How will your tree be decorated this year?

Interested to hear how everyone will be decorating their trees for Christmas. We have always gone for the traditional red, green and gold but somehow all my decorations were accidentally thrown out this year when we've been renovating and clearing things out so I'm starting from scratch. I've replaced them for now with a bunch of random colours as I just couldn't decide what to go for so looking for some inspiration before I buy any more! What colour schemes do you go for and do you always have the same or do you change it each year? We have a main tree in the living room and a pencil tree in the dining room so need to decide if they should match or go for different schemes on each.

We go for the "throw any old shite and hope the cat doesn't climb it" look.

OurChristmasMiracle · 28/09/2022 17:23

I have a white tree with red baubles and bows.

flapjackfairy · 28/09/2022 17:23

I am boring and have had the same decorations for over 30 yrs though I do add a bauble or two each year.
My christmas decorations are like old friends to me and I gave no desire to.change them now or ever tbh. I am a v sentimental person !

Love this 🤣 same here

Hoppinggreen · 28/09/2022 17:25

Same as always with a variety of stuff we have picked up on our travels and that the DC made.
The theme will be “looks like an elf threw up on it” but it will be ours and we will love it

TheBeesKnee · 28/09/2022 17:26

If I was starting afresh I would go for blue and silver and white.

As it is, we have a collection of things we like from the past 6 years in a whole riot of colour.

KittyCatsby · 28/09/2022 17:26

We go for the design concept of same old , same old . Works for us .

mogtheexcellent · 28/09/2022 17:27

I have so many decs we never use all of them as noted by DD last year. So we decided to do themes each year so we have nutcracker ballet theme going on as chosen by DD. I just had to buy a mouse king. And an expensive clara imported from US Blush.

I'lll have to stick my suffragette dec up in my office! On the plus side i have dibs on 2023's theme.

AuntieMarys · 28/09/2022 17:29

As it was last year and the year before

TheYearOfSmallThings · 28/09/2022 17:29

Bit of everything, same as usual. I don't like a carefully curated tree

MyGirlDaisy · 28/09/2022 17:32

Our tree is a bit random - like @flapjackfairy we have some that are over 30 years old, Woolworths ones as that’s all we could afford and we have added to the collection over the years. Lots of them have special meanings and I enjoy unpacking them each year and bringing back memories. Probably not trendy but it all looks Christmassy when it’s done. Whatever you decide enjoy choosing new ones!

Pallisers · 28/09/2022 17:36

same as the past 30 years really. We buy a decoration from every place we visit during the year and if we do a new activity we'd buy something to signify that too (so a skate the year they started skating lessons, a boat the year they started to sail). Every decoration tells a story to me.

MunchMunch · 28/09/2022 17:38

The past few years I've had a green tree with white and silver decorations and cool white berry lights and a silver star at the top but last year I changed it to red and white (wanted a candy cane theme) with a Santa hat at the top and warm white lights, still the same tree. I'm thinking red and white again but maybe multicoloured lights this year.

lollipoprainbow · 28/09/2022 17:38

Same as every year, huge real tree with various decs as collected throughout the year. Always like to buy one new one decoration a year. Hate fake perfect trees.

Cosycover · 28/09/2022 17:39

Red and white here

I'm sure I added pictures

Adult DC and partner will probably arrive on Christmas Eve, put the tree up and then coo over all the decorations which are about 30 years old. Any attempt to change or modernise things would be met with huge resistance.

I know someone who puts playgroup-made toilet roll fairy on the tree each year. Made by her DS who is now 28 😂

MrsTerryPratchett · 28/09/2022 17:51

We did fabric and felt last year and it was lovely. Same this year I think.

Snap. We have loads of old ones I'd really miss if we didn't put them on the tree. We have so many decorations now though, that we can do a sort of a theme around the basic 'must have' baubles. Last year we went for silver, green and blue, and the year before was mainly red and gold. So maybe this year it might be a 'chuck it all on until it's full and hope for the best' year!

I’m exactly the same. I add two or three new ones per year and iv3 been collecting for 27 years so I love unpacking them each year. Lots of birds and Gisela Graham decorations.

psuedocream3 · 28/09/2022 18:09

Same each year too, with a few added each year

MintJulia · 28/09/2022 18:18

Every year we try to buy one or two really nice Christmas tree decorations - hand made glass etc.

So our tree evolves over time but is generally fairly rustic in style. 😊

LBOCS2 · 28/09/2022 18:21

Same decorations, adding to them every year but a couple of nice ones.

We have one tasteful green tree with warm white lights and gold baubles.

And one fun green tree with colourful lights and all the quirky baubles we like.

Titsflyingsouth · 28/09/2022 18:21

I eschew Christmas colour schemes completely. Christmas shouldn't be colour coordinated it should be bright and fun. All colours and all styles go on my tree every year and it gives me such a massive amount of joy.

Just embrace the mish-mash!

AmazingBouncingFerret · 28/09/2022 18:25

A couple of years ago I decided to splash out and bought all beautiful matching baubles and lots of bits and bobs for my tree. I decorated it and it looked stunning, absolutely gorgeous but it didn’t feel like our Christmas tree. The year after I put all the old trinkets that had been collected over the years and it was so much nicer!
