Gift idea for 13yo and 17yo non binary girls

Help dh not sorted friends dc gifts and seeing them this weekend. We always spend £30 or so. Up to £50 max.

No idea what to get them both. They like pc gaming. They are both quite "cool" but their taste is individual. The younger one likes Wednesday (netflix) so something goth could be good.

Has to be to order quickly!!

This is impossible right?

OP posts:

Don't get HMV vouchers nobody young shops there anymore

Actually my teenagers and their friends do. They buy pc or Xbox games, band merch, posters, CDs.

I thought non-binary was when you were supposed to pretend you didn't know if they were male or female?

snowmanshoes · 13/12/2022 09:32

HMV did go out of favour a few years back but it is very much a popular place these days.

asimileofsomesmoke · 13/12/2022 09:52

HMV vouchers are a good idea. Or what about a card game or a board game? Exploding kittens or cards against humanity type are popular

Rhythmisadancer · 13/12/2022 09:54

sorry, are they non-binary or are they girls? Maybe don't refer to them as girls if they're NB

My teens love HMV. Vinyl is cool again apparently, plus merch, posters, etc.

LateAF · 13/12/2022 10:19

Always better to give teenagers money or vouchers- even if you know them well it's hard to get their specific tastes right.

If they're into PC gaming, maybe something like a gaming mouse (razer is a good brand)? Alternatively an RGB keyboard, e.g. something like this Steelseries one (also a good brand) www.currys.co.uk/products/steelseries-apex-3-tkl-gaming-keyboard-10231139.html or maybe a full desk mouse mat in a design they'd like (have a look on Amazon there are loads of options).
Or if you're going for gift cards - why not a Steam gift card? (Steam being the equivalent of the "app store" for PC games - they also sell these at Currys etc)

Hmv is a good choice. My daughter and her friends are all non-binary and wouldn't be offended at being called non-binary girls. They would have been called tom boys in my day but happy to call people what they want. X

Frapped · 13/12/2022 10:25

What's non binary mean in this situation? What are binary girls like?

danger zone though. Does the RGB keyboard work with the same RGB software they use for their mousepad/fans/mouse etc - total minefield.

Well, if you buy into gender theory, binary girls have long hair/only wear pink/love Barbie dolls.

Whereas non-binary don't buy into all that stereotypical crap.

If it weren't so Orwellian, it would make you laugh.

Oh thank you Loveisagirlcalleddaisy. I've never met one of those girls. Maybe all girls are non binary then, and we can just start using the word "girl" for a female child with diverse interests? What do you say OP, shall we just call them girls?

loveisagirlnameddaisy · 13/12/2022 10:38

Where is the like button, goddamit! @Frapped

Lovageandrose · 13/12/2022 10:47

A biology book?

Leah5678 · 13/12/2022 10:49

"non binary girls" 🤣🤣 I thought the whole point of that silly trend was they were neither male nor female

Ha!

And as a parent of teen girls who basically like what they like, what @Frapped said

Wanderingowl · 13/12/2022 11:07

I'm reading non-binary girls to mean that they are girls in reality but think themselves too special to be like other girls. So in the context of this thread, would maybe not appreciate any sort of gift that could be accused of being too girly.

WhatWouldKimDealDo · 13/12/2022 11:17

oh dear, OP you've opened a can of worms with all the Mumsnetters posting terribly clever "stuff and nonsense comments" about your NB young people. This will be derailed now into a protracted and tedious debate about gender identity, where people boringly pick over your wording, when all you really wanted to do is get some useful suggestions for a present for a couple of youngsters. 😂🙄

I think you could just get something fairly neutral - the idea of Costa vouchers above is great - my teens would be happy with that- money or vouchers always goes down well, or cinema vouchers.
