Do you think he'll be working or enjoying Xmas turkey?
I can't imagine his Xmas will be very relaxing!

Just read in the DM he is getting a Knighthood! I am very pleased for him.

RancidOldHag · 26/12/2021 08:14

I really wish they wouldn't leak the New Years honours this early - when did it stop being NYE ?

BigSandyBalls2015 · 26/12/2021 08:28

He’ll be mortified to be receiving a knighthood … not his style at all.

NashvilleQueen · 26/12/2021 08:52

Agree he might be embarrassed about a knighthood but he's too polite to say no. He will probably dedicate it to the NHS.

For those (very few) on this thread who have spouted ignorant nonsense about him seriously do one. The man has devoted his life's work to medicine (not just covid but all of his work on Ebola) and has more integrity in his little finger than any politician. He's not in it for power or money.

LemonLymanDotCom · 26/12/2021 08:59

I used to work with him, and although I couldn’t attest to what he was doing for Christmas Day, I can attest to the fact he was a very lovely, professional & hardworking man. When the pandemic came along and I saw he was the man in charge (albeit under the horrendous Boris Johnson) I did breathe a little sigh of relief!!

'What would Chris Whitty do' has become a favourite household mantra.

I find it a little sad that he, JVT et al stand out so much - it appears that there are so few really decent, honest people in authority. We really need to stop putting 'characters' in positions of authority and choose leaders with intelligence, integrity and decency instead.

Crowdfundingforcake · 26/12/2021 09:16

And I hope, if he was working, he got his fair share of the Quality Street.

PartyPrawnRingGames · 26/12/2021 10:22

When they actually give a gong to the right person for once.

UnmentionedElephantDildo · 31/12/2021 22:33

Just has a pop up saying he's been knighted in the New Years Honours

Happy New Year, Sir Chris!

the80sweregreat · 31/12/2021 23:04

Arise , Sir Chris Whitty !

ArnoldBee · 31/12/2021 23:08

Only just seen this. He literally told us at one of the press conferences that he would be spending it with his family unless he was called up to support the NHS like many in his profession.

AnneShirleysNewDress · 31/12/2021 23:15

Well deserved, Sir Chris!

Wizzbangfizz · 31/12/2021 23:25

I hope he is hanging his head in shame for saying "we don't know much about omicron but what we do know is bad" when that wasn't true and it put the fear of god into people needlessly.

Pebbledashery · 31/12/2021 23:29

So well deserved.

TerraNovaTwo · 01/01/2022 01:07

you're British, you will understand his panic. If you're an international, you think will think he's mediocre. And vice versa - if you have lived away from this island you will think he's a ficking wussy. If you're British you will think 'fuck foreigners'. Typical

Lockdownbear · 01/01/2022 08:12

He's got his knighthood along with Van-Tam.
Congratulations Sir Chris Witty 👏

He's been gleefully terrifying people for 2 years.

Being fair what did he say wrong? They didn't know the severity of it at that point just that it was spreading really really quickly.

They know it takes a couple of weeks for the infections to turn into hospital cases and a couple of weeks beyond that for the deaths to hit.
But lucky for us it turns out to be less severe and the vaccine has worked.

the80sweregreat · 01/01/2022 10:53

That's unfair, he was being cautious I think as they didn't know much about it back then. He said they had to look at he data etc.
It worked though as many stayed indoors over Christmas and new year.
He deserves his knighthood.

MaryAndHerNet · 01/01/2022 11:42

Witty was right to be cautious. The daily.case figures and positives and the hospitalisations etc. They're all going up.
190k positives a day and approaching 1000 daily hospital admittances. Worst it's been since January 2020 and it's getting worse.

Just go away for once will you, you're really quite pathetic.

So pleased to hear the news about Professor Whitty, wonderful and well deserved news!

batmanladybird · 01/01/2022 13:47

@sarah13xx

Aww bless I can’t imagine him not wearing a suit. Just imagine him in a Christmas jumper 🥺 He’s way too pure to be associated with the government
This.
megletthesecond · 01/01/2022 13:55

Poor bloke has to put up with thickies accosting and criticising him. He well and truly deserves a knighthood.
