How will your tree be decorated this year?

Interested to hear how everyone will be decorating their trees for Christmas. We have always gone for the traditional red, green and gold but somehow all my decorations were accidentally thrown out this year when we've been renovating and clearing things out so I'm starting from scratch. I've replaced them for now with a bunch of random colours as I just couldn't decide what to go for so looking for some inspiration before I buy any more! What colour schemes do you go for and do you always have the same or do you change it each year? We have a main tree in the living room and a pencil tree in the dining room so need to decide if they should match or go for different schemes on each.

We started with a red and gold theme with warm white lights, based on decorations that were given to us when we had no money and we're setting up our flat.

We added green and white to it but over the years we've collected decorations from holidays etc so it's a bit of a mish mash.

We tend to have one main tree and a prelit twiggy tree thing so I try and keep to red, gold, green and white on the main and all others on the twiggy one but it's still a bit all over the place to be honest.
A few years ago I also added a set of multicoloured lights so we can change which lights we have.

Last year DH also bought a slim, pre-lit (with warm white lights) tree in a sale, declared it was his and no decorations are to go on it so we also have that now although I did manage to sneak 2 Robin decorations and a bow it which he didn't notice for over a week

If/ when we ever do our extension and I get an office, I was a small white tree which I'll decorate with coloured lights and jewel coloured baubles

@mogtheexcellent what is your suffragette dec and where did you get it please?

GETTINGLIKEMYMOTHER · 29/09/2022 09:46

Same as usual, real tree, with the multicoloured decorations collected over decades. One set of trad coloured lights (if they’re still working) one set of warm white LEDs. And ‘icicles’ aka lametta, which shivers and catches the light.

Misspacorabanne · 29/09/2022 10:13

Our usual coloured lights and any coloured decs! Got some real vintage ones that I love!! No colour themes here!

mogtheexcellent · 29/09/2022 11:24

@CrazyBaubles

I have this one votes for women and want to buy this one in the purple green and white colours purple

they are cheaper elsewhere but delivery more expensive. I bought mine in a cathedral gift shop! I think there are other designs on etsy.

I'm having two. My living room one, with my collected and personalized over the years decorations is all gold, silver, bronzes, creams and natural wood stuff.

This year I'm also having a colourful tree, vintage 80s look lights and lametta and stuff. All the handmade bright kids stuff. I'm thinking of running DSs train round the bottom too. I fancy those foil decorations that everyone used to have hanging from the ceiling too.

We lost a baby in November 2020 and another in early December 2021. I'm praying this year we won't be sunk in grief and loss and I want as much sparkle, joy, light and fun as we can. 🎄🦌⛄

We go for the "throw any old shite and hope the cat doesn't climb it" look.

Yep. Yep. That's the one 😂

riotlady · 29/09/2022 15:00

I only allow “Christmassy colours” for ours, so red, green, gold, silver and some wooden ones- but aside from that they’re all a mishmash. Also have lots of tinsel!

TwoBigNoisyBoys · 29/09/2022 17:57

My tree ‘themes’ morph gradually…I add or take away a colour each year so it’s slightly different. About 7 years ago it was red, green and white…then the following year I added silver…the following year I took away the red and added lime green to the more traditional green…the following year I added grey…the following year I took away the lime and added that gorgeous silvery-gold …last year I took away all the green and had silver, gold, white and grey. I might add something else this year, I fancy adding teal😊

Goldmember · 29/09/2022 18:05

We collect decorations on holidays for the tree. Last year we had to get emergency decorations as our tree was in storage. A trip to B&M and we got a tree, gold and silver decorations and coloured lights, it was more stylish than our usual tacky affair.

Last year’s….

We have the same, usually with an addition or two, decorations every year. No colour scheme but I have (somewhat undefinable) rules on what colours are deemed suitable; jewel colours, red, green, anything metallic, white… no pastel pinks etc

Ima90sbaby · 29/09/2022 18:14

This was my tree last year 🥰

We have 4!

My tree which goes in the living room - red, white and silver plus a new random decoration for each child every year.

The kids tree which is Marvel themed plus decorations they've made over the years

The tiny tree which is blue and silver and we pop it outside in a pot to grow. It's from bloom and wild (tenner off with my code)

A white spindly tree which doubles up as Easter/Halloween tree and at Christmas it has retro decs Glitterball

OrangePomander · 29/09/2022 18:27

Ours has everything from my grandparents’ glass baubles and tin bells, assorted primary school craft projects and random things bought over the last twenty odd years. Topped with something non-Christmassy chosen by one of the dcs. In recent years that has been variously a Golden Snitch, plastic pterodactyl and a Minecraft chicken. Probably not to everyone’s taste but I love it Grin

pinkhousesarebest · 29/09/2022 18:35

My dcs are in their 20’s now and I have been collecting decorations since before they were born. Each one reminds me of a time and place . But they are unremittingly red and white with a recent tin German contingent of green and red.
The waste in terms of resources and trees does trouble me increasingly.

YanTanTetheraPetheraPimp · 29/09/2022 18:44

so many beautiful trees 😍
I chucked ours out last year, no intention of replacing it unless it’s something very minimalistic.
Not a fan of Christmas but love seeing others’ decorations.

CharlotteSt · 29/09/2022 18:57

We bought one of these a couple of years ago when we had kittens who couldn't be trusted. It's the perfect size to hang in our bay window. I hung a selection of unbreakable decorations - wooden stars, felt animals etc - and it looked lovely (if I say so myself) so we had it again last year. It also doesn't take up any room in our smallish living room which was a boon when we were hosting last year. Next door now has a kitten who spends a lot of time in our house so we have an excuse to use it again this year 🎅

Did I just say "it was a boon"? Shoot me now.

Filleto · 29/09/2022 19:11

I have one tree that’s mostly clear or white glass baubles that I’ve collected over the years and another that’s multicoloured. The children get a tree decoration from Father Christmas every year so they each have a mini tree in their room with all of their own decorations on.

Ohuhu · 29/09/2022 21:29

I love a good charity shop rummage, so all my decs (and the tree itself) have been built up from charity shops over the years. Come December, I like having a hunt for a couple more to add to the collection and replace some of the less loved.

That said, my tree is quite cohesive. I like my tree to look like it's from the Victorian era, and my decs are very traditional and old-fashioned in gold, red and green, with no plastic except for the artificial candles. I love it.

ForTheLoveOfSleep · 29/09/2022 21:32

Our house theme this year is Christmas in Toy Town. The tree however is never themed. We literally go crazy on it.

ideasmirrour · 30/09/2022 13:20

I have quite a lot of decorations collected over the years - enough to change things about a bit each year. Last year DD insisted on “traditional” red, gold and white with white lights; but this year I’m insisting on my multicolour bling theme with coloured lights, pink, blue, green and purple decorations and all the slightly garish ones. Mind you, we gave a new kitten this year, so it’s possible that this year’s theme ends up being “chewed and broken” 😂

Longbarn5 · 30/09/2022 13:26

I have various collections in different colours so do vary the tree decs each year. If we were starting completely again I would probably go with red and silver

Always4Brenner · 30/09/2022 14:08

Snow capped as I called it decorations I like it as it.

somebody2lava · 30/09/2022 14:52

About 7-8 years ago I started collecting vintage grass baubles as I suddenly realised how wasteful it was to change colour schemes etc. so I add a few more each year, both vintage and new from tk max and paper chase etc. so my tree is a rotating flocked tree so ash the baubles are properly displayed. I love it! ❤️
