My friend has already had it twice...she's waiting for the hat trick now! Especially bearing in mind how transmissible omicron is.

WreckTangled · 02/01/2022 09:21

Do you think it's different variants? I guess lots of people don't become immune to things but because it's so widespread we're seeing it more here. My friends vaccinated daughter caught mumps but that didn't make everyone go round saying the vaccine doesn't work.

NoWordForFluffy · 02/01/2022 09:44

Yeah, she apparently has a shite immune response to both having it and the vaccine, so she's pretty sure she'll get omicron. Her DD's symptoms are classic omicron (scratchy throat and sniffles).

HeyUpits2022 · 02/01/2022 09:45

Morning All.

Wreck our friend has had it twice, so I'd agree with you - it's the lack of immunity to the variants. It does worry me, especially as Omicron is so transmissible, and not so much the being ill element, more the disruption to everything when people need to self isolate.

70 hope you're on the mend soon, and you can taste things again soon.

Fluffy it's tree down day here too. DD is not impressed, and is begging to keep her tree up for another week.

ConstantlyChristmas · 02/01/2022 10:20

Crazy I hope you have a relaxing break. Wreck - we discovered we had a mouse a few christmases ago when we found a Lindt Father Christmas with his face gnawed off! The mouse completely ignored the Cadbury's!

ConstantlyChristmas · 02/01/2022 10:21

I meant to press return!
Happy New Year to everyone!
I hope your sense of taste returns soon 70!

70isaLimitNotaTarget · 02/01/2022 13:00

Ah Constantly you have a mouse with obvious taste Xmas Wink

I bought DS and DD those Cadbury Advent Calendars shaped like a tall house . They were £9-£10ish . There were Chomp, Curly Wurly , couple of mini Fudge , I think 3 Freddo , Dairy Milk chunk .
There were some stickers in each door .
Definately not worth the money , it'll be on my Don't Buy List next Christmas ( actually Advent Calendars are on the Don't Buy List , except DD Beauty Advent , that's still a Hell Yes )

NoWordForFluffy · 02/01/2022 17:31

We've just had curry with our leftover meat from yesterday. Bloody lovely it was too, and we've some left to freeze as well.

I need to go and collect a few bits from Asda and Matalan tomorrow and I think the kids would like to go to Tesco to spend their gift cards as well.

Our trees are down and it feels very dark in here, especially as our new curtains - a bargain from the Next sale - are up, and they're blackout / thermal ones, so no light leaking through from the street!

CrazyBaubles · 02/01/2022 18:10

Checking back in. The break away was what I needed - there's nothing quite like walls on the beach and sea air is there? My legs ache and poor DDog is exhausted but I'm glad we went.
Am now up to my eyes in boxes as I'm taking the decs down and having a little sort through because I think we have too many decorations. Will probably end up getting rid of about 2 things Xmas Grin

Big changes for next Christmas for me which should make it less stressful - I'm going to make sure I include them in my Christmas planner tomorrow when I fill it in.

Morning!

Well, yesterday's dry forecast was very wrong and our bedding got absolutely soaked while we were taking the trees down (by the time we noticed it was too late!). So it stayed out overnight in 30-40mph wind and is now dry. The darks washing, done yesterday, is now outside in the breeze and the towels are in. No more Christmas towels now...the house is de-Christmassed! 😭😭😭

I'm taking the kids to see Spider-Man later on, so that should be good. After we've been to spend their money, that is!

Good to see you back, Crazy...and you need another tree and more decorations, not fewer! 🎄🎄🎄🎄

Vasectomyreversalhopeful · 03/01/2022 09:11

Morning

You can't get rid of decorations crazy only add to them! I am sorry your Christmas was challenging.

We have storage bags arriving tomorrow so decs will come down after that.

Can't believe it is still a week until DS returns to school.

WreckTangled · 03/01/2022 09:20

Ds is back at school Wednesday. DD's school goes back Thursday but will have to see what her lft's say. I will wfh the full ten days because I think the government are talking shit and I don't want to pass it on to my colleagues.

We really enjoyed Spider-Man fluffy. So jealous, we're thoroughly fed up being stuck indoors. At least we're not spending money though. I've also been too tired to get anything done though, will try to do something today.

NoWordForFluffy · 03/01/2022 09:26

Yes, our two are back on Weds, Wreck.

I think 2021 was more of a Covid Christmas than 2020, seeing as it felt like way more people I know had it.

