Mincepiedermama · 22/12/2007 18:22

I'm banking on Christmas eve being a little quieter though I know they may have run out of stuff. I detest supermarket shopping at the best of times.

EffiePerine · 22/12/2007 18:30

We once wandered into Tescos n Xmas eve to get a few bits (don't do the big Xmas shop) and it was stripped bare. We ended up with 2 lamb chops and a bag of carrots for Xmas day. We had plenty of booze the essentials though

quickdrawmcgraw · 22/12/2007 18:38

Our local big grocery shop had a queue of 25 trollies at each of its 12 checkouts at midnight last night!!

cece · 22/12/2007 19:20

Well 7.20 and no sign of Sainsbury van or delivery

Now wondering how many subsitutes I will have...

needmorecoffee · 22/12/2007 19:22

I'm sorry 5goldrings but I'm laughing to much I spilled coffee everywhere!

needmorecoffee · 22/12/2007 19:24

you should come here Peachy and send DH to tesco's/sainsbury's/take your pick. We could sit and drink tea in a civillsed fashion

FlossALumpOfPud · 22/12/2007 19:30

We went today. I have broken from the norm this year and not brought 'little bits' as I go. I did it in one big lot, thinking I would buy less. I didn't. I've just been feeling queasy about the cost of it all instead, where as usually I am blissfully unaware...

Anyone found there seems to be a shortage of tubs of cheesy footballs and twigletts? None to be found anywhere (well, not in asda or sainsbury anyway)

MrsWeasleysmagicmincepies · 22/12/2007 19:32

We popped to our local market today and the stall holders were all cheery (the shoppers didnt look overly so) then I popped into a plants shop which only opened just over a year ago.
I dont go in there often today was only my second every visit inside (I'm not good with plants ).

The very busy woman was jolly and cheerful had a smile and a slice of cake for everyone and we ending up spending £55 and got some amazing gifts (which were original, different and lovely.) We only went in for some bird nuts

It made a lovely change from rushing around a big shopping centres being pushed and shoved.

Oh and on the way home DS and I stopped to listen to a brass band playing carols.

RIELOVESBACARDI · 22/12/2007 19:38

we wish them a merry xmas but we know what we mean the joys of woolies on the entertainment counter

Swedes2Turnips1 · 22/12/2007 19:38

I went to Tesco last night at about 1.30amam. It was quite an experience. There were one or two people pushing, not one, but two trolleys (and their faces told you that they would be back with yet another trolley before closing on Christmas eve) and there were people buying just a bunch of flowers and some chocs. It was all very odd. Very strange unloading your car at 2.30am. I was very glad I did it on waking this morning - it means we have the whole weekend free which feels lovely.

FrostyTheSnowman · 22/12/2007 19:40

We went to Tescos today as was dreading leaving it any later and was most surprised to get everything on the list apart from prawns. There was not one home shopper trolley going round like previous years and we never had to queue-went through the DIY till but could have gone straight to any till. Previous years we have queued down the aisles and been fed chocolates to calm everyone down. Am going back tomorrow as craving prawns at the moment so got to get some.

DoesntChristmasDragOn · 22/12/2007 20:12

I went for my traditional trip to Waitrose to smirk at all the people queuing at tills whilst I shimmy round with my hand held scanner

bahKewcHumbug · 22/12/2007 20:18

M&S at 11am when I picked up the turkey was quite civilised. Walked over so I didn;t have to find a parking space and gave all the staff a good laugh at my turkey perched on DS's trike (the one with the parent handle - I wasn't expecting it to cycle home itself)

cece · 22/12/2007 20:27

Sainsburys were due to deliver between 6 and 7 pm. Now 8.30 and no sign of them... [twiddles thumbs]

myrrhthamoo · 22/12/2007 20:41

I had my Tesco shop delivered this afternoon - a few subs but nothing too ridiculous.

Went to M&S this morning to pick up the turkey I'd pre-ordered, now that was madness. I was in the queue for 20 minutes. The woman behind me said to the woman behind her "oh, I've forgotten cream" so the woman (behind her, are you following?) said "oh, nip and get some - leave your basket here." So off she went, came back - they were bonding in the queue about how mad it all was. Then woman behind me (the one who'd forgotten the cream) got to the checkout (I was bagging up my turkey) and said "while I'm here..." and started getting out reams of paper and wanting to pay off her M&S account. The girl on the till didn't know how to do it, and had to ring for a supervisor, who then started explaining that she couldn't do it at a food till, well why not says forgot-the-cream woman. Good samaritan go-get-your-cream woman was spitting feathers...I think till rage was about to kick off

And this evening, while I was thinking smugly to myself that I was done...I realised I have barely a dribble of washing up liquid left and 3cms of foil. So back into the fray tomorrow...

Santasmissyontheside · 22/12/2007 20:47

cece any sign yet?

cece · 22/12/2007 21:22

Nope

Anyone seen a lost Sainsburys delivery van?

According to the customer care line they should be phoning the store and then phoning us back to tell us where it is. That was 20 mins ago

LyraSilvertinsel · 22/12/2007 21:23

You don't get that with Ocado

cece · 22/12/2007 21:27

No I would have booked Ocado but all the slots were given out to their regular shoppers so none left for us that only use them once a year.

cece · 22/12/2007 22:24

Finally turned up at 20 to 10.

Even more annoyingly most of the veg is missing.

They will be getting a very shirty phone call tomorrow.

HunkerGotLeprosyFromAFact · 22/12/2007 22:27

DH just got back from Sainsbury's.

He wanted to go

LyraSilvertinsel · 22/12/2007 22:30

Cece, demand your money back. That really is crap.
