I'm a smug Ocado-ite as well but having slight irrational fright that they won't have got their act together and will actually have run out of Bigham's canapes and Duchy Organic Freshly Squeezed Clotted Double FreeRange Mince Pies...

Am being stupid right...? Nice Boden-dressed Ocado elves will know to put stuff aside for smug people and that everything had GONE when I updated my order last night means nothing?

Otherwise it's swimming with fishes for them obv.

Octo · 22/12/2007 17:39

Shop locally.

whenachildisbob · 22/12/2007 17:40

We did Asda a teatime yesterday and split the shop with a very nice coffee. Was quite civilised and friendly - and sweets at the doors from the greeters for the children which was useful bribery.

No one will deliver to us - our postcode isn't recognised as we live in the sticks. Tesco used to deliver to my neighbour v briefly but then got wise to just how far away we all were and pulled the plug

Ho hum....

I have a Sainsbury shop supposedly being delivered by 7 pm. We shall see...

Lilymaid · 22/12/2007 17:42

Everyone in Waitrose this morning was pleasant and helpful (staff and customers) apart from one male shopper. I got there at 9.05 and there was no space in super large car park and had to park in side road of business park. No trollies outside shop - had to beg one off someone leaving and then had to wait half and hour queuing for the checkout. DS is working (Saturday job) at John Lewis collection point and is incredibly busy with 50" plasma screen collections etc.

Blandmum · 22/12/2007 17:43

Mine arrived at 1.45 and we had a 1-2 slot booked (with Saisburys)

It iwas all fine, but there were quite a few substitutions. They were all OK.

The bloke who delivered it said that most people have substitutions.

sparklygothkat · 22/12/2007 17:44

the shops are terrible, me and misdee went last night and the shop was rammed, people were pushing and shoving. I only needed to get a few vegs and yorkshire puds (MIL has brought everything else) plus a few meals to see us through to thursday, but people were so rude, I got shoved out the way at the breaed aisle, and some bloke bashed into me with his crate of beer

I used to work in a supermarket and hated xmas time.

HappyChristmasWalrusIsOver · 22/12/2007 17:45

I went to Asda today, and as soon as I waliked in the door and was greeted by Gerry, who had a miucrophone headset and was booming Christmas greetings to harrassed shoppers, I wished I had been armed with a 12 bore.

LyraSilvertinsel · 22/12/2007 17:50

MB, my Ocado delivery had no substitutions. They're good like that (but cost twice as much as Sainsbury's).

EffiePerine · 22/12/2007 17:51

Tesco express in Islington, completely empty at 10am this morning . And they had sprouts.

sparklygothkat · 22/12/2007 17:52

BTW the ocado elves wear horrid uniforms.. my brother, BIL and SIL all work there.. pea green jackets with badly fitted trousers lol..

ShowOfHands · 22/12/2007 17:52

We're going to my parents' house for Christmas day and the ILs for boxing day so haven't had to brave the supermarket. It did take dh an extra hour to drive the 20 minutes home from work today as there is a queue two miles long outside the supermarket with people waiting for spaces.

Christmas = roast dinner, non? What the heck is happening?

I worked in a supermarket whilst doing my undergrad degree and on a day that it snowed very, very lightly indeed and panic buying ensued, two middle class women had fisticuffs over the last sliced white. Blood drawn and everything.

Blandmum · 22/12/2007 17:52

Was worried that they might substitute my turkey for a pack of Walkers Turkey flavoured crisps, so I'm picking that up from M and S tomorrow

LyraSilvertinsel · 22/12/2007 17:59

They're based in Hatfield aren't they sparkly? I grew up there.

DaisyMoo · 22/12/2007 18:04

I honestly wonder sometimes whether we'd be better off without Christmas, it seems to bring out the absolute worst in so many people. Bah humbug

fizzbuzz · 22/12/2007 18:05

Dr Northerner, I braved M&S at 9.30 am this morning..horrendous.

Drove into town on deserted roads, with no people, completely empty everywhere....

Because the whole world was in M&S. Only got 1/2 of what I wanted....just couldn't face the jam. It needed a traffic light system to move people

sparklygothkat · 22/12/2007 18:06

yes hatfield.

mozzybearandwean · 22/12/2007 18:06

Take boxes with you, shove everything in them as they come off checkout belt, saves faffing with bags

Obv this won't work if you make boxes too heavy though

Got my Tesco order today. delivery woman shoved everything at front door, all other drivers take them into kitchen for me. DS was also trying to escape through front door.

MrsGrinch · 22/12/2007 18:07

Oh MB - you might get Turkey Twizzlers.

Tasty

5goldrings4MONKEYBIRDs · 22/12/2007 18:09

Do Ocado even DO Turkey Twizzlers? I think not... Wicked of you, MrsGrinch, I think you'll find they'll send me, instead, a hand-poured candle, infused with the sweat of handreared certified birdflu free original Turkish turkey farmworkers...

PeachyHasAFiggyPudInTheOven · 22/12/2007 18:13

We have to go tomorrow (first day since pay day DH has jhad off owrk, not doable on own with boys) but apaprently newport was not too bad today when Dh ventured out to do his present shopping

have to collect an M&S order Monday sadly, but Dh will circle the car and will run in and out- at least a pre-booked collection slot

MrsGrinch · 22/12/2007 18:17

< bleurgh > The Turkey Twizzlers sound a better bet.

Tis worrying though I think, because at my local Tesco the home delivery 'shoppers' are all spotty 16 year-olds and I'm not sure they have the wherewithall to find good alternatives.

Well my 16 year old wouldn't have a clue about 'nice ham'

5goldrings4MONKEYBIRDs · 22/12/2007 18:19

And while you're all on, check out my Xmas entry in the Don't do this thread, with a highly relevant Sainsbury's related theme and all true... BTW DON'T do that...

SpacecadetLovesChristmas · 22/12/2007 18:21

I haave everything I need, I dont do Tesco etc if I can avoid it cos my poor dicky balance cant cope..but it would be information overload fo rme to go at this time of the year!
