It's really, really windy...worse than Eunice. And set to be like this for over 24 hours. I'm not sure my nerves will cope!

WreckTangled · 20/02/2022 08:54

Still out. Have posted an update on the third thread for storm Eunice. Have to get home again now.

MagratLancre · 20/02/2022 09:16

Hi all, can I join? Already planning for Christmas 2022!

WreckTangled · 20/02/2022 15:35

I'm baaaaaack! 52 hours in the end. Our sitting room is 13° 🥶

pussycatunpickingcrossesagain · 20/02/2022 15:53

Excellent news Wreck
It's quite blowy here, and icy cold outside I'm not doing that again today my nose is so cold I can't tell when it's dripping, that's bad isn't it? 🤦‍♀️

NoWordForFluffy · 20/02/2022 15:59

Phew, Wreck!

I can relate to that temperature. We couldn't get our lounge above that during The Beast from the East. It was hideous. I can empathise. Hopefully it warms quickly.

pussycatunpickingcrossesagain · 20/02/2022 18:32

Our living room and bedroom face east, lots of windows, flippin' cold.
Currently, the garage is the warmest room...It houses my crisp, chocolate and beer collection 🤫 and the cats whiskas 😻

DH has said he's going to sleep on the sofa, which means I can't be an insomniac and watch documentaries on My5 with 🍫 tonight 🤬

bugger.

whydoesitalwayshappentome · 20/02/2022 20:06

Two of my favourite words are in action today after the week from hell! Annual leave. Woohoo

NoWordForFluffy · 20/02/2022 20:15

Whoop! Enjoy, Why!

It's sounding hideous outside now, and the storm isn't even at its peak, worryingly. Shock

The school run will be interesting for DH tomorrow!

pussycatunpickingcrossesagain · 20/02/2022 20:23

why happy happy happy. Wine
fluffy our schools only finished on friday. Good luck to your DH anchoring them down on the school run. Grin Peaks here between 6-9am.

NoWordForFluffy · 20/02/2022 20:25

We had last week off, so back to it tomorrow. Assuming the head doesn't say home learning for tomorrow.

WreckTangled · 20/02/2022 20:47

Annual leave for me too! And half term. Although schools had to close Friday due to the weather. Crazy.

70isaLimitNotaTarget · 20/02/2022 21:08

Enjoy the A/L Wreck and why

I have some leave in March , I don't need to worry about school holidays now as mine are adults ,
Still pretty lairy outside right now so might be more damage to fences/trees overnight .

Magrat hello and Welcome to the Christmas Countdown.
I haven't thought (too much) about Christmas 2022 but whittling through the list in my head of what worked nicely last year and what I won;t bother with this year .
On the "Don;t Bother List" is ££ Chocolate advent calenders for DS and DD . I bought the Cadbury house ones -they were about £9 and TBH they were unmitigated shite . I'll just go with a £3 one next year .
I've bought the Lindt ones for DD before , I think DS isn't bothered either way .
I still have the Christmas Pudding in the pantry now I think of it Xmas Grin

I was looking for some paper straws and found some nice Hallowe'en Ones (my 2nd Favourite time of year after Christmas )
We start using them straight after DH Birthday in October .

TheWoollybacksWife · 20/02/2022 21:28

We dissected Christmas just after new year 70. As far as the DDs are concerned Christmas was just about perfect - DS wouldn't have objected if we bought him more presents 😂

I probably shouldn't make a Christmas cake for us next year. I only make small ones but I ended up eating our entire cake (a slice a day for two weeks) so my waistline would thank me.

Hope everyone on annual leave has a nice relaxing time. DS is back to school tomorrow - assuming the trains are running anyway.

Fuck me, it's windy. Thank god our house faces S to N, so we're protected from the worst of it, as it's from the west. It changes to WNW soon though, which might feel a bit worse.

I'm amazed the headteacher hasn't stuck any message on Dojo yet. Usually he'd have been on to remind us we're back today...I do think home schooling would be safer than getting 480 kids to school in 60mph+ winds. But what do I know?!

WreckTangled · 21/02/2022 08:33

Morning. Windy here too but not as bad as where you are I don't think. 55mph gusts. Dh has gone to work. I know people who still don't have power or have lost it again.

Does anyone know if the yoghurts/frubes that were in my fridge will be ok? The milk is fine still so I'm guessing they will be? We actually haven't had to throw much out even the free mince I got last week was still frozen. The pigs in blankets were defrosted though so I got rid of those. Everything else was veggie food, vegetables and bread items so I think they'll be fine too? Will throw out the ice creams I think I read you can't eat thawed and refrozen ice cream.

pussycatunpickingcrossesagain · 21/02/2022 08:52

Wreck don't eat the ice cream. I googled it - "There is a high risk of bacterial growth and foodborne illnesses such as listeria. The ice cream will also become grainy and lose its creamy texture."

Windy here too...DH hardly slept, I think he's just waiting for the roof to fly off. 🤷‍♀️🤦‍♀️

CrazyBaubles · 21/02/2022 10:01

Morning. Weather sounds awful!
We made it to the Highlands yesterday but it was touch and go - there was heavy rain which meant one route was flooded and unusable then around 45 mins away from our destination is started snowing really heavily. It also snowed when I took ddog out for his last wee of the night - it felt very Christmassy

Glad your power is back on Wreck. I would Chuck ice cream but keep yogurts / cheese. Maybe open one yogurt now and if it looks and smells ok then you know they're fine, but I would look to use them up sooner rather than later.

We have a chilled out day planned, with 2 local sights to see but that's plenty given the amount of driving we've done over the last 2 days 🥱

Morning!

It's so peaceful without the wind...I'd forgotten how quiet it could be! It's raining this morning, but I'll take that!

Your trip sounds lovely, Crazy.

Wreck, good news that you can salvage so much from your freezer.

I didn't exercise yesterday as I was too tired from being woken. I was back to it today though.

WreckTangled · 22/02/2022 07:48

Morning. I've just got to uni. Roadworks have gone so I'm really early. It's very foggy here too.

NoWordForFluffy · 22/02/2022 22:42

Wow. I just ordered two gift cards from a NZ toy shop and less than 25 minutes later they've been dispatched! That's what you call service! Hopefully they'll arrive well before the birthdays of my nieces next month.

TheWoollybacksWife · 23/02/2022 09:23

Morning all. Calmer and quieter here today.

NoWordForFluffy · 23/02/2022 11:25

Our wind is picking up again. Hurrah! And it's gone ominously dark too. 🙄

pussycatunpickingcrossesagain · 23/02/2022 13:05

it was lovely earlier. I sent DH outside with a bucket of hot bleachy water to clean the garage door he had rubber gloves, no husbands have been harmed 😹
It's bloomin' cold out there now though, and going darker. Just topped up the bird table and chucked some sultanas on the lawn...the blackbirds are fighting already🤷‍♀️

whydoesitalwayshappentome · 23/02/2022 13:11

It feels like the wind is picking up again here and it has clouded over.

Glad your husband survived unscathed puss 🤣
