Despite starting thinking about Christmas in August(!) this year, I'm still running behind on most things. So I thought I'd start a thread of what people have left to do maybe to act as a prompt for me to actually do these things!

On my list:

  1. Buy write and send cards
  2. Sort nursery / school / cleaner gifts
  3. Finish wrapping
  4. Buy something for a family friend I feel obliged to but is difficult to buy for so I put it off every year
  5. Tidy the whole house - or at least start hiding stuff in cupboards
  6. Meal plan and finalise online shop
  7. Food bank

... and finish stuff off at work!

I'm sure there is more stuff!

Anyone else feel like they are running out of time?

  1. Distribute the last of the presents to people I won't see closer to Christmas
  2. Finalise Christmas week food shop
  3. Deep clean of whole downstairs / bathrooms before Christmas Day
  4. Bath the dogs Grin
TheWoollybacksWife · 15/12/2021 14:39

Marzipan and ice three small Christmas cakes.
Deliver one of the above to a friend.
Collect Tesco shop on Saturday.
Collect butcher's order on Thursday.
Wrap 3 lots of stocking gifts
Finish knitting a cardigan for my great nephew (should be done by the weekend)

Not much at all although I'm procrastinating about the cakes.

maddy68 · 15/12/2021 15:01

All of it. Not bought a thing yet or put up my tree 😂

Yellow85 · 15/12/2021 15:14
  1. Wrap
  2. Finish Christmas food shop online basket
  3. Finish my Xmas Baileys

*not in that order

CuteOrangeElephant · 15/12/2021 15:24
  1. Write Christmas cards
  2. Wrap a couple of presents

Other than that everything is already bought or ordered to be delivered.

Everything Confused

Ifeellikedancing · 15/12/2021 16:00

Wrap DPs and mums gifts
Buy and wrap some shortbread for my gran
Make a pavlova

I am very organised this year for once!

Squirrelblanket · 15/12/2021 16:49

The big Christmas shop next week.

I've got one present to wrap when it arrives. It's currently delayed.

lazylinguist · 15/12/2021 17:04

Write and send Christmas cards (I don't send many).
Buy a couple of presents.
Wrap all presents.
Plan food for hosting over NY.

We are staying with PIL from 24th to 27th so don't need to worry about food etc for actual Christmas. Dh and I both finish work for Christmas on Friday lunch time so we have a fair bit of time to get stuff done.

InvincibleInvisibility · 15/12/2021 17:18

Wrap 5 presents.

Send DH to do all the food shop.

Clean home as normal (with DH)

Plantsandpuddlesuits · 15/12/2021 17:34

We keep Christmas very simple.

I've still got all the wrapping to do.

Need to finalise Christmas online shop delivery (coming 23rd) although we have most things in already.

On 23rd I need to go to the butcher's, bakers (and possibly a candlestick maker 😂) to pick up our orders.

Basically by 3pm on the 23rd if it's not done by then it's not getting done! Getting ready for christingle service at 4pm on 23rd so that's when I want to be done by and relax into Christmas

Plantsandpuddlesuits · 15/12/2021 17:35

Oh I forgot I've got to make sausage rolls on Christmas Eve to take to a family buffet.

Pegasussnail · 15/12/2021 19:10

I have to buy a bottle of gin to finish a present.
Write a couple of cards.
Big grocery shop.
Have ordered shoes for the kids so hopefully they fit or I'll have to face the actual shops Grin

PennyPinkPineapple · 15/12/2021 19:23

Everything, but not much.

I'm streamlining this year. Only DH, 8mo DD, DM, DF and MIL to buy for. I didn't send any cards because I can't be arsed. No tree or decorations except one set of fairy lights on the mantle piece (we are right in the middle of a house renovation and you can't polish a turd!)

We are hosting DM, DF and MIL so I need to do a serious food and drink shop this weekend and clean the only presentable room in the house. I can't remember why I thought this was a good idea...

Lovemusic33 · 15/12/2021 19:27

Deliver presents
Pick up Turkey (23rd)
Buy fruit and veg (next week sometime)
Make mince pies
Big house clean (tomorrow before kids break up Friday)

That’s about it.

IgneousRock · 15/12/2021 19:30

Presents are bought but not wrapped.
Need to write cards.
Food shopping and cooking.

Sn0tnose · 15/12/2021 22:38

I’ve got 4 bin bags of presents to wrap
I’ve got six wine glasses, two gin glasses and two tumblers to engrave
I’ve got a personalised bauble to make and send to the other end of the country for friend’s nephew
I’ve got three Christmas sacks to personalise for new additions to the family
I’ve got to do a present drop for my friend’s little boy (was hoping to see him open it but they have Covid)
I’ve got to do a Christmas food shop for my DM and deliver her Christmas cards for her
I’ve got to write a dozen or so cards from us
I’ve got to collect the emergency turkey and find room in the jam packed freezer
I’ve got to pick up DM’s medication (and mine) and sort out a rota with DB and SiL for who’ll be doing what while we’re with in laws
Start gathering together everything we’re taking with us to in laws

And I can’t be bothered to do any of it. I don’t even want to think about actual work.

DH will do all the running around, some of the wrapping (he’s already done all his) and the bits for my DM, but it’s mostly stuff that he either can’t do or gifts for him, so he can’t wrap his own presents.

WrappedInRed · 15/12/2021 22:51
  • Finish wrapping kids presents
  • finalise and collect the big food shop (I keep forgetting stuff!)
  • pick up turkey and any last bits on 23rd
  • Clean the house from top to bottom!
ThankYouVeryMuchGerry · 16/12/2021 17:34

My to do list:
Finish wrapping
Big Christmas clean & change to festive bedding, towels and tableware.
Beautifying appointments, hair, nails, waxing, eyebrows.
Do final shop for last minute food bits missed from next weeks deliveries.
Prepare and serve Christmas Eve buffet for the family.

However, we are away for the weekend this weekend so have to squeeze everything in to next week!

Mermaid67 · 16/12/2021 20:06

@BangingOn

I need to:
  • write the last few cards for neighbours and people we are seeing
  • 90% of the wrapping
  • make and fill crackers
  • write a packing list for everything we need for 5 days away
  • post work Secret Santa

then, next Thursday

  • pack and load the car. This will not be fun.
I never give cards to people I see, it seems pointless to me, I wish them a happy Christmas myself instead.
AdoraBell · 16/12/2021 20:28

Need to wrap presents. Just ordered a lipgloss for DD2. Still need to get a card for DH and tomorrow I’ll it a replacement tub of Quality Street.

Helpstopthepain · 16/12/2021 20:30

Send cards
Tidy house
Buy food
Finish bastard stag head that I thought would make a great centrepiece.