CrazyBaubles · 03/01/2022 14:42

I really want to go and see Spider-Man. Me and DH usually watch Marvel films together but he doesn't seem to be in any rush so I may go without him...

I got rid of a few decorations, ones I bought years ago that I didn't really like but that were all I could afford. I also had to bin a set of lights I loved - they were warm white lights inside red sparkly rubber baubles. They gave off a lovely glow but they were old fashioned fairy lights that got hot and this year I couldn't get them working no matter how many bulbs etc I tried.
I haven't got rid of any trees, although the main one we had is in the garden on cold weather and water life support as I think I may have killed him Xmas Sad
This year, if you include the 2 ceramic Christmas tree lamps, we had 7 trees Xmas Shock (2 real, 2 ceramic, one white twiggy thing, the small 2ft one for the landing and the slim prelit flocked one DH bought (that he's ridiculously proud of and wouldn't let me decorate because he wanted one that looks like a tree outside 🙄).

I've spent today dealing with the fall out of Christmas (our decision to run away to the seaside has apparently caused some offence amongst other drama) and clearing away stuff from all over my house. Just doing the last of it and then going to jump in the shower.

I am also realising I have too much craft stuff and need to make a concerted effort not to buy anything else until I've made some stuff and used up my stash except for Bothy Thread Christmas cards in the sale obviously

Hope everyone is having a nicer day than I am!

HeyUpits2022 · 03/01/2022 15:36

@70isaLimitNotaTarget

Do you put together an Advent Calendar for your DD? Or do you buy one?

I've been tidying up today and have got loads of bits and bobs if you do your own.

Let me know if you'd like some x

HeyUpits2022 · 03/01/2022 15:45

@CrazyBaubles I had a little sort out of decs too, I get a bit sentimental about them though.

Ignore the fall out if you can (although it must be hard) family dynamics are tricky to navigate at the best of times. It sounds as though the break was needed ((hug))

DD is back to school on Wednesday, and I'm back tomorrow. All the decs are boxed up ready to go up into the loft, the house is totally de-christmassed. Might treat myself to cheese and crackers for tea tonight 😋

NoWordForFluffy · 03/01/2022 17:31

@CrazyBaubles, are the Bothy cards in a sale?! I might have to get those and no more, as I also have too much!

Spider-Man was ace! Glad it was dark as I had a few blubbing moments! Xmas Blush

Crazy, I think you just have to hold firm and know you've done the right thing re then drama. Apparently the drama-causing people are carrying it on! Xmas Hmm At least you and DH are on the same page.

Vasectomyreversalhopeful · 03/01/2022 18:12

Ooh I want the Bothy cards too!

NoWordForFluffy · 03/01/2022 18:29

We're all doing well at not buying more cross stitch projects this year! 🤣🤣

Vasectomyreversalhopeful · 03/01/2022 18:48

I have done well so far! 3 days in and have bought nothing Grin

TheWoollybacksWife · 03/01/2022 19:03

I got £60 of vouchers for various wool shops/websites but I'm holding off using them as I've got enough wool to be going on with. I've had two parcels from Woolly Hugs to turn into blankets and I'm prioritising those first. My DDs both have pregnant friends and I'll be making them some baby bits so I'll probably spend some then. There's only so much room for wool in the house!

AuntLucy · 03/01/2022 19:08

If anyone finds themselves in a Paperchase which still stocks a letter C in their pretty velvet monogram tree ornaments, I would be v grateful if they'd grab it for me. Sold out online and I have the rest of the family sorted for next year, but not yet DS1😁

pussycatunpickingcrossesagain · 03/01/2022 19:13

Bothy Christmas cards, you say...

CrazyBaubles · 03/01/2022 20:35

🚨 Bothy Threads Wrendale Christmas cards are just under £8 on very crafty and cotton club crafts - but if you're going to buy any, go to Very Crafty because a lot of Bothy Threads kits are 40% off..... 🚨

I can't remember if I said but one of my Christmas presents was a set of knitting needles and a book to teach me how to knit so that will keep me busy and use up some wool.

Fluffy the drama on our end is ridiculous and I don't have the time or energy for it. DH is 110% on the same page which helps a lot.

WreckTangled · 03/01/2022 20:39

I can't be doing with anyone's drama ever. Whatever the issue is if they're going to act like children over it then I would be rolling my eyes and ignoring until they're over it. Honestly life is stressful enough without people being drama llamas. Give me a nice boring life please Grin
