Preparing for Poncetastic 2022

I know we start the Poncetastic thread in September but we all know that you have start your Poncetastic preparations early so I thought we could have a prequel type thread for the next month.

So what's everyone planning? 🎄🎄🎄

My interpretation of poncing has always been - unnecessary but still want to do it anyway crafting/ cooking/ diy.

I recall the original thread years ago from which the name came but I’m an amateur at poncing so there are much more knowledgeable and dedicated MNers on here who can advise.

I'm on the lookout for baskets to make hampers. So far my filler ideas are bramble jelly (made), blackberry gin, biscotti, chilli jam and coffee. Most of that I can make so I will be looking out for nice looking coffee containers ( I think I saw some in Lidl last year that were little wooden barrels).

The Works tends to do baskets at a not-bad price.

Poncing goes beyond crafting. It's an exuberant (and perhaps slightly tongue in cheek) embrace of the details of Christmas, using OTT Pinterest type visuals as an inspiration.

Frankly I’m disappointed if you haven’t woven your own baskets by now.

on that note will you accept someone who is a Nigel novice and thinks her ultimate achievement is a home made pudding, cake and wreath?

When my mum discovered Pinterest, DH managed to convince her it was French and pronounced Pant-ray

I want to make small paper bunting for my tree from Christmas/Carol sheet music, either printed off myself or (unlikely) found on a charity shop!

Would people like me to do another Read Along Thread for Nigel's The Christmas Chronicles this year?

I would! I've been getting it out every December for the last few years, it's a vital part of Christmas now.

My poncing - such as it is - has begun.
I've got 4 (yes, 4..) autumn/winter candles on order. I have 1 burning atm - le jardin retrouve cuir de ruisse. Glorious 💙
I've ordered some turtle doves wrist warmers for myself for the colder days.
I've got 4 lots of beautiful body cream and shower gels (all wintery autumnal scents) ready for the chilly days.
I have Nigel Slaters Christmas chronicles and will start reading in November.
I've got some Christmassy novels to read and am hoping the Carol concerts and Xmas events are on this year.
I think k we will all need a lot of self care this year xxxxx

@Dillidilly yes! I would definitely enjoy a read along again (and hopefully get further this time).

The girls are off to the cinema with their dad tomorrow afternoon so I'm going to use at least some of the (unexpected) time alone in the house to get out my "Mum book" and properly look at where I am planning wise & look at my diary/school calendar to see where pre-make-able things will fit in.

I've gone mega poncey this year. I was very lucky to be given a chunk of money to put towards a hobby to improve my mental health. So I've just started making stained glass. Everybody is getting stained glass Christmas presents this year! I love the northern lights so this is my first "proper" project that I made today. Not festive as such, but definitely winter themed. ❄️! Is not perfect but for my fourth project , and first proper pattern I'm quite happy with him.

And I'm a bit addicted to beautiful sheets of glass. The Colours and textures are just amazing and then I buy it and feel terrible cutting it up 🤷🏼‍♀️

I've also bought 3 x2kh boxes of heroes. They were mega cheap, £9.99 each in farm foods so as I got them with the huge shop and had a voucher it worked out at £9 each for 2kg! Had to lock them away to stop me eating them 🙀

@Dillidilly yes I would go for a read along, last year baby came early and rudely interrupted my leisure time

I would LOVE to do the read along. Saw the thread last year and had kept an eye out for a slightly reduced copy but only managed to get one not at full price back in July, think it was around the £15 mark. Really looking forward to seeing the fruits of everyone's poncing, stained glass sounds next level awesome, wow!!!

I failed at the read-along last year. I'd love another go!

Definitely yes to another read along @Dillidilly I started last year but then everything got a bit hectic!

Christmas cake was baked at the weekend and I'm going to do the pudding on Monday

I shall happily start the 2022 Chronicles thread in mid October again, to allow late-comers time to beg, borrow or steal a copy ready to start reading on November 1st!
I have a beautiful, deeply un-Nigel candle that was a lovely present from my last year's pupil and I shall enjoy remembering them as I read.

I'm another one who bought my Christmas Chronicles book cheaply (eBay) with the intention of reading along and ended up dropping out as things got busy so @Dillidilly I would also love another read along thread this year.

I think I decided yesterday that the Christmas something that I make for my mum and sister is going to be a small, crochet Christmas tree decorated with small pom-poms and possibly beads.
I have polystyrene cones that I have no idea what to do with so I'll use those as a base.
