking my oh to go through it and make the choice, which trifle. Which cake. Which meat etc for a few days and now he's finished work he sat down to do it last night

Only to find out it can't be changed as it has already been ordered. The cost is horrendous but the waste is awful. There are two of us, no guests and we have several trifles, logs, cakes cheeseboards. Party food, joints of meat, all 8 portions! The intention was to choose one of each.

I felt ill when he told me, luckily he was calm about it. Christmas is gonna last into February at this rate. Please tell me I'm not the only one?

Fuck me, do posters not think that in an 8 page thread the situation may have moved on a little?

🤣

Glad you got it resolved OP.

Moonatics · 16/12/2022 13:07

At 4pm on Christmas eve it will all be lobbedcinna giant bin.
That's a massive waste

Or “lobbed in” the staff shop so they benefit.

GreenFingersWouldBeHandy · 17/12/2022 02:30

Yes, you are an idiot. Donate as much as you can, although not sure many places will accept with such short notice.

Your 'grab, grab, grab' attitude is appalling. As is everyone else's

you can simply refuse it at the door and they’ll take it back to a store and sort a refund

No, if it is returned to a store, and been out of cold storage for more than 20 minus then it has to be scrapped.

What an absolute waste of food.

Of course it bloody hasn’t been out of cold storage. The vans are refrigerated 🙄

The store will have shut by the time the van gets back (early Christmas Eve closing). And won't be open again until Boxing Day. Can't see anything perishable being kept.

LittleBearPad · 17/12/2022 12:28

If it helps OP I’ve done the same with M&S, fortunately only a couple of puds, which can5 b3 cancelled and I rejigged Ocado to compensate. So used t9 being able to cancel the night before. Glad it got sorted. Enjoy your Christmas and New Year feasts.

No one is going to put it back on shelves on Christmas Eve. It will be chucked.

lurkinglittleladybug · 17/12/2022 13:11

Oh no, freeze what you can, and also donate to food banks if possible?

spirit20 · 17/12/2022 13:33

Can't you just hand the items you don't want back to the driver and get a refund? That's how it works with Sainsburys.

MrsMontyD · 17/12/2022 13:38

@NotSorry I was replying to @Stravaig, not the OP I quoted the post I was responding to.

There was a discussion, within the thread, which I read, about people reserving a Christmas slot with bottles of champagne.

Skye2020 · 17/12/2022 17:38

Cancel the order completely and start over and physically go shopping . Or phone Tesco's head office and explain what has happened X

justanothermummma · 17/12/2022 17:48

I'm so sorry but I found this hilarious!
Donate to a foodbank what you don't want or have a party between Christmas and New Year?!
At least you'll be spoilt for choice?!

JoeBlogger · 17/12/2022 17:52

Freeze everthing you possibly can, keep what you can eat, gift the rest to a foodbank.

Tessabelle74 · 17/12/2022 17:56

If you ring them they can cancel it, I once had 1 banana in my basket just to save it and nearly ended up paying £40 for it, Tesco were great when I phoned them, thought it was hilarious too and said it happens more than you'd think!

WillisT · 17/12/2022 17:56

Sell me some

Jeclop · 17/12/2022 18:03

We haven't ordered from tesco online but they few supermarkets we have ordered from, allow you to turn anything away, thay you don't want, at the door. Just give it all back to the driver and you get a full refund. Tesco must be the same?

Kcr101 · 17/12/2022 18:04

GerronBuzanDoThaWomwok · 17/12/2022 18:08

£100 for a 2 year old ? Wow.

AlisonBa · 17/12/2022 18:11

Just cancel the order and go to the shops for what you need. I am struggling to understand what the drama this TBH

redressgirl · 17/12/2022 18:13

the shops shut for a very small amount of time why buy loads anyway 🤷🏻‍♀️
in your situation op i don’t understand why you don’t nip to the shop to do it
it’s just me and my dp and i done mine in the shop even when my kids was little i still did it in store better then wasting money surely

Missingpop · 17/12/2022 18:21

I’ve had a shit day & you’ve cheered me up no end, I’m absolutely peeing myself laughing; your names not Sharon by any chance because this has my sisters name written all over it; it honestly is the sort of thing she would do; I absolutely dread to think how much it has cost you; but I agree you have to get straight on to customer services; I’m sure they can do something to help you; I’m a bit surprised they didn’t question the order to be honest; you don’t order for two people 51 weeks of the year then the whole street at Christmas; it’s not as if it’s not going to sell in store is it.

Sn1859 · 17/12/2022 18:23

Couldn’t you just tell them what you don’t want when it’s delivered so it can be returned? I have before, just one thing though.

Some people don’t like shopping. If I was buying a little bit I would walk to the shop. If I was doing the ‘big shop’ it’s done online. Everyone’s put stuff in there basket they intend to take out but they’ve forgotten. I’m guessing they also didn’t intend to buy loads.

BooneyBeautiful · 17/12/2022 18:30

CoolShoeshine · 16/12/2022 11:18

Can you not hand some things back to the driver for a refund? I do that with Asda sometimes and the money goes back to my account. I just say I ordered them by mistake

This.

CotswoldsMum72 · 17/12/2022 18:31

Call Tesco and explain you made the error. I’m sure they’ll sort it out for you.

Sn1859 · 17/12/2022 18:31

Why feel rubbish about it? You don’t need to. She doesn’t know it’s Christmas. I have two teens. They don’t remember what they got when they were 5 let alone 2. Take the pressure off yourself, sod everyone else. Make it about yourself to cheer yourself up. You’ve got years to make it special for her.
