What are you getting your husband?

My husband made a comment that he gets the same stuff every year and I should try to think a bit more about what he'd like and he's right. He's very creative and always puts a lot of thought into his presents. I tend to get him new clothes, shoes etc nothing too exciting. We have a 3 year old and a 1 year old so it's always been quite rushed but wanting to make the effort, so maybe if I saw what you're getting your husband I could get some inspiration?

Generally an upgrade of things he uses regularly - more expensive whisky/brandy; aftershave or replacement of shabby t-shirts, jumpers. Books, decent underwear, nightwear. Last year he'd bought a new coat, a different colour to his usual and I managed to find a scarf that went with it better than his existing and leather gloves.
Not very exciting but will at least be used/appreciated.

I try to find at least one thing that's a bit different, doesn't have to be expensive, but struggling this year. Not seeing anything on the multiple 'what to buy men' threads! Please keep the ideas coming!

Past successes have been:
An ooni pizza oven
A sage coffee machine
A bike

This year he's had a v challenging year health wise & I'm so impressed by how he's coping so I wanted to spoil him a bit & he's getting

  • An electric drum kit (long desired)
  • fancy coffee bean grinder to match the machine
  • really nice aftershave
  • good bottle of whiskey

And also a stocking with has:
Books
Cherry liqueurs
Nice socks
Pork scratchings
L'occitane soap
Moleskin notebook (annual gift)
Mini bottle port

He's going to be totally blown away by the drums though & I'm so excited for him to open that one.

He's super generous & really good at buying presents for me so I love to spoil him too

@CoffeeChocolateWine he's genuinely the best husband anyone could ask for so it's genuinely ok. I ordered him a nice backpack for work/leisure for now which is something different!

@Luredbyapomegranate thank you - we're really happy in our marriage and can communicate wishes in a positive and constructive manner as you highlighted, so this is supposed to be positive change.

A hoodie and a pair of World Cup beer glasses in the shape of the trophy.

As with any partner, ask yourself these questions:

What do they like?
...if they like the gym, clothes, weights, supplements...
What do they do regularly?
...if he commutes, something for the journey...
What have they always wanted to do?
...he's a fan of mythology, book or trip to Greece...
What would they change about their situation?
...his back hurts, posture corrector...
What would they want from you?
...has he been bugging to try that one thing in the bedroom?...
What would they change about you?
...you don't like your MIL, how about a voluntary group dinner...
What do they miss/enjoy from youth?
...that tin of boiled sweets he loved, try to find them...

Works for anyone!

Thank you for this thread! I just ordered my husband a pizza oven Brew

Otherwise I got him
-a pair of hiking pants
-a nice long sleeve casual shirt
-a beard care kit
-a weighted sleep mask that can be cooled or heated

I got him a sleep mask last year, just a plain one, and he LOVES it - allows me to watch telly or read in bed while he dozes off.

Alvinne · 04/12/2022 02:47

Wow, people spend a lot!

FixItUpChappie · 04/12/2022 03:00

Well there always has to be at least one with nothing to offer but a comment on how much people spend

Hobbi · 04/12/2022 03:10

He got an iPad on offer in Costco a few months ago and insists that will do him for Christmas and birthday (March!) Bit guilty that I'm typing this post on the iPad now. Might have to spend some special time with him Christmas morning. Wink

The new driver he's been loving eyeing up at the golf shop , a sweater, some books & a nice bottle of whiskey. My Eldest son & his girlfriend have a very special gift announcement they are saving for Christmas day. I'm sworn to secrecy but I can say he will be thrilled & he's going to be a cracking grampy🤫

Craver · 04/12/2022 04:38

One of my friends got her husband a trailer of manure a few years ago. He was thrilled, they are still together.

Forgottenmypasswordagain · 04/12/2022 04:41

I got him a pair of sunglasses and slippers so far. Hope to find ideas in this thread. The sunglasses are his main gift.

Rinatinabina · 04/12/2022 05:36

We only buy gifts so DD has something to give and not just receive. DH is getting a massive bottle of blu de chanel because he wears it everyday. So practical.

EllaPaella · 04/12/2022 07:45

Tickets to a gig, a large framed print by a local artist that he likes, a book and some whiskey.

@gemloving what does he like? Any hobbies? What does he read? What’s his character?

I think knowing and understanding who he is will help you get him something that he will like and is meaningful (possibly). I always think it’s great to have inspiration, but you may get better answers by adding in a bit more about him :)

lightisnotwhite · 04/12/2022 08:10

@meatballsoup that is a lovely present !

Mine loves his rugby team. I was excited to get him a special programme for a game he missed in the Autumn. It was a fiver including postage! It’s featuring his favourite player. Last year, said player recorded him a personalised message via some website someone put on the bargains thread. He loved that.
I’ve bought him cheap Glasses Direct varifocal sunglasses. They cost so much from his normal opticians and he never thinks about prescription sunglasses. (£65) He’s also getting a handmade leather case to put them in(£25).

Stocking presents are amusing chocolates, ball cream ( nicer than it sounds), shower and shaving stuff, Oddballs boxers for his rugby team.

TangledWebofMincemeatDeception · 04/12/2022 08:14

Ah @meatballsoup I’ve got a warm glow inside from that! Flowers

PurBal · 04/12/2022 08:20

Birthday near Christmas. Normally do a subscription or tickets as something to look forward to but this year he’s getting a breadmaker, various shoes (he ask for 4 different types), a chocolate orange, normally get a book but he’s not had a chance to read much since DS was born.
