Who has their tree and decs up?

I usually put mine up around the beginning of December, DH is usually happy to leave it to me and doesn't usually have any festive cheer until he's finished work for Christmas. This year is different though, he's already watched Christmas films with dd who's 7 and he's mentioned putting the tree up this weekend. I'm not sure if it's too early? On the other hand if he's found his festive cheer I'm going to enjoy it, christmas is my favourite time of year and I'm usually desperate for him to be more festive 😂

I went out this morning and came home to DH and DD decorating, so this weekend apparently.

😂 at least they're doing it, you can put your feet up and watch

I can get fully behind anyone who wants to make their houses shiny and bright for the dark November evenings.

It takes time and effort to decorate so I think starting early and both being able to go slowly and appreciate your efforts for longer is wise.

I think it's very cool to sneer at this but honestly, everyone should do what brings them joy! (I think for some people that's sneering though so don't mind them.)

I try to confine myself to the last leg of November and have them down for the kids going back to school. It's DC's birthday in January though and they requested to keep them up for their birthday last year which I find a bit tiresome tbh. it's easier for me mentally to get it sorted whilst we're all off home and work and start the term/ work year a bit more organised ready for the birthday times. I think this year I will try and strike a compromise.

Tbf we have already started on the films and crafts and music.

Enjoy yourself! It's the most wonderful time of the year!

I'm festive and not a grinch. I agree with your DH's usual stance of wanting to save the festivities for closer to Christmas. I only have advent things until around the 21st. Though, I don't rush to take things down before New Year like many of the early people.

MajorCarolDanvers · 19/11/2022 13:14

Its November. It is not Christmas.

kopiy · 19/11/2022 13:16

I normally do mid Dec till early Jan

BackToWhereItAllBegan · 19/11/2022 13:22

I live in the US so I always put the tree up this weekend as it's Thanksgiving this week so that feels like the start of the Holiday season to me.
This year I was on holiday during the first week of November and when I got home, it seemed like everyone had already put up their decorations which is super early even for us Americans! I love it, everything looks so pretty and festive.

Inasec24 · 19/11/2022 13:25

The "it's November" posts are so boring. Why can't they just scroll past? It isn't aimed at them.

Normally 1st December but we have decided to go for it next weekend!

mam0918 · 19/11/2022 13:38

not yet... next sunday for Advent.

Advent starts in November and Advent is part of Christmas.

We put ours up when schools break up (so around the 15th December). I love Christmas, but I hate the idea of starting it early and dragging it out for a month or more.

Not sure where you live but our schools break up on the 24th this year.

Yes was going to say this,. We break up absurdly early this year (the 16th), but a couple of years ago it was the 23rd. No way am I putting a tree up on the 23rd, I’ve got enough to do!

gogohmm · 19/11/2022 13:50

No not before advent Sunday

LemonsAndCherries · 19/11/2022 13:52

Our decorations inside are going up today as the kids are very keen. Feels a bit early but why not!

Outside lights for the hedge won't go up until 2 weeks time

80sMum · 19/11/2022 13:55

I'm thinking that I probably won't bother with any Christmas decorations this year. Nobody is coming to our house over Christmas, so I'm happy to do away with all the trappings and just keep things as normal.
If we were hosting anything over Christmas, I would get a tree but doesn't seem worth it just for me and DH. A lot of effort for no actual gain, imo.

namechangeagain3 · 19/11/2022 13:56

Find people so weird who assume that if you put up your decs and what not early, you'll be pulling them down Boxing Day Confused. If you put them up early and enjoy them why would you be sick of them? We are just repainting and having a spring clean ready for ours to go up this weekend. Love it all Christmassy

countdowntonap · 19/11/2022 13:58

We’ve put up one of three today. This is the tallest one (7ft) and I can’t decorate it properly on my own. DH is working abroad over the next couple of weekends so we ended up doing it last night. Other two trees will be purchased and decorated in first weekend of Dec.
We’ve never put a tree up this early and so are keeping the lights off unless the blinds are drawn as I’m embarrassed that the neighbours will see 😳

Athenen0ctua · 19/11/2022 14:00

@namechangeagain3 When do you take yours down? I've read many of these threads and it does seem that people putting decorations up in November tend to have them down by New Year while those putting them up mid December onwards tend to keep them up into January.

On Xmas eve?! I thought we were bad breaking up on 23rd. Where in the country are you?

hernameis · 19/11/2022 14:01

Our decorations are going up today, I'm in Ontario, canada, and we currently have 6 inches of snow on the ground. The town has a Santa parade tonight and all the Christmas craft fairs started this week.

When the clocks go back it's so dark and cold that Christmas lights and cheer make a huge difference for me. I can't understand why people would get irate or upset over when others decide to decorate!

FourTeaFallOut · 19/11/2022 14:01

My children's schools are breaking up on the 15th and 16th. We still have some fairly intensive diy to start complete over the next few weeks. I think our decs won't be up until mid-December. Which is a shame, it's so dark and the lights really cheer the place up.

elp30 · 19/11/2022 14:06

I prefer to buy a real tree and since I live in the US, trees are not in the stores (including artificial ones) until after Thanksgiving which is next week, November 24th.

I'll probably buy one on December 2nd.

Im not namechange but our go up on advent and down after epiphany so this year 27th November to 7th January.

The people that rip them down on boxing day are usually the people who moan they should only go up on xmas eve... I assume those people just hate xmas.

I have never seen any people who enjoy xmas festivities rip them down ASAP, it just doesnt make sense either.

I live and teach in NW England and my school breaks up on the 16th. My dc go to school just over the border into the next county and break up on the 21st, which seems really late! We'll probably put the tree up when I break up.

mondaytosunday · 19/11/2022 14:36

I love Christmas. I rent a storage room which is 80% full of Christmas decorations. I have enough baubles for three tall trees and a couple small ones!
But November is too early for me. First weekend in December, and nice that it comes a few days in this year. I'll go to the unit to collect my boxes December 1 or 2, then get the tree on the 3rd. I do get fed up with them after a while and they come down around New Years.
