I usually put mine up around the beginning of December, DH is usually happy to leave it to me and doesn't usually have any festive cheer until he's finished work for Christmas. This year is different though, he's already watched Christmas films with dd who's 7 and he's mentioned putting the tree up this weekend. I'm not sure if it's too early? On the other hand if he's found his festive cheer I'm going to enjoy it, christmas is my favourite time of year and I'm usually desperate for him to be more festive 😂

The people that rip them down on boxing day are usually the people who moan they should only go up on xmas eve... I assume those people just hate xmas.
That's not been my experience, people I know are either Advent to sometime between 27th to 31st people, or mid December onwards to Twelfth Night or even Candlemas people. I always leave some things up until Candlemas as January is bleak otherwise. I don't hate Christmas and I'm not a grinch just because I don't want to start it yet.

Ihavedogs · 19/11/2022 14:40

I’m a mid December sort of person. I also have a real pot grown tree which wouldn’t survive if it was brought in too soon. It will stay up until as near as 12th night as possible.

CrackersCheeseAndWinePlease · 19/11/2022 14:45

Mine usually go up the first weekend in December and I take them down the weekend before the kids go back to school and I'm back at work.
It does feel a bit early but I love the festive season, DH said he'll wait a bit longer if that's what I want but I can see he's itching to get the tree up. He's currently watching Christmas films 😂

the people I know who are of the 'rip them down on boxing day' school of thought are those who have the decorations up in Nov. I put them up mid Dec and leave them up until around 6th/twelfth night.

No not before advent Sunday

Why not if that’s what someone wants to do? We put ours up 17 Dec and down on 31 Dec. We like a tree but want it out of the way when Christmas is over and cleaned up for the NY.

Season0fTheWitch · 19/11/2022 14:50

The decs are out of the attic and in the spare room at the moment, I'll start with wreaths and garlands and then trees next weekend hopefully

Ours will go up next weekend, we always put it up on the last Sunday in November.

Fitting, given its Advent Sunday - no decorations so early for us but we do honour stir-up Sunday!

Megapint · 19/11/2022 15:04

Not yet but I'm tempted to decorate this weekend. I don't know what's happening to me. I usually refuse to do anything Christmas related until mid December but this year I'm totally up for starting early. I think it's because it's been a shit year, cost of living doom & gloom. I need some warm & fuzzy Christmas sparkle.

I think that's how my DH feels

We put ours up on the 5th of November, I never feel like ripping them down and have been known to keep them up most of January too! We love Christmas and the lights make everything seem cosy and sparkly, never too early for Christmas decorations 🎄

alsonotmyname · 19/11/2022 15:13

I usually do first week of December and then down the day before the dc start back at school but I'm going for it next weekend as dd is home from uni.

Angelofthenortheast · 19/11/2022 15:16

I'm putting mine up today!

The Christmas Market is in full swing in our city centre, all the lights are up in the shops, Christmas movies 24 is on TV - so I think it's justified!

People always moan that we start enjoying Christmas too early and I don't know why. It's miserable outside, days are so short, endless bad news in the country - I needs to get me that Christmas spirit now!

Luckily it's still lovely where we are. Crisp sunny days, autumn colours, and mushrooms in the woods.

WeeOrcadian · 19/11/2022 15:59

Fuck, no. It isn't even December yet. I silently judge people with trees up in November.

Ihavedogs · 19/11/2022 16:00

@Athenen0ctua I wish we were having your weather. It’s been so wet and grey for days and days here. Living in hope that we will have a bit of brightness soon.

Doowop1919 · 19/11/2022 16:05

We usually put ours up first Advent (so next weekend). But we can't next weekend, nor the weekend after that. And then it's a bit late for me as I like the tree up, it makes me feel happy, and this is the first Christmas I'm looking forward to in years after family deaths, COVID and infertility. We put ours up this morning and are currently chilling with the lights on. It's lovely and cosy. It feels a bit early for me but I'd rather a bit early this year than put it up 2 weeks later than we usually do. Toddler DS had lots of fun too!

Pasithean · 19/11/2022 16:06

If we put them up it will be Christmas Eve.

IsThePopeCatholic · 19/11/2022 16:06

I delay for as long as possible. Nothing is more depressing for me than Christmas decs which have been up for ages. I’ll probably go for the 15th December.

Cuppasoupmonster · 19/11/2022 16:06

first Saturday of December here. We make a day of it, music on, make hot chocolate, have a nice lunch. DD (3) has picked some fairly horrific decorations this year so it will be interesting 😆 (Santa riding a T. rex anyone?!)

SDTGisAnEvilWolefGenius · 19/11/2022 16:08

Ours will go up a week or so before Christmas - we have never put the decorations up early. But I am more than happy to see other people’s Christmas lights up - the white, sparkly ones. I love them and think they make everything so pretty.

YukoandHiro · 19/11/2022 16:41

The Saturday before schools break up. That's the earliest. This year it will be later as we have decorators in.

ChristmasCwtch · 19/11/2022 18:41

I’m putting up ours tomorrow. It’s a week earlier than usual. Very excited. Judge away judges pants 😂

ChristmasCwtch · 19/11/2022 18:42

I must be the only grown up who doesn’t know what advent is. Why are people waiting till then?

ChristmasCwtch · 19/11/2022 18:43

I do remember making a Blue Peter advent wreath with candles, but I can’t remember why!!

It was when M&S shopping bags were a lovely bright green.
