I feel such an idiot

A few weeks ago with our Tesco order we got the preorder food catalogue.

It looked yummy and so I picked out what I liked the look of and put it in my basket for the Christmas delivery. I have been asking my oh to go through it and make the choice, which trifle. Which cake. Which meat etc for a few days and now he's finished work he sat down to do it last night

Only to find out it can't be changed as it has already been ordered. The cost is horrendous but the waste is awful. There are two of us, no guests and we have several trifles, logs, cakes cheeseboards. Party food, joints of meat, all 8 portions! The intention was to choose one of each.

I felt ill when he told me, luckily he was calm about it. Christmas is gonna last into February at this rate. Please tell me I'm not the only one?

Hey everyone - She phoned Tesco and they took out the bits she didn't need.

Panic over.

FlatWhiteExtraHot · 18/12/2022 12:34

Wow! All these unique ideas! 😂

Probably because they can not find where she said it. I scrolled and scrolled and could not find the outcome. What is it?

No, sorry but that still doesn't make sense. Even if you can't find the OP's post it's hard to understand people missing page after page of posts suggesting the same thing.

Notwellatall · 18/12/2022 14:04

Further proof of people not being real - see also glitch in the matrix thread. And - cancel the cheque, OP!

Dee876 · 18/12/2022 14:45

We all make mistakes , try and make the most of it . I personally With the cost of living atm wouldn’t give it all away I’m sorry but you have to put yourself 1st . As others have said the best would be to cancel the order if not that will last well I ti next year . Don’t beat yourself up . Merry Christmas 🎅 xx

Dee876 · 18/12/2022 14:46

Sorry if replied in wrong post and hope she did get it cancelled 👌

Dee876 · 18/12/2022 14:46

👏👏👏

Lovesnowforever · 18/12/2022 15:44

You could give it back to the driver? I shop with Waitrose and Ocado and when they deliver I still give some items back to the driver and he will just take it off.

Does anyone know if the deadline for changing a Sainsbury's order will be any different?

Depends if you've bought pre-order special Christmas food as opposed to standard off the shelf food I imagine.

When the delivery driver arrives simply tell the driver that the good people of Mumsnet told you to do this and do that despite you already having sorted the issue last week.

Wow it didn’t take long for the news to pick this up!

www.mirror.co.uk/news/uk-news/mum-feels-like-idiot-after-28757023?int_source=nba

was reading it thinking 🤔 hmm.. this sounds so familiar to the T! The only difference is they changed the source and said it was Netmums! Word from word this article is about this post!

I think it’s crazy the amount of times I have seen this happen on this website, it’s a bit disconcerting to say the least!

Tropicaliyes · 18/12/2022 16:59

Nope actually the source is correct!

TheHumanExperience · 18/12/2022 20:00

If the OP worries about the cost, I doubt buying it to give away will help.

The best thing to do is call customer services and cancel the order. It shouldn't be a problem if delivery isn't imminent.

ohyouknowwhatshername · 18/12/2022 20:33

Funnily enough @TheHumanExperience , that's what she did - about 9 pages ago 😊

MrsMontyD · 18/12/2022 20:52

For those struggling to read the thread, if you're on the app you can easily filter the OPs posts so you can just read for opening post and updates. So no scrolling through needed.

Can't remember if you can do that on the website version

You can

Zedcarz · 19/12/2022 05:25

Not read the full thread but if you can't cancel it just freeze anything you possibly can. If some of it luxury food items give them as gifts to people you haven't bought for yet, or keep as last minute emergency gifts for unexpected visitors or set up a fun online/ work raffle !

Tropicaliyes · 19/12/2022 05:48

The OP has sorted the issue now.. I just brought it back to say the news picked this thread up😂😂 that was all.

Stewball01 · 19/12/2022 06:21

If you're going to get another freezer then I don't see what the problem is.

Pkn77 · 19/12/2022 08:47

How? You added one of each to your basket and you ended up with 8 of each?

Pkn77 · 19/12/2022 08:55

Sorry didn’t read the post properly. Glad you sorted it 😄

Pixie2015 · 19/12/2022 17:54

Just realised I have done the same lots of items in basket on 30th September - then was going to whittle down but forgot - we’ve got a lot of sweet stuff coming !!! And a massive ham!!!

RodneyUK · 19/12/2022 20:59

A lot of food banks are struggling, send some to them or wrap it up and invite people to collect on Facebook
