I took one look in Asda carpark and went to Aldi instead. Much, much quieter and still got everything I wanted, including a box of 6 Simpsons crackers (I won't buy boxes of 12 when there is only 5 or 6 to dinner).

foofi · 22/12/2007 22:36

I wasn't planning on shopping until Monday. Some of you seem to get everything very early!

I HEART U Sainsbury's Home Delivery Man

With all the nightmarish stuff happening with home delivery, thought you might like to hear that there are some really good fellas out there.

It is ds1's birthday sleepover party tonight. I have 6 boys staying over, and the party was 'on order' from Saino's - food for tonight, snacks and huge fry up. Also on order was 'Christmas'.

3pm today I get a phone call. Sain's have got a technical problem and can't deliver until tomorrow. Nightmare. I have too many children to cram into one car and they're getting hungry. I explain the extremity of the dilemma to the very helpful girl on the phone: it's ds1's birthday and without the delivery it ain't gonna happen. Also on order are cereals we've run out of that are important breakfasts for ds2 who is diabetic. ... So to take a delivery midmorning is not going to be the most desirable thing.

On one of the busiest shopping days of the year, with their computers down they came through for me. They managed to get the list through, did the shop, brought it to my door - with no paperwork as they hadn't got any futher details. They are pretty much on the button with what they brought and are only going to charge half for it. Damn! why didn't I order lots of alcohol?!

The delivery guy was great, wished my lad happy birthday, told the rest of them to behave for me and gave my lad a couple of quid.

I totally heart sainos.

bramblebooks · 22/12/2007 23:21

cece, hope yours has come by now. xx

PaulaYatesbiggestfan · 22/12/2007 23:29

hmmm bramble - same 'technica problem; same date last year for me from Sainsburys

waitrose is the way to go fabulous customer service NO substitutions - no silly lies around christmas delivery orders

cece · 23/12/2007 08:44

Lyra - it will be DH phoing and believe me the poor person on the other end of the phone won't know what hit them. He is a master complainer. Once he starts there is no letting go till he is 110% satisfied with their recompense .

He is scary when he complains. Never shouts but just goes on and on and on till they realise he isn't going to give up.

nowbringussomeJammypudding · 23/12/2007 08:53

cece - are you married to my DH?

tribpot · 23/12/2007 08:56

I went to Waitrose yesterday afternoon. It was busy but bearable, everyone being very civilised.

Tutter · 23/12/2007 08:56

tutter 4 ocado
4eva

cece · 23/12/2007 09:00

jammypudding - maybe?!

We were bumped off a flight from Sri Lanka once (someone in the office had clearly taken the moentry compensation for this)

5 hours later and the reginal manager having to bring in a lawyer we went home first class on the next available flight

cece · 23/12/2007 09:03

cece not 4 sainsburys

This is only the second time I have ordered online from them and they cocked it up both times

BadKittenInAPearTree · 23/12/2007 09:12

Utterly insane isn't it. we slipped into tescos yesterday to get a couple of bits. At the self serve checkout one older chap somehow jumped the queue. I don't think he meant to as he looked a bit bewildered. 3 lads started swearing at him and puffing themselves up like little puffer fish. I told them to breathe and idiotically stepped between them to calm it down. Older chap started talking back. I told him just to finish what he was doing and go. Lucky it didnt escalate really but I was so cross with those lads for making a fuss about nothing.

PeachyHasAFiggyPudInTheOven · 23/12/2007 09:53

Ah if only waitrose was the way to go- despite being wedges between 2 cities (Cardiff and Newport) we don't actually have access to Waitrose or Ocado.

We're offf to Asda now- if we're not back by tomorrow send out a rescue aprty......

Crunchie · 23/12/2007 10:08

Where do you lot shop??

Seriously I can't believe you shopping at midnight quese etc.

I went on Friday mid am to Tesco. Yes it was busy, parked not far from teh door, trolley no problem. All tills open, only one full trolley in front. Only forgot one thing

Went back to Sainsburys (prescription needed) at 7pm Friday. Empty tills abounded

Popped into M&S on Sat am to get a couple of bbits, busyt, but not rudely so, one person in front at the till!!

Obviously you all need to move to Colchester or something

kerryk · 23/12/2007 11:49

when we came out tesco and started loading the shopping we (stupidly) put the trolley in the space next to us so we were blocking it.

it was possibly the only space left in the car park and it took me a few minutes to realise some man in a big 4x4 wanted to park in it, for a second i thought he might just run me over but once i moved the trolley and he parked he said (in a joking way) that the shop would be filled with "people like me" today.

he had no idea

OK now back from Tescos to get the missing veg form my online shop.

Shop opened at 10 am. I got to car park at 9.40 am. I got one of the last parking spaces

Tescos had let people in prior to 10 am and the queues at the till were rather long as they didn't start serving till 10 am. The cheer went up once the tills were opened from the 8 trolley deep crowds at each till with full trolleys.

When I left at 10.30 I had to queue to leave the car park and the queue to get into the car park was unbelievable.

I went to tesco last night at around 5/6pm. It was fine.

they even had helpers dressed up in Santa and Snowmen suits, to help the customers.

cece · 23/12/2007 12:12

well obviously they are all at my Tesco

willow · 23/12/2007 12:15

DS has just come back from our local supermarket declaring, "anyone would think they'd just declared war". We only needed a few bits, so he took the sane decision that we could live without them for another day.

wotz · 23/12/2007 12:54

In our town M&S security guards were called....
Some 'things' had sold out and shoppers were taking stuff out of other shoppers baskets/trollies if they had more than their share of goodies.

MIL's friend was in the store while it was going on.

M&S shoppers are fecking scary!

Blandmum · 23/12/2007 12:55

Jezz, it wasn't like that at out M and S this morning. It was all very civilied. They even had free mini santas to nibble on whil ewyou waited to pick up your stuff

PeachyHasAFiggyPudInTheOven · 23/12/2007 13:00

Wasn't too abd in Asda, long queues yes with a few old biddies complaining about what so many epole were doing- er same as you love LOL! but nothing untowards. Got all we needed, just pick up tomorrow now.

wotz · 23/12/2007 13:06

lol @ ' free mini santas to nibble on while you waited to pick up your stuff' hope the mini Santas didn't mind.

yulemoonfiend · 23/12/2007 13:14

top tip for M&S foodhall - they will let you pay for stuff - so long as it does't need weighing - at any of the other tills in the other departments. Hardly any queues! Saved my sanity on friday, buying birthday cake for ds!
People who shop in M&S foodhall may have more money but still saw lots of antic-social behaviour
