Christmas Adverts 2022!

Not seen a thread for this year yet but know there is always discussion when they are out!
Thought it would be good to include links!

Looks like John Lewis etc will be released back end of the coming week, based on last year.

I know Very is out already.

This is TKMaxx. Underwhelming I thought.

I'm interested to see what the tone is this year with a lot of people struggling with cost of living... maybe less extravagant and more saving?!

M&S is awful.
JL whilst I think the theme is excellent and its fun to watch it annoys me that this is the second ad if theirs that centres men, their previous ad was all about a baby growing up and going to school, with the mother blurred out in the background. This one's the same, the woman doing all the organising but Disney Dad front and centre. Given their main customers are women I find it old fashioned and a bit insulting.

How have you all washed it? Their website says it's not launched until 8am?

i did a clicky link at 06.36 above.

MyRiverThee · 10/11/2022 07:38

I like the Aldi one a lot, very cute and funny. I didn’t think much of the others.

BeforetheFlood · 10/11/2022 07:41

JL gets a thumbs up from me for a great song and a good message, but I'm inclined to agree with comiccosmos that their ad team appears to be made up of men who see women as service humans.

It's a lovely contrast with the slightly sickening overconsumption in the Boots advert though, and the OTT unrealistic glitz of M&S. Nice to see a sort of 'real' Christmas represented (even if that does mean the woman is spending it in the kitchen!)

BeforetheFlood · 10/11/2022 07:50

Actually, just watched again on my laptop not phone and the distribution of labour isn't as bad as I thought on first viewing! And I like that the house isn't massive and worth millions like last year's with the alien. Fair play, JL.

kavalkada · 10/11/2022 07:53

Oh I loved JL ad, I cried so hard at the end.

Ihavedogs · 10/11/2022 08:02

I don’t do tears, but I unexpectedly found myself having a cry at the end of the JL ad.

RoachTheHorse · 10/11/2022 08:14

Ive watched it. I liked that a lot. Have drips in my eyes. Dad was helping with the cooking at the end seemed like a normal family. I've no complaints.

I'm putting a bet (virtual) on the John Lewis one being clips of a family gathering around the Queen's speech through the years, showing various retro TVs, interiors and toys. Then cutting to this year - modern, stylish JL decor - and watching the King's speech on an expensive TV set up. Strapline something to do with JL being a constant in a changing world.

Soundtrack a whimsical rendition of something by Queen 😬

(None of this would explain the mysterious bears that are popping up in store, according to that RT article though...)

Not impressed with any of the offerings so far. The M&S (not food) one is awful! Sainsbury's with Alison Hammond is the one that's warmed my chilly heart most.

If it's not this, I suggest you start your own advertising firm immediately!

CrazyBaubles · 10/11/2022 08:19

I liked the sentiment behind the JL ad and enjoyed that for once it wasn't an unrealistic house with a perfect family - but the song absolutely ruined it for me.

IamChipmunk · 10/11/2022 17:44

Argos! I like this 'there will be babies' 😂

I like that Argos one and the Sainsbury’s one. Not too keen on the rest.

popandchoc · 10/11/2022 20:35

I like the mcdonalds and john lewis ones, made me well up.

Floralnomad · 10/11/2022 21:39

I like the JL one , it’s a nice idea .

Although I do like Kevin the Carrot...has anyone noticed that he doesn't end up as the snowman's nose...more like the snowman's willy...have a look - once you've seen it you'll never not notice it again 🫣

sueelleker · 11/11/2022 19:39

They do pause before they say...nose.

ChristmasCwtch · 11/11/2022 19:41

Agree on Kevin. It’s meant to be rude 😂

AppleandSpice · 11/11/2022 19:58

Saw the JL ad, not blown away by this tbh, i agree the singer has absolutely murdered that song so kind of ruined it a bit

Have Just watched the Mcdonalds ad, this has won it for me again this year!

lightisnotwhite · 11/11/2022 20:04

@WTF1974 Bless you. It’s no where near his face.

cypresstree · 13/11/2022 15:19

ChristmasCwtch · 09/11/2022 12:33

The Lidl bear is entirely charmless. Why didn’t they get a nicer happier bear? 😂

yes, it is a really bad bear, they could have done so much better

cypresstree · 13/11/2022 15:21

Just watched the McDonalds ad, out and out winner again. Just about Christmas and love and product placement, logo prominent. Doesn't beat their ad last year though with Iggy the imaginary friend.

JenniferBooth · 13/11/2022 17:22

Every Boots Christmas advert from 1980 to 2022

BrokeAsABone · 13/11/2022 18:18

My all time favourite Christmas ad is the ASDA one from 2012, which was absolutely slated online at the time. But I don't care because the 'star' reminds me of me...same kind of house, same kind of husband, same kind of experiences (bar sitting on a pouffe when everyone else gets a proper seat). I just loved this ad.

ChristmasCwtch · 13/11/2022 18:36

@JenniferBooth do you remember the Boots ad from around 1986/7 where there was a giant present that opened outside a Boots store and everyone kind of walked towards it?

It was my very favourite Christmas ad and I’m wondering if I’ve remembered it correctly 😆

ChristmasCwtch · 13/11/2022 19:21

@JenniferBooth I posted that before realising you put a YouTube link!! I’ve found the ad under 1986. Thank you 🥰
