I know we start the Poncetastic thread in September but we all know that you have start your Poncetastic preparations early so I thought we could have a prequel type thread for the next month.

So what's everyone planning? 🎄🎄🎄

St Paul’s? 😉 although the Shard would actually be doable but not pretty. Go on Pinterest, gingerbread architecture is serious on there. I’ve definitely seen Tower Bridge, the Colosseum and Hogwarts. Gave me some insight into my retirement.

Deckthewallswithpaintandplaydough · 20/09/2022 10:24

Thanks!!

HoHoJ0 · 20/09/2022 19:21

@AMessageToYouRuby I’ve been doing that buttered rum cake for a few years. We’re not huge fruit cake fans but I think it’s delicious. I made one for my lovely neighbours one year and they declared it better than M&S and have requested one every year since!

lucysmam · 21/09/2022 20:28

Have any of you ever successfully made sugar mice like the ones you can buy? We did a test run batch of a bbc good food recipe last weekend but they didn't dry out hard like I hoped they would, even left out under a tea towel for almost 4 days 🤷‍♀️

TheWoollybacksWife · 21/09/2022 20:45

Wow @lucysmam that is dedicated poncing. I've only ever bought sugar mice.

I started soaking my fruit this week. That's the extent of my poncing so far

lucysmam · 21/09/2022 20:49

🤣 I do like a challenge @TheWoollybacksWife & dd2 was very keen to try them!

roopeedoopeedooo · 21/09/2022 22:07

Today I made a Father Christmas from stained glass, going to route an oak base to stand him on and sit a tea light candle behind him I think. Then gift him to my mum for Christmas.

Does anybody have a good recipe for rum balls? I'm absurdly addicted to them and last year supply was sporadic o say the least.

Wow I love that Father Christmas

VivaJen · 22/09/2022 03:02

Wow @roopeedoopeedooo that is impressive!

@lucysmam I've never made sugar mice but could you pop them in a really low oven for a little while?

Can't believe I missed this years poncing thread start!
I'm a bit behind this year 😬

I've been trying to perfect my hazelnut and orange chocolate biscotti recipe, which I've sort of done now after three trial batches. They're not pretty as I didn't get the cutting them up timing quite right but oo they are delicious especially dunked in my latte 😀
I've also just bought a felt advent stocking sewing kit to make for my newest gc , so was going to sew one a day to space out the poncing. I've made other gc them previously so keeping up that and I like that they can keep using them as they grow.
I will also do the Nigel chronicles readalong again in November.

This is the image of the kit I'm using, it looks easy enough. I think I'll start next week sometime.

Is there an official thread or has this become it? I can't remember the date it starts!

My sloe gin has been started and I'm trying out a new fruitcake recipe soon.

Wicca123 · 23/09/2022 19:51

Don't worry, no one is late. Official Poncetastic Thread does not start until the 25th. Gather your pine cones, ribbons, fairy lights and holly and we will begin shortly

This is amazing!! Do you sell them?

somebody2lava · 24/09/2022 10:04

@MuffinFeatures

Ive make changed, but don't sell the stained glass right now as I'm still learning but I will be selling them soon. I'm getting better every day but I could never sell anything less than perfect. In a lot of ways I'm my own what critic!

Working on a grinch hand next and possibly another arctic/northern lights scene.

I've recently done a quick check of what gifts I've got and I'm delighted to have found some advent calendars I'd bought in January in the sales. Not chocolate ones but three beautiful ones filled with 24 wooden tree decorations that I paid £4 each for. Will be keeping one and gifting them to my sisters as early Christmas presents. A hot chilli sauce one. A harry potter vinyl pop that's going for £60 this year (!). And I've been buying bits for my daughter, she's a teenager so I got her lots of Christmas themed cosmetics from Morphe and Revolution so I've got enough to make her a Christmas advent. I've worked out my god budget for this year and is going to be tighter but should still be a lovely time.

Good morning everyone. Does anyone have any nice recipes or suggestions for doing something with four lovely quinces? There's the pickled quince in Christmas Chronicles but not feeling that inspired by it.
Thank you!

Trumpton · 12/10/2022 08:35

@PooterLoop
i have having a mooch around and think microwave quince paste/ membrillo might be the way to go.

glasshole · 12/10/2022 17:09

I've spent today going through my glass scraps and have started shaping my little off cuts and spare bits into festive angels. I'm going to donate these to the local cats and dogs home to fund raise at their festive fair. Some will be set to hang on a tree or in a window and some will free stand as tea light holders.

Love a bit of Christmas crafting 🎄
