I went to my local greengrocer at 10 this morning, noone was about - thankfully as its a REALL small shop. Got all my veg and then went to the butcher for the meat, not much a a Q, only 3 ppl in front, got my meat and now at home feeling smug! Prob cost more than if i went to Tesco or sainsburys, but much quieter and quicker!

MellowChristmasEveryone · 23/12/2007 13:57

One thing our Tesco was sold out completely was Peas!

The Tesco has been there for around 7 years and I still haven't found the ketchup isle!? [

I will no doubt visit local shop for missed bits, they never close.

I forgot the chicken breast Arrrrgghh! Doing a homemade chinese chicken and sping onion soup and forgot the chicken Guh! Enjoying myself tomorrow, just browsing (dont forget the chicken) and listening to the carol singers and brass bands etc.

QueenBhannae · 23/12/2007 19:23

We took one of the taxis and parked in the taxi bay right outside the shop (cheeky)There were no spaces at all in the car park and they had army cadets packing your shopping for you!
I actually paid him not to after he squashed a huge fresh cream cake under some gin.
What do 16year old lads know about packing?Who thought that would be a good idea?

BaubleMonkey · 23/12/2007 19:25

I did Tesco this afternoon and it was MURDER!

If I've forgotten anything at all then we are just going to have to go with out - no way am I going back there again before Christmas Day.

Makes you wonder how much we all eat over the festive period, and how much ends up on the landfill.

trying hard not to be smug but Ocado came bloody early tonight! (sorry Cece) and brought everything (no turkey twizzlers instead of, er, turkey)

so I gave the guy a tip which I never normally do cos I'm obv a tight middle class cow...

and now am stuffing face with Waitrose mince pies (hurrah!) and drinking low alcohol lager (boo!)

I was in Tesco a couple of years ago on Christmas Eve to pick up three items I'd forgotten about - 2 cartons of custard and ice-cream. I picked up the first two items fine and was leaning over the freezer to get out the ice cream, with my basket on my arm, when I was aware of someone standing rather too close to me - I turned round and a woman was stealing a carton of custard out of my basket! She looked very indignant when I asked her what on earth she was doing, and replied, "well you have two and there aren't any left...."

PeachyHasAFiggyPudInTheOven · 23/12/2007 23:09

Was chuffed in ASda to note they were summoning poeple who ahd aprked in disabled spots )parking at that centre never sufficient in any season) without a abdge back to their car tp move it. If we can cope without a blue badge as an anomaly of the DLA system (2 asd kids, me with SPD atm as well but were assessed as not neeing a badge), then other people sure as hell can!

giggly · 23/12/2007 23:54

Ha Ha, dh punishment for him off and me working tomorrow is the last trip to M & S. I dont really need anything, but hey what he doesnt know will not kill him.

EricScrooge · 24/12/2007 00:00

Auntyspan - i used to work in retail and you wouldn't belive how common this is.

I once caught a woman emptying six items from someone elses trolley.

We challenged her after the customer saw her and started going mental.

They weren't even out of stock despite what she first claimed.

She was 'in a hurry' and saw someone else had picked up the same things as her and thought it would save her some time.

I have seen grown adults physically fighting over items/parking spaces/places in queuse - everything.

Some people go nuts at this time of year.

Twinklemegan · 24/12/2007 00:04

I blardy well hate people sometimes, especially fellow shoppers. Thank God my shopping is over and done with. Idiots the lot of them (except all of you of course).

EricScrooge · 24/12/2007 00:10

Staff won't be miserable as such - a lot of it will be tiredness.

I used to work silly hours this time of year and had so much to do and take in (with you own shopping and things to do as well at some point) that it is mentally and physically draining.

It's hard to look all perky and happy all the time when you are dog tired and know you only have one or two days off before it all kicks off again...............

Twinklemegan · 24/12/2007 00:13

I feel so so sorry for the staff with all those maniacs around.
