Not seen a thread for this year yet but know there is always discussion when they are out!
Thought it would be good to include links!

Looks like John Lewis etc will be released back end of the coming week, based on last year.

I know Very is out already.

This is TKMaxx. Underwhelming I thought.

I'm interested to see what the tone is this year with a lot of people struggling with cost of living... maybe less extravagant and more saving?!

One of my favourites is this M&S one from 2003

No worries @ChristmasCwtch Im 49 but i dont remember the animated Boots Santa from the early 80s. The old Woolworths ones from the same era were linked on here a few years ago. The Quality Street tins then were HUGE

@BrokeAsABone Yes! That’s a refreshing ad. No schmalz, kids or cute animals so induce tears. It made me well up for the reality of Christmas even if it’s dads that cook now. Thankless.

I've just seen a trailer for the Waitrose ad on instagram! In terms of Christmas atmosphere it looks promising (though as my dd said - a trailer for an advert?? They need to get over themselves...)

lightisnotwhite · 16/11/2022 20:42

The Waitrose one is dreadful! What sort of family doesn’t do enough pigs in blankets for everyone ( at least a few plus spares if we are being honest). What sort of family doesn’t make sure the kids have theirs.
What sort of Christmas advert has a (rightly) sobbing ,disappointed child because the adults were greedy and overlooked him.

RichardOsmansXraySpecs · 17/11/2022 10:18

Yes I feel sorry for the little boy crying, then only getting one measly pig-in-blanket, whilst everyone laughs at him.

I agree that the Waitrose ad leaves a nasty taste, who laughs at a distressed child at the Christmas dinner table? Or doesn't cook enough food for everyone?

I'm glad it's not only me who found this ad weird!

BeforetheFlood · 17/11/2022 13:25

Yes, wasn't expecting that plot twist at the end of the Waitrose one! Who on earth thought that was a good idea? Or directed the child to look quite so broken. A wobbly lip at the very most might have been just about ok, but full on sobbing (genuinely - how did they get the kid to do that and is that ethical?) strikes a very wrong note. As does the girl giving hers to him (that could just be me, only sister in a house of brothers when I was growing up and always the one expected to make way without a fuss.) Wouldn't it have been better if the older people exchanging looks at the other end of the table had given him theirs?

Odd move Waitrose!
