I know we start the Poncetastic thread in September but we all know that you have start your Poncetastic preparations early so I thought we could have a prequel type thread for the next month.

So what's everyone planning? 🎄🎄🎄

Would people like me to do another Read Along Thread for Nigel's The Christmas Chronicles this year?

yes please @Dillidilly I fell off the thread early last year.

Peridot1 · 01/09/2022 10:24

Yes please to the read along @Dillidilly. I was full of good intentions last year but didn’t even get going.

love the stained glass @roopeedoopeedooo. That’s beautiful.

NoWordForFluffy · 01/09/2022 10:29

EBay is fab for reasonably-priced copies of Christmas Chronicles. I got a new one for about £14 for my mum. But there's a few cheaper second hand ones usually.

lifelongfrugaleer · 01/09/2022 11:55

I got a secondhand one from world of books, looks like an old library one but I don’t mind , was about &8 in the summer

CrazyBaubles · 01/09/2022 13:05

Mine was second hand / used on eBay around this time last year for £9. Looks like it's never been opened before though.

I've gone mega poncey this year. I was very lucky to be given a chunk of money to put towards a hobby to improve my mental health. So I've just started making stained glass. Everybody is getting stained glass Christmas presents this year! I love the northern lights so this is my first "proper" project that I made today. Not festive as such, but definitely winter themed. ❄️! Is not perfect but for my fourth project , and first proper pattern I'm quite happy with him.

And I'm a bit addicted to beautiful sheets of glass. The Colours and textures are just amazing and then I buy it and feel terrible cutting it up 🤷🏼‍♀️

I've also bought 3 x2kh boxes of heroes. They were mega cheap, £9.99 each in farm foods so as I got them with the huge shop and had a voucher it worked out at £9 each for 2kg! Had to lock them away to stop me eating them 🙀

That’s beautiful!

I went to a glass shop on Tuesday and they were selling buckets of off cuts of glass, might be worth seeing if somewhere near you sells them too.

Nagado · 01/09/2022 15:12

@roopeedoopeedooo That is just beautiful! I’d buy that. Will you post the other gifts you make please? I’d love to see them.

RainbowZebraWarrior · 01/09/2022 15:38

@roopeedoopeedooo that is awesome. I love stained glass and I love the Northern lights ❤

@Dillidilly yes please to another read along. I only had the audible book last year. This time round I've found a bargain on ebay

@Chevyimpala67 I'm in love with my cashmere fingerless gloves already. They will be gorgeous and cosy while I'm flicking through the pages of the Christmas Chronicles. I've been pre poncing with them on already - see pic 😊

Poncing done so far here includes chilli jam (which I've just realised I've been making for 25 years!) Also chutney and pickled jalapenos. Tomorrow I'm making beeswax candles (Dad is a beekeeper) and I'm also making some soy candles with bay essential oil. Oh and soaps - honey and goats milk. Brilliant for the skin!

I've just ordered my digital copy of the Booths Christmas book - I'll be there in store for a hard copy of course!

I'm going to try some new stuffing recipes. We didn't like Nigellas gingerbread one at all so maybe something with more herbs

lifelongfrugaleer · 01/09/2022 16:07

Have you got a link to the booths book? I can only find the 2021

MrsElf · 01/09/2022 16:36

Wow roopeedoopeedooo that looks fabulous!

So far my poncing preparations have been underwhelming - I bleached pine cones, thinking paint & glitter would show up better. Two perfect paint drying days and a bottle of bleach later, and... no discernible result.

My inherited sewing machine is finally getting some use 7 years later as I had a beginners sewing lesson, which has given me plenty of ideas. So far, results are one dodgy dog bandana, and about 10 metres of various fabrics that I will definitely use for the many lovely projects I am imagining.

I intended to make pheasant and swan feather decorations last year, and although I must admit vases of feathers looked good, they weren’t exactly skilful. Not sure what I could do with fabric to get such good results for such minimal effort! Alternative to wrapping paper, possibly?

Yeah, me too.

I tend to order from the digital one first thing in the morning on the first day, then go in later to pick up a hard copy! It's my favourite day in October!

JubileeTissues · 01/09/2022 18:57

The Booths book was on a sponsored ad on Facebook. I've just tried to find it but since I clicked through it probably won't show me the ad again

lifelongfrugaleer · 01/09/2022 18:57

Booths is a long way from me, I have to make do with the digital one

lifelongfrugaleer · 01/09/2022 18:57

Ah ok

BeastOfBODMAS · 01/09/2022 19:34

@MrsElf your pine cone escapades made me laugh, sorry! Sounds like something I would do.
Gift bags would be a nice thing to sew, especially for irregular shaped things that don’t wrap well. Or you could arrange some fabric swag/drape decorations with just a few loose stitches, then unpick and re-use after?

TheWoollybacksWife · 01/09/2022 20:19

@MrsElf what about some Christmas bunting? Either done "properly" with double sided triangles or cut out with pinking shears and just sewn across the top.

Maybe a Christmas tree skirt?

Brilliant

VivaJen · 01/09/2022 20:28

@MrsElf you get extra ponce points if you make your own fabric gift wrap! I love the Japanese furoshiki style

Here's the Booths link: www.surveymonkey.co.uk/r/GP3M6JS

KingBarry · 02/09/2022 09:04

Ready to join the poncing! I've started some cross-stitching that I'm going to give out as presents and I've got out my Christmas planner.

I would also love to join the Christmas chronicles read along.

Trumpton · 02/09/2022 09:20

Need to make 100+ origami birds as bunting for the Christmas sun room where we eat Christmas lunch. I have a new theme every year.
I am starting folded fabric birds for adult DDs Christmas tree decorations. ( that’s a work in progress)

Trumpton · 02/09/2022 09:28

@MrsElf
simple bunting. Cut out with pinking shears and threaded onto tape ( cheap as chips from eBay)
