I know we start the Poncetastic thread in September but we all know that you have start your Poncetastic preparations early so I thought we could have a prequel type thread for the next month.

So what's everyone planning? 🎄🎄🎄

@SlatternIsMyMiddleName
This is mark 1 done in summer fabric sewn onto paper. The instructions said to use iron on interfacing but I don’t have so I bodged it. The tree decorations will be probably 2 inch birds and the bunting ones will be in silver wrapping paper and be various sizes.

Absolutely love these @Trumpton Do you think they will last for more than a year?

@VivaJen
They will last forever!
But I will make the bunting ones from paper and pass them on when I am fed up with them.
I am hoping that they will look like this but in silver and gold but I do like the bright colours….hmmm red and green ?

@Trumpton what was your theme last year...any chance of some pics please?

lucysmam · 02/09/2022 19:48

@Trumpton how difficult are the birds to fold? I need to have a think further than popcorn garlands & paper chains if we really can't get anything from the loft.

Trumpton · 02/09/2022 19:53

Last year’s theme was “No place like gnome”

Huge Thank you to @TheWoollybacksWife for the amazing tea cosy!

@lucysmam
The birds are not difficult to fold at all.
9 year dgd is helping me. 5 year old dgd is trying to get me to make teeny-tiny ones.

lucysmam · 02/09/2022 19:57

Thank you, I'll have a look for a couple of tutorials to have "up my sleeve" as it were. Maybe we could have an entirely papercrafted Christmas if it comes to it 🤔

Zireael · 02/09/2022 20:24

Place marking!

We are hosting Christmas this year and I will definitely do some poncing!

PS... I love Pinterest!

Trumpton · 02/09/2022 20:38

These were the tree decorations for DDs and DS

Love everything @Trumpton!!

BeastOfBODMAS · 02/09/2022 20:51

@Trumpton those birds are lovely, you might have inspired me to try and make something with the fancy paper leftover from my wedding invitations (which were never sent because Covid)

legosunqueen · 02/09/2022 22:05

@Dillidilly count me in for the read along 🌲🎄

Blixem · 03/09/2022 06:57

I lost track of the read along last year so I'd be up for it @Dillidilly.

It feels like autumn is here, its all rainy and dark outside and I'm making bramble jelly.

I read all the poncetastic threads last year but forgot to add my creations, I made a tree skirt and this year I've got the material to make matching cushion covers.

Wolfcub · 03/09/2022 08:39

Definitely yes please to read along chronicles although I didn't finish it last year I definitely got 3/4 through.
Might not have much time for poncing this year but would like to make my own wreath again

Love the crochet Christmas trees they look fab

DanceWithYourBalloon · 03/09/2022 08:48

I've been itching for the poncetastic thread for a few days now so I'm glad this will keep me going until then.

I'm basically going to try and finish all the projects I bought the materials for last Christmas:

  • Finish decoupaging Xmas coasters
  • See table runner and napkins
  • Few knitted things like mini Xmas jumpers instead of gift tags.

Will also be extremely pregnant by Xmas day so am really going to make the effort in advance this year.

DanceWithYourBalloon · 03/09/2022 08:49

Sew not see

TheWoollybacksWife · 03/09/2022 10:30

Wow @Trumpton it's lovely to see your tea cosy "in action"

MrsCrimbo74 · 03/09/2022 11:02

Love this thread! I always do a theme for wrapping Christmas presents for the kids in the family and friends kids, my theme last year was Christmas trees, so the presents are wrapped inside the trees.

I have made my mincemeat, I used up some dried cranberries and it was lovely and jewel-like. Never done it before so fingers crossed 🤞

Does anyone have any recipes (or ideas, I don’t mind being the Guinea pig) for festive bread? I was thinking it’s a cost effective way to get a baking fix (bread flour is still 85p in Lidl)
I like an onion bread, would it be madness to add sage? (And make sausage sandwiches!)

TheWoollybacksWife · 04/09/2022 15:39

@BeastOfBODMAS I've got the Paul Hollywood bread book and there's nothing that is listed as "Festive" or "Christmas" but there is a recipe for Stilton and Bacon bread if that floats your boat?

Jackson's did a sage and onion bread a couple of years ago at christmas, it was lovely with leftovers! Please give it a go and report back.

Sweet bread might be nice too, cinnamon and raisin or christmas pudding fruit bread?

BeastOfBODMAS · 05/09/2022 07:45

Thank you both, I will make the sage and onion next week when I have guests to feed and report back.
Stilton and bacon bread is probably not vegan enough for my tastes but would be good for entertaining. I hosted Christmas Day breakfast last year, maybe a bacon and mushroom loaf turned into eggy bread would be fun.

AnotherCountryMummy · 07/09/2022 09:35

Hello, long time lurker, but would love to join this thread and get poncing! Bramble jelly is on this weekend's list and Christmas Chronicles arriving tomorrow ✨️

LiamNeesonIsADerryGirl · 07/09/2022 12:26

Hello everyone, do any of you have a go to/beginners guide to making your own flavoured alcohol and jams? I'd love to give them a go but don't know where to start!
