What gifts are you getting yourself this year?

Anyone else bought themselves a little gift (or two) this year?

I've decided to treat myself to a box of Christmas chocolates from Hotel Chocolat. I'm into fitness/running and nobody every buys me chocolate at Christmas because they think I'll disapprove?! (Definitely not the case!) Every year I watch everyone else opening their chocolates with envy...

My present is in the New year. I'm going to be brave and have some keratosis things removed from my neck and chest. I've been self conscious for years so have been saving up to get them removed.

I had a pair of GHDs for about 18 years and they recently died a death so I replaced with a £20 pair thinking what could be the difference?! They're rubbish! I'm spending far too much time looking up £100 straighteners online but not sure if it's worth it.. I'm leaning towards treating myself for Christmas..

Marzipan from Germany and orange tort one from Spain.

Been low carbing all year, going to throw caution to the wind on only actual Christmas Day, so no point taking any risks incase no one else thought of indulgences.

Incidentally, feasting on Christmas Day on all the things I avoid all year gives a lot of magic back to Christmas. Going to arrange a good long hike on Boxing Day to get all the sugar back out of my system.

I've done myself a stocking. No one else will be awake first thing in the morning so I will unwrap it and act delighted. It has:

  • a jar of honey
  • a mini Prosecco
  • some tiny gold earrings
  • a book
  • a bag of liquorice all sorts
  • a face mask
Nothing expensive but just nice small things. I am eyeing a very expensive candle though...

& the award from the classiest stocking ever goes to…

How odd that you want products that your company makes and sells, you must be very passionate about them! 🙄

SommerTen · 08/12/2022 11:35

I got myself some vintage presents...

A beige Sylvac rabbit match striker.

A pair of black & white miniature Victorian antique Staffordshire cats on cushions (I have a tuxedo cat).

A Ww2 era military photo of an army platoon with their names written in pencil on the back.

SommerTen · 08/12/2022 11:36

The Ww2 photo is because I'm a bit of a ww2 geek.

UWhatNow · 08/12/2022 11:41

“How odd that you want products that your company makes and sells, you must be very passionate about them! 🙄”

Obviously in sales and marketing. Must try harder though.

I'll renew the flower subscription I got myself last year.
I also commissioned a small bedside rug (120 by 95cm) by a rug maker that lives on my road. Totally bespoke - it's looking fab and will be ready by Christmas.

mrsbyers · 08/12/2022 11:45

I just bought myself a Gucci Marmont bag , used some of the money my lovely dad left in his will and will treasure it

TangledWebofMincemeatDeception · 08/12/2022 11:48

A small selection of Emma Bridgewater Gold Toast pieces...sales...couldn't resist, oops! I'll have to find another gift for DH to make it fair!

dontgobaconmyheart · 08/12/2022 12:25

@SavouryFlavour that sounds lovely, I love looking in our local galleries and am always hoping to spot something I love that I know belongs with me at home.

One of my Christmas treats to myself came this morning, Harper Collins (the book publisher) were doing a 40% off all their titles on their website as a Black Friday offer so I chose some lovely Hardbacks - the very pretty (but I also look forward to reading them) coffee table kind that normally can't be justified cost wise at full price.

My other Christmas treat to myself is an annual thing and it's a box of chocolates that I used to share with my grandma when I was a child. Anthon Berg Cherry in Marzipan if anyone's curious, so a bit niche (and probably not suitable for a child at all in retrospect). She died many years ago but I've such fond memories of us sitting together sharing a bit of hers as a treat and gradually getting a whole one as I got older that I get a box every year and enjoy them in a quiet moment with her in mind. It helps that nobody else ever wants one or likes them so I know the whole box is mine to do with as I will.

TangledWebofMincemeatDeception · 08/12/2022 12:30

Ahhh @dontgobaconmyheart that made my heart swell a little. I’m Danish and Anthon Berg chocolates are very nostalgic for me too. I’ve got a box of strawberry and marzipan chocolates arriving today! My grandparents home was my very special happy place and I spend many quiet moments with them in mind at Christmas. Flowers

justasking111 · 08/12/2022 17:44

Cherry heering liqueur chocolate my dad used to buy me. I had completely forgotten. OH I want some now

TangledWebofMincemeatDeception · 08/12/2022 20:27

@justasking111 go on, get yourself a box for Christmas! 😊🎄

JaceLancs · 08/12/2022 20:34

A stunning diamond ring from myself
some new black boots and a cashmere cardigan (I know I will get £200 cash from DM)
perhaps Dcat could give me perfume

lightand · 08/12/2022 20:36

Ha! Not sure.

Sometimes like this year, I have already gathered a few, non expensive items. I put them away about a month ago.
I will get a surprise as my memory is shocking, and can prob only remember what 1 is at this point.

lightand · 08/12/2022 20:38

I send a small list out as well.

Can only remember 2 items on it. Both are books or something, to help me get the accents right on a language.
I can get some words right, but my pronunciation isnt good so it doesnt always sound right. No use, as there have been times when I need to speak it and be understood.

Myjobisanightmare · 08/12/2022 20:43

One of those little mulberry satchel bags Ormonde Jayne perfume aromatherapy associates bath oil and beats earphones (I’ve convinced myself that noise cancelling will block out the sound of neighbours wind chimes which would be the best Xmas gift of all, so please leave me in my blissful ignorance if I’m incorrect)

Fofftwenty21 · 08/12/2022 21:26

JamMakingWannaBe · 06/12/2022 23:00

These!

I love these! Where did you get them from?

Justthisonce12 · 08/12/2022 21:31

A pizza oven, moon boots, 2 jumpers and menopause supplements 🤣

ThatshallotBaby · 08/12/2022 21:31

My kittens are pulling out the stops this year. So far they’ve bought me some silver cuff earrings from Static Jewellery and they are currently eying up a pink suede slouch bag from Wolf and Badger AND they are trying to find a good deal on some Aromatherapy Associates bath oil.
They spoil me Grin

FindingMeno · 08/12/2022 21:34

Perfume, some fancy face cream and a pandora bracelet.
