Do you think he'll be working or enjoying Xmas turkey?
I can't imagine his Xmas will be very relaxing!

Yes, pretty sure I read that he always works over Christmas so colleagues with young children can have some time off. I have a huge amount of respect for him.

Redshoeblueshoe · 24/12/2021 23:06

He reminds me of my favourite uncle. I hope he has a lovely Christmas 🌲

RJnomore1 · 24/12/2021 23:07

He doesn’t have the ego required to be a politician

That is most certainly not an insult btw

Thunderpunt · 24/12/2021 23:13

DS reckons he'll be doing The Queens Speech

Scautish · 24/12/2021 23:16

He’s a wonderful individual and thank goodness has been there to help steer us away from insane far-right “just let the weakest die” policies. The man is a total legend and I hope he gets some rest.

I hope he’s working on his blinking, in his get the booster advert he does not blink

Skinnytailedsquirrel · 24/12/2021 23:36

He's a very decent man. I know someone that worked with him some years ago. He's honest and that's all we need to know.

BurnedToast · 24/12/2021 23:36

What a lovely man he is. I hope he has some time off.

Dodgyveneers · 24/12/2021 23:42

@Electricelf

Always has to be one unpleasant person.
More than one, including the tragic few attempting to be funny. Crashing bores.
foxgoosefinch · 24/12/2021 23:42

I mentioned this on the last thread, but I bumped into a friend of mine last year when it all kicked off and she said a friend of hers was dating him. I think she used female pronouns, not completely sure but that was definitely my impression! No idea more than that.

Haven’t see my friend recently and she’s had a family bereavement so I can’t exactly drop her a message and ask further…. “Sorry for your loss…by the way who is your friend who’s dating Chris Whitty again?” —Sadly I think not 🤦‍♀️.

SpookyScarySkeletons · 24/12/2021 23:47

Oh no now I'm really sad that he doesn't have immediate family. I would have invited him round here!!

tunnocksreturns2019 · 24/12/2021 23:47

I really hope he gets some time to rest his brilliant brain.

forcedfun · 24/12/2021 23:50

He's a total legend. I hope he gets a relaxing and peaceful break.

Yubaba · 25/12/2021 00:03

I love professor Whitty, I hope he’s having a quiet day restful Christmas but I imagine he’ll be working.
The man is a national treasure, he has a medical degree, a law degree and an MBA!

onlychildhamster · 25/12/2021 00:07

I know he lives in a little flat in central london. A lot of people often say that the rules were made for people with detached houses and huge gardens but thats really not true for him...

StrawberrySquash · 25/12/2021 00:15

He's having a family Christmas get together, just one relative hasn't been invited....Auntie Vaxxer

No! Auntie Vaxxer is the one doing the jabs!

HunterGatherer · 25/12/2021 00:57

I'm so glad up started this thread OP and actually thought of starting similar one earlier.
He is absolutely a national treasure.
I feel so sorry for him having to work with the likes of Hancock and Boris.
I do hope his contribution is recognised in the New Years honours list.

TulipsGarden · 25/12/2021 01:03

I love how much everyone loves Chris Whitty Grin We are so lucky to have had him to counter the worst of the Tories. He is the antithesis of Boris Johnson.

Gingernaut · 25/12/2021 01:04

He's probably drunk, with his head in his hands, despairing at the stupidity of the British public.

I wouldn't blame him

Hawkins001 · 25/12/2021 01:10

In a lab, going over medical reports and current measures and situational experiments.

Furries · 25/12/2021 01:16

I’d like to think that he gets one day off at least.

In reality, I picture that he will have a sumptuous brunch and will then head off to some ward rounds. I don’t think his “being” would be able to chill whilst knowing that thousands of colleagues are working their socks off. I then imagine him finally arriving home, pouring a glass of good red wine, chatting to those who are at his house, and having a faithful cat curl up on his lap (or dog settle at his feet).

For those saying (not nastily, from what I could see) re his salary. I’m sure, compared to lots on here, it could see, like a lot (I have no idea what it is). Personally, I don’t think any amount of money could pay me to do his job. He is balancing a very fine line re having to deal with bloody politicians for a start. There are many jobs - and I’m not talking about movie stars or footballers - that will pay many times what his salary is. As far as I’m concerned, he more than earns whatever he is paid.

I know it obviously won’t change things a huge amount, but I also like to think of little legacies being passed on here and there - as everything I’ve seen re people who do/have worked with him seems to have an impact. There is nothing wrong in life re being a quiet bit impactful influence.

Merry Christmas Mr Whitty!

BeachHutBackUp · 25/12/2021 01:25

I run a summer art festival, in Prof Whitty’s family’s part of the world. I was beyond thrilled when he turned up (very discretely, as you’d expect) at one of our venues last year.
So I can confirm, he does know how to have ‘fun’ 😄
